Dallas Driver Avenges Himself on Longhorn Wrecker by Plowing into a Tow Truck Door

Categories: Crime

Longhorn Wrecker has a very long list of of enemies. That's only natural in an industry predicated on holding people's vehicles hostage for exorbitant fees, especially when you do business the way that Longhorn does business.

Put another way, it will be no easy task to identify the man who avenged himself on a tow truck by nearly knocking its driver's side door off.

It happened around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday at the Landmark on the Valley Apartments in Far North Dallas. According to a police report, a Longhorn Wrecker driver's door was swung open so he could speak with someone in the parking lot.

A car started to drive past, but it stopped. A couple of seconds later, the driver gunned it and plowed into the open door before driving away. The tow-truck driver was uninjured, but the door sustained an estimated $1,500 in damage.

Police reviewed footage from the tow truck, which was equipped with video cameras showing the incident from multiple angles, but the only information they gleaned according to the police report was that the suspect was a Hispanic man driving a late-model (2012) black Ford.

Clearly, though, the guy was pissed.

P.S. I did find the driver. Working with his insurance now.

Wow. This is the driver of the tow truck that was hit that night. I'm still wondering how that info found its way here.

Tow Truck Driver is lucky only his door was damaged and that he didn't get shot. They are in a nasty business.

Does the driver of the car need help getting repairs done? I'm in!

I hope no-one cheering this action expresses anger or dismay when, not if, a tow truck driver or anyone else has to shoot someone while legally performing his job.

This is just too funny! It could not happen to a more deserving company of low-lifes.

ruddski

And if the driver was killed or injured, perhaps leaving fatherless children, would the sentiments expressed so far be the same?

What if the driver was a minority, or transgender, and the assailant a Christian Republican?

Ok, so I'm being humorless, so shoot me!

(That was a joke, usual suspects who know who they are).

Incidentally, does this article not constitute a "troll"?

AWWW POUR POUR Longhorn. The only mistake I see in this article is Eirc should have put it under the heading of Justice not Crime.

Just remember, the towing company is not responsible for damage to your vehicle.

Was "Vete y chinga a tu madre" heard as this guy drove away?

@ruddski  what about when he isnt legally performing his job?  Can I shoot him for trying to steal my property?  Seriously, a tow driver once tried to tow my car but he had the wrong vehicle bc mine looked just like the car he was looking for.

So lawlessness and assault resulting in property damage, which might have gravely injured a man in the process of doing his job is ok.

But you're against people legally carrying a weapon to defend themselves.

Are you a supporter of "nation of laws", or do you support ignoring laws which are inconvenient to your prejudices or agenda - which in this case is revenge against a class you apparently despise.

If the latter, then that explains your blasé, if not downright hostile attitude towards our American Constitution, and support for totalitarianism.

In that same vein, do you support desecration of bodies of enemies by our military in a time of war? Do you likewise support the desecration by the enemy?

Or do you just like to have things both ways, whichever supports your emotionalism?

@ruddski too many ifs

The apparent history of this towing company is predatory. Alleged copied signatures on impound forms, alleged law breaking during impound, and alleged impound of the wrong vehicle.

As an Apartment Maintenance supervisor, I was at each impound on my site(s)

and no, to your base question, the article is not a troll.

@ScottsMerkin @ruddski  I think the perp has to be inside your castle before you can shoot him.  So to use the "Stand Your Ground" defense, you'd have to have the vehicle parked inside your house. Maybe a garage qualifies, not sure. Maybe better to shoot out his tires to prevent him from leaving and then, when he draws in self-defense, shoot him in self-defense.

ruddski

I'm not sure, ScottsMerkin how the law concerning protecting your moveable property in Texas would be applied in that case.

I think you'd be charged, because the assumption would be mistake, not theft, because it's a marked tow vehicle, and by witnessing the theft you could recover the property by other means, making violent force unnecessary. Also, at the time, how could you be absolutely sure the car was being towed for the reason assumed?

Good question, I wonder if there's any case law?

It kinda ties in with wrong-address no-knock raids.

But Myrna, you've clearly stated something that lead to my question, now you're upset that I'm, according to you, reacting in the proper manner - judging by your own standards.

Can you take the question seriously, are you capable of playing the game by your own rules?

When towing companies respect property of others they will in turn deserve respect of their property. Just because something is legal doesn't mean the corruption and graft behind the laws making it so aren't evil and wrong.

@ScottsMerkin  If you are in your car and are being attacked. You don't have to retreat before using deadly force.

@GatoCat @ScottsMerkin@ruddski   Actually there have been a few instances here in Texas. The best one I can remember happened in Houston.  A tow company was hired by a bank to repo a car. The car owner woke up as the tow truck was hooking up. Car owner grabbed a gun and ran outside to see his car being towed down the street. Car owner opened fire, hit the tow driver who crashed and later died. The decision was competing legal interests. Both parties were acting in a legal manor at the time. The car owner wasn't charged because he reasonably thought his car was being stolen.

That was the criminal side, the civil suit got interesting.

@myrna

You wouldn't feel sorry for me if a meteor flattened my house, c'mon.

What you're saying is "I can't answer the question because no matter how I answer, I'll look like an idiot".

But, hope you don't inadvertently cut this hothead off in traffic. Since no-one ratted him out, he's free to exact his version of Justice on the next innocent who pisses him off.

(And no-one is gonna buy the play-with-my-pussy cop-out, get serious)

@ruddski  Actually, I'm beginning to feel quite sorry for you.  Besides, the cats will be up soon for their daily crazy gamboling and frolicking about the house, after which we'll gather round the telly for Big Cat Diary.  So I'm outta here.

I hate them as much as the next guy, I just believe in the rule of law, and that anyone nuts enough to act out like this hero might act out similarly in other circumstances - like if your dear sweet mum inadvertently pisses him off in traffic.

I don't approve of road rage, simply because I hate having to shoot nutters. Ammo ain't cheap, amigo.

Does it occur that if this guy happens to have a bad attitude towards something you respect and want protected, that perhaps he might act in the same way?

Do you want someone with that level of anger and revenge driving next to you on Stemmons?

Care to try and answer the question?

Pretend it's one that would appear on a test for a police force applicant.
