Ted Nugent, Greg Abbott's New Campaign Pal, Has a Thing for Underage Girls

Categories: Politics

Later this morning, gubernatorial hopeful Greg Abbott will stumping at a Tex-Mex joint in Denton. At his side: rocker/conservative troll Ted Nugent.

For a candidate aiming to be taken seriously, Nugent, who has called President Obama a "subhuman mongrel" and "piece of shit" who should "suck on my machine gun," seems an odd choice of campaign surrogate.

Doubly so when you consider that Abbott is very consciously trying to beat back the narrative that the Texas GOP is waging a war on women, and that Nugent has called various female political figures a "brain-dead soulless idiot," "varmints," "fat pigs," "dirty whores" and a "worthless bitch."

Abbott's camp is taking the line that, Yeah, but guns.

"Ted Nugent is a forceful advocate for individual liberty and constitutional rights - especially the 2nd Amendment rights cherished by Texans," Abbott spokesman Matt Hirsch told The Dallas Morning News.

"While he may sometimes say things or use language that Greg Abbott would not endorse or agree with, we appreciate the support of everyone who supports protecting our Constitution."

Still, one wonders if the Abbott camp would have been so keen to pal around with Nugent had they watched VH1's 1998 "Behind the Music" documentary on the Motor City Madman.

"I was addicted to girls," he says in the documentary, admitting to multiple affairs with underage girls. "It was hopeless. It was beautiful."

But don't worry. Their parents were on board with it.

"I got the stamp of approval of their parents," Nugent said on the video. "I guess they figured better Ted Nugent than some drug-infested punk in high school."

Contrast that with Abbott's boasts about taking the fight to child predators. The left-leaning Lone Star Project did just that in a pretty effective video montage they released yesterday:

Best to lock up your daughters now, Denton.

Send your story tips to the author, Eric Nicholson.

It's really horrible Ted Nugent committed Bill Clinton(D) like crimes...  of course, Bill committed perjury, sexual harassment, a few women targeted claimed rape, and he bombed a few countries to postpone hearings and Congressional Impeachment proceedings...  but Bill was only the President and so he can't be held to the same standard as a 70's rocker who didn't actually break the law.

Woody Guthrie was an apologist for a genocidal slave state. Elvis Presley groomed a minor and sucked up to right-wing Nixon. Bill Clinton was a feminist's example of the the predatory devil incarnate. Many showmen/musicians have expressed over-the-top opinions about presidents in the past, like Nugent does towards Obama.

So what makes him extra-special?

The Motor City Madman likes to portray himself as anti-drug but he cover of the first Amboy Dukes album has a wide array of pipes not used for tobacco. Perhaps he could also post the parental stamps of approval from his underage gals on his website for independent verification? Theodore seems to be overcompensating in all areas of his existence. Surely you wouldn't begrudge him a canned hunt of primates to make him feel better about himself?

Ted Nugent - We know all about Nugent as he is one of the racists of the old KKK. Nugent is like others who openly flaunt their bigotry. What is so interesting is the calls for Lynyrd Skydyrd and other hard rockers to play the Ballad of Curtis Lowe and the Confederate flags start flying. Yes today's audiences flying the Confederate flag. Racism has another another way to show itself. Ted Nugent is another example. Racism is still prevalent in portions of the nation and can be seen daily. Anyone who openly displays the Confederate flag is a racist. That flag represent bigotry, oppression, prejudice and slavery to black people. The confederate flag represents hatred of those who do not have white skin or look different or have a different sir-name. The confederate flag represents a deep-seeded resentment towards another because of his/her religion or faith. The confederate flag represents an attitude which has been taught by parents, peers, partners, preachers or priests. The confederate flag represents a throw-back to pre-1960's times when the n-word was used regularly and blacks were called "boy." Ted Nugent and his type reveal their KKK-type attitude towards many in America and sadly he has a following. The confederate flag represents the KKK and the times when a black would be lynched for any reason! TEA party rally's have the Confederate flag openly displayed!

Does the Dallas Observer have an editor on board any longer or has it just become a free-for-all writers blog? Please proof your damn copy for a verb before taking it to the street:

"Greg Abbott will stumping at a Tex-Mex joint..."

Please!!

As for Greg Abbott: Hooking up with nut-case Nugent just shows just how desperate and scared (and hypocritical) the Texas political "boys club" has gotten to defeat the "Abortion Barbie" threat that Wendy Davis' candidacy has become for them.

Trotting out 15 year old recycled stories is never, ever going to get Wendy Davis elected.  She is donezo.  Pack it in.  Put the water down. Move on.

All failings are forgiven if your support will get us what we want now.  A view not unique to either political party.

Nugent told the Detroit Free Press in 1990 that he meticulously planned to get out of the war. He stopped bathing 30 days before going before the draft board and later ate nothing but junk food and Pepsi. A few days before his appointment, Nugent started defecating in his pants. It obviously worked — and it's a good thing, because "if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes. I would have killed everybody." ---Meagan Morris

What was Abbott thinking? Since when did conservative start holding draft dodging, racist, pedos with fake hunting shows in such high regard?

Whether you're a liberal or conservative I think you have to seriously question Abbot's judgment in sharing a stage with Ted Nugent.

On the other hand, I don't know of a single politician in either party who hasn't suspended their moral compass when it comes to pandering to special interest voters or begging for campaign funding.

I can't imagine what "under age" means if not under the age of legal consent - i.e. a minor, and if I recall, an adult having sex with a minor is statutory rape, regardless of the parent's consent or even the minor's consent.  And what does Nuge have to say for himself?  "It was beautiful"  So basically Abbott is campaigning with an unrepentant, armed child rapist. YAY TEAM REPUBLICAN!!!!

@ruddski  You appear to defend Nugent by exaggerating the behavior of others. Guthrie flirted with communism. Presley may have groomed his future wife  but, by all accounts, did not consummate the relationship until she was an adult. Bill Clinton had sex outside his marriage with consenting adults. This is fairly ordinary behavior and does not make him the "devil incarnate."  Many celebrities have expressed "over the top opinions" of presidents, but I can't think of any besides Nugent who have made thinly veiled death threats. Nugent is "extra special" because he was a true sexual predator, as well as a pedophile, and because he can't seem to stop making grossly inappropriate remarks about political figures. Any politician who embraces Nugent, either literally or figuratively, is a fool.

Are there any racists under your bed or in your closet? Maybe in your school locker or under the stairs?

And to make matters even more chicken-shit, Abbott then throws Nugent under the bus to distance himself after he's through using him as a Repuglican human shield. "Ted Talks"...then under the bus he goes!

while for the most part agreeing with the point you are making, I do feel the need to point out one politician that does not fit the mold, someone that I do not always agree with but respect for the very reason he doesn't "suspend his moral compass"

Ron Paul.

nancyhallatr

@ruddski  Arlo Guthrie was famously deferred by the draft board because he had a prior arrest for littering. He wrote a song about it.

Clinton had a student deferment just like every other male college student of the era. Later, when they decided to drop the student deferment for graduate students, he called in favors to delay the draft and enable him to attend Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. By the time he was classified 1A, the draft was ending. He took part in the draft lottery, but his number was in the group that was never called up. His only questionable move was to agree to join ROTC and then renege when he realized he probably wouldn't be drafted anyway.

Neither man was ever "Canada-bound."

@mavdog @James080  Ron Paul gave the keynote address for the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the notoriously racist John Birch Society. This took place in 2008, so it isn't ancient history. Ron Paul also has some rather sketchy ties with neo-Nazi Don Black. He may not have suspended his moral compass, but he's let it lead him into some strange waters.

"willfully ignorant of them" and hence he is a "racist"? good grief.

I am not a Ron Paul supporter, but at the same time I am going to question anyone labeling a person a "racist" unless there is evidence.

Is Paul responsible for the writings in the newletter in question? yes. his name was on the newletter.

Do those writings, if not penned by Paul, allow for people to refer to Paul himself as a "racist"? not until they are shown to be his beliefs.

In this case it is not appropriate to use guilt by association.

bmarvel
bmarvel topcommenter

@mavdog @bifftannen "and you can establish that those writings were penned by Ron Paul?"

Doesn't matter, mavdog. Penned them, tacitly encouraged them, approved them, wilfully ignorant of them --all the same thing.

to claim that a person has "written" items that are "racist" is a very serious charge in my book. don't see asking that the proof be shown as going too far. or asking too much.

It's the same thing as a man listening to the weird rants by a radical racialist preacher for twenty years while presumably nodding amens. It really doesn't mean anything if the man's heart is pure.

@mavdog @bifftannen  I don't have a dog in this particular hunt, but feel compelled to point out that you're over-parsing, that one need not "establish that those writings were penned by Ron Paul" so long as one reads those writings under his name. Can't finesse the "depends on what you mean" when it's his name on the thing I'm reading.
