On Saturday night, SMU's men's basketball team beat a Top 10 opponent for the first time in 27 years, and it wasn't even close. The Mustangs jumped to a 14-point halftime lead over Cincinnati and never looked back, ultimately winning by 21.

It was the team's biggest statement yet, proof that its 19-5 record and its two previous victories over ranked teams weren't a fluke, that "Moody Madness" has indeed been reborn, that ESPN Dallas' Jean-Jacques Taylor hopped on the Larry Brown bandwagon just in time.

But in case you needed additional confirmation that SMU basketball has indeed been resurrected, it came this morning, with the Ponies coming it at No. 23 on The Associated Press Top 25 men's basketball poll.

The last time they cracked the list, it was the 1984-85 season and the team was led by 7-foot center and soon-to-be NBA draft bust Jon Koncak.

My SMU-alum dad is stoked.

Is that with or without the kid from DISD whose transcripts were changed so he could meet the NCAA minimum requirement for a scholarship?

Congratulations!  But keep in mind SMU has an RPI ranking of 40.

and students were actually camping out for tickets last night and this morning.  Good to have SMU basketball mean something.  Let's hope Larry Brown is just the start and not the beginning and the end when he leaves.  Poor TCU on the other hand cant win a conference game to save their lives

@NewsDog  SMU had nothing to do with that, if it even happened.

@NewsDog

Probably without him and a couple of their other star players if that photo showing last year's team at last year's Moody is any indication.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz  Actually its 38. at least they've beat 3 ranked teams and their Kenpom is 22.  Dont get me wrong, I thnk they make the tourney and win 1 but that is an awesome season considering where SMU has been for 2 decades

And a gold medal winner.

That game reminds me of my high school days at Rockhurst.
