The Backlash Against Wendy Davis Is Getting Pretty Vile

WendyDavisAbandonChildren.jpg
@FE517
The Dallas Morning News' Wayne Slater may have suggested that Wendy Davis owes her success to her ex-husband, but he did so subtly and in the context of an article that outlines small but significant discrepancies in the rags-to-riches autobiography she's been peddling on the campaign trail.

The Internet and certain conservative media outlets, on the other hand, have no use for context or subtlety.

Here's Rush Limbaugh saying she's willing to abandon the truth in her quest for "higher orifice."

And state Representative Bill Zedler's expert legal opinion that Davis may have perjured herself:

And RedState.com's Erick Erickson's accurate but completely disingenuous claim that her ex-husband asked a judge to order her not to use drugs around her kids.

And here's Twitter taking its gloves off:

Accuracy? Honesty?!

The Republicans who lied about WMDs spilled rivers of innocent blood.

Republicans aren't afraid if this hot little mama. If they were, they'd launch lawsuit after bogus lawsuit she'd be forced to defend, like real worried little dirtbags do.

My hope is that she will have a one on one with Hillary Clinton who give her some insight on how to handle this BS.  It is just getting started........But Progressives need to somehow alert the bookers at National media outlets that Wayne Slater is not a voice IN ANY WAY for Democrats.   He simply uses less hateful words in his description of Dems BUT will never question the BS spewing from a Republican.

A woman's place is not necessarily in the home, and we don't know why the Davis marriage ended in divorce, but her career, like many modern women, did not allow her as much time to spend with the children as her husband.  She paid child support after the divorce, as I believe the noncustodial parent must do.

I've always heard that a mother has to be a total hot mess for Texas Family Courts to grant custody to the father.

Myrna.Minkoff-Katz

Bottom line:  Some judge, for some reason, awarded custody to the Father/Step-father for reasons we don't know.  Wendy carried both children, went into labor, then years later paid child support after the judge's ruling.  One could hardly say she abandoned them.  Republicans are scared... really scared.

@kergo1spaceship- I will the last republicans from texas had sacrificed their own family instead of a few thousand American heroes over the lies about non-existent WMDs in Iraq.

@The_triplefake_Brandon_Eley

Not necessarily, if the two spouses go to the judge and state that they have agreed that one spouse will have custody, then the judge will approve that  agreement.  If the two spouses cannot agree on custody, then the mud starts flying and the judge makes the custodial decision based upon the evidence presented.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Maybe because the children had lived with their father for years while their mother was in Boston? Maybe because Wendy agreed it was in the children's best interest not to disrupt their domestic stability?

She didn't abandon them, but she did prioritize professional ambition before them -- arguably in their long-term best interest. It ain't no crime, it's not even that unusual for Type A power-suit types, and yes, the Republicans are desperate, vicious pricks, but that doesn't mean we should be disingenuous here.

And just out of curiosity -- why do you seem to find it unjust that she should have to pay child support if she's the non-custodial parent?

Methinks your misandry is showing.

@bvckvs@pak152wow! i guess we can call her Saint Wendy then based upon your assessment of the TRO. having gone through a divorce there are times when the big guns have to be pulled out eg a TRO or a show cause order to get a response from the other side. I suspect that is what the TRO was designed to do, get her to show up in court and respond.

as for the UN are you comfortable with the UN coming in to monitor our elections?

@ruddski  No way in hell are they worried about her becoming Governor, but she has star quality like no other pol in Texas, and that rankles them -- plus she made her bones defending abortion rights, which is one subject (out of several) that really gets them foaming at the mouth.

She never was going to beat what's-his-face. But she represents the future of politics in Texas -- the kind of people they'll soon be fighting to the bitter, bloody end in every election, and that day ain't long a-comin' -- and for that, they loathe her.

So yes, on some level they fear her, while still recognizing she's no real threat at the moment. Face it, a politician exaggerating her hardscrabble origins is about as scandalous as an actor getting a facelift.
