Tony Romo Just Had Back Surgery, Will Miss Sunday's Game Against the Eagles

All week, ever since he re-injured a herniated disk in his back against the Redskins, Cowboys fans have waited for final word on whether Tony Romo will play in Sunday's season-deciding matchup with Philadelphia.

Now we know.

Despite some brief glimmers of hope -- vague pronouncements from Jerry Jones, a boilerplate vote of confidence from Jason Witten, reports that Romo's back was improving -- and top-notch obfuscation by Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, Romo is officially out.

ESPN Dallas reports that Romo underwent surgery this morning to repair the herniated disk in his back and will sit out.

"He'll start his road to recovery, sooner rather than later," Garrett said. "We're completely confident he will rehab and come back at 100 percent."

That puts the Cowboys' season in the hands of backup Kyle Orton, who we can only hope has the wherewithal to pass on the Jack Daniel's this weekend.

I don't think the Eagles coaches cared who was at QB but would have preferred a banged up Romo. IT's OK, Orton will be ready for a stretcher by the end of the first half. I'm hard pressed to see what part of the Cowpukes team is better than the Iggles at this point. Maybe the medical staff, but that's it.

Iggles rule, Cowpukes drool!

Stop by at gametime Sunday night at Vernon's in Addison, I'll be wearing the McNabb jersey and giving a demo of a real Philly sports fan.

...and Orton is exactly one two wins away from having as many playoff victories with the Cowboys as Romo.

Dallas loses - Jerry claims moral victory - After SuperBowl, Fires coaching staff but makes Rod Marinelli Headcoach - Drafts a Wide Receiver with 2014 first round pick -  WHEEEEEEE

So, who was sucked in by all the dodging and ducking by the old drunk?  Or did he really want to risk Romo being paralyzed?  You do not mess around with a herniated disc; it should never have even been a question.

And  the haters are out in force.  I would seriously like someone to tell me who they want to QB Dallas that is better than Romo and actually attainable.

Now if we could just put the entire Jones family on Injured Reserve, the Boys might have a chance....

@kfries1 Even if the Eagles win, Philadelphia is still Philadelphia and no amount of sport myopia will change that.

@kfries stop by at Cowboys Stadium if you want to see what a Super Bowl trophy looks like.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Your intuition is correct, there never was a question.  It was a ham-handed attempt to keep the Eagles guessing as to which QB would start, as if anyone might believe that Jerruh would risk his $108 million dollar man.

@ScottsMerkinAJ McCarron.  Draft him, and by the end of 2014 he will be more reliable than Romo.

@ScottsMerkin We are a game away from the playoffs and have one of the worst defenses in the history of the NFL.  Which quarterbacks would make this team a legitimate contender while the defense gives up more than 400 yards and 27 points a game?

@James080 Technically, it would be the Non-Football Injury (NFI) category, as the mental impairment and lack of vision were not caused by on-field concussions.

@Sotiredofitall@kfries1And Dallas is still Dallas. What's your point other than proving that the DISD does a horrid job of education?

@ChrisYuNo thanks, Jerky probably wants money to park there and I'm not putting a cent into his pockets given the piss poor product offered.

@texbat77@kfries1 I'm a Philly fan. I boo everyone, especially overhyped douchebuckets like the Cowturds. Truth be told, players like Witten and Ware would be welcomed in Philly. Loudmouth chokers and crybabies aren't. Dez wouldn't last a season in Philly.

Jerky Jones blows but the Cowpukes blow enough to overwhelm the pressure.

@ColonelAngus@Myrna.Minkoff-KatzThe 108 million is probably insured so if he wanted to get rid of Romo, getting him hurt with a career-ender is a quick way of dumping him. I think that also takes most of the hit off the salary cap too but I'm no expert. Truth be told, Romo is a pretty good quarterback considering the organization he plays for.

@joe.tone Jerry would pick the one bust from those choices.  Lets us all not forget Romo is a Parcells boy
