On Stemmons Freeway, a Cement Truck Teaches a Sedan Who's Boss

Categories: Transportation

It's never a good idea to cut off a humongous cement truck on the freeway. Not so much because karma may bite you in the ass at some vague point in the future as that it could be piloted by a driver who has no qualms about crushing the back end of your car.

Take what happened recently on Stemmons just outside of downtown, a scene captured on video. YouTube user jtocs sets the scene:

This lady cut off a cement truck and I watched him rear end her. When I noticed that neither vehicle came to a stop after the accident I started to record...

The truck is registered to Carrollton's THB Construction. The woman who answered the phone there didn't seem to be familiar with the video but told us to call back in an hour or so to talk to the office manager, Misty. She might know something.

Correction: We've been informed that the vehicle in the video is technically a concrete truck. Cement is an ingredient of concrete and is transported as a dry powder in non-mixing trucks. Just to set the record straight.

Send your story tips to the author, Eric Nicholson.

Apparently tied together - truck has left turn flasher on (if the guy with the cell phone will let them get over...) they'll probably stop.

1 idiot driver recording 2 other idiot drivers.  Yes this is your daily commute in Dallas

It's a CONCRETE truck.

CEMENT is a kiln-fired, fine gray powder mixed with gravel, sand and water to make concrete.

Sorry, it's small pet peeve of mine.

Hmm.

The meth the truck driver is on must be pretty good if he didn't even notice the Toyota in his grill.

Looks like they are wedged together, so one can't stop without the other anyway.

Looks like there will be a job opening Monday for someone with a CDL.

It looks like taking a video and driving is as dangerous as texting and driving!

@pak152 Then for heaven's sakes, why do you hang around here, pak?

I've never understood those that whine about a publication's accuracy and viewpoint and yet continue to read it. There's so much else out there that they could be reading. You'r like the little old lady in the restaurant complaining about the terrible food -- and the portions are so small!

Is there a rational explanation for this?

@ScottsMerkin

Cost savings. The trees are much cheaper if they're dead.

The city does that all the time. 12 years ago all the new trees died on the new bridges over 75. It's what Dallas do.

@James080 Would your last name happen to start with an R? Because I remember being informed of the difference around a Possum Kingdom campfire a few years ago by a James!

@everlastingphelps

A bucket of cold water might do the trick.

What are you talking about? She cut him off and there was probably no damage to the CEMENT TRUCK. But then of course, being the Right Wing asshole that you are you would probably fire him.

@bmarvel @pak152 Hi Bill, while it may be annoying to you, sometimes the mistakes people call out here grab the attention of Joe, who comes here to issue corrections, and sometimes even attributes the correction to the commenter.  IF everyone just shut the fuck up and read, there would be a fuck ton of misinformation just left uncorrected here and at the DMN and Dmag and any other local pub.  You know, sometimes the reader happens to know more about the subject being written than the author, and that's ok, We know you can't handle that fact but its true.

@bmarvel oh com'on bill dont' you complain about stuff? actually the DO is pretty good, but inaccuracy does pop up.

besides I just like to see your comments pop up complaining about me. ;-)
hope you're having a pleasant Sunday. now back to yardwork

No, that wasn't me.  But it was likely someone else in the construction business.

@tdkisok

Believe it or not, it's illegal to ram people who cut you off. Strange but true!

@tdkisok @TheRuddSki so you cool with him driving along still attached to her trunk, rather than getting her lic plate number and calling the cops?

@Chattering_Monkey

"sometimes the reader happens to know more about the subject being written than the author,"
and when they do present information contrary to the story they can be attacked by other commenters as a shill.

@pak152 @bmarvel If you find an entirely "accurate" publication, let me know, pak.

@James080 @JSSS  if you are the driver of a CONCRETE truck, I will call it whatever you want me to call it.

So are you cool with not knowing the circumstances? Looks like they were slowing down to me.

pak152

@bmarvel bill you've been the industry long enough that each publication puts out what they think is "accurate" information. which is why I read a wide variety of publications from the left and the right. whether it is the NYTimes, WashPost, the DMN, Washtimes, LATimes or the DO i try to read them all

have a good evening. always enjoy our "conversations"

Seems the video taker gave us the circumstances. Car cuts off truck, truck hits car. Neither stop or pull over inn video

@pak152 @bmarvel Pak -- I remember the lengths to be accurate the publications I worked for went to.  And I remember the hell somebody had to pay when we got something wrong.  As we inevitably did.

pak152
pak152

@bmarvel unfortunately that is not happening today. too many misspellings, key facts left out, opinion presented as fact and more.
