Dallas Cowboys fans should know better by now. Whatever cheerful confidence is inspired by an impressive quarter or two of play is destined to be crushed, swiftly and without mercy. So, the team's late-game collapse Sunday afternoon to an Aaron Rodgers-less Green Bay Packers squad was less shocking than it should have been.

The first half went amazingly well, with the Cowboys jumping to a 26-3 halftime lead. The offense was balanced and efficient, the defense stout. Twitter was impressed:

But also wary:

As the second half ticked away and the tide turned in the Packers favor despite overwhelming odds,

the Twitterverse was left with a dilemma: Should it blame the Cowboys' porous defense, which gave up five straight second-half touchdowns to Packers backup QB Matt Flynn, for the loss? Or was it the fault of Tony Romo, who threw two picks in the clutch?

Here's the argument for the D, which was back to its normal, Care Bears self:

Or was it like a frail old person?

This one gets points for the "Breaking Bad" reference, loses them for making fun of disabled people:

The one about the Cowboys releasing Jerry Jones is absolutely, deliciously, funny. It rates 5 stars in anyone's universe!

Well, the stadium is in Wendy Davis' district....

The only reason the Cowboys fail is because the other team didn't root for them.

Seriously, has any QB in NFL history thrown more interceptions in the 4th quarter than Romo??

I think not!!! I cannot believe that Jones would not get rid of this loser.

What's new about Tony Romo and the Cowgirlz collapsing in December?

Time to cut some losers, like Jerry Jones, and move on.

Just wondering when former cowguy Irivin is gonna get canned from ESPN for his remarks about RG3....

Stop buying tickets.  Then that rich drunk will have to pay attention to the fans.

@ruddski

Irvin "is gonna get canned from ESPN" for voicing his opinion of what went into the decision to bench griffin? uh, interesting theory, until one remembers the broadcast wasn't on ESPN...

that's what he's paid to do, be opinionated. Irvin does it well.

Y'all will suck cowboy toes win or lose, he knows that.

My mistake, forgot he moved. Maybe the NFL network isn't as reactionary. But Michael Wilbon is still at ESPN...

Both absolutely brilliant, but the charge of racism against Shanahan, when the reasons for benching are painfully obvious, is almost as over the top as Limbaugh's transgression way back when.

Maybe they were channelling JWP.

@ruddski

it is very revealing that you keep using the word "racism" and "racist".

Irvin never said those words.Wilbon was adamant in saying those don't apply.

what is your motive in twisting this into a story about racism?

So, suggesting a black man was treated differently than a white man because of color isn't a charge of racism? O.....k then!

The reason I cited Wilborn was because he agreed with Irvin. You are Correct that he, like Irvin, is black.

However, these two are the only broadcasters that have made the charge that RG was treated unfairly because of race, AFAIK. If you can find a white guy that made the same charge, let me know and I'll come down on him for the same reason.

@ruddski

Interesting that you reference Wilbon, he and Kornheiser discussed the Irvin comments on PTI. Why you would interject Wilbon is a good question...oh yeah, he's black!

Wilbon made the comment that goes to exactly what Irvin was actually saying- it isn't a charge of "racism" by irvin. Irvin wasn't accusing Shanahan of being racist. Never said anything about Shanahan's views on an individual's race. Irvin's comment is that Griffin is being dealt with differently than other QBs, specifically how Indy treated Luck.

Now it comes out that Shanahan's son, the OC at Washington, voiced that he disagreed with his dad and believes Griffin should play.

You can attempt to bring the charge of "racism" into the discussion but you appear to be the only one doing such....
