A Texas state trooper was arrested in Cleburne Tuesday night after allegedly buying 6 grams of methamphetamine.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, 47-year-old Jimmy Jay Gillman, an officer in the Texas Department of Public Safety's commercial vehicle enforcement unit, was picked up just after 9 p.m. in front of his Cleburne home.

Police -- some with Johnston County's "Stop the Offender Program Special Crimes Unit," some with the Burleson Police Department, some with the Texas Rangers -- were watching him there after receiving a tip about Gillman's alleged drug use.

Inside the home, officers found more drugs and drug paraphernalia. Gillman's girlfriend, a 53-year-old Arlington resident, was taken into custody but was later released.

Gillman was charged with possession of a controlled substance. A justice of the peace set his bond at $100,000.

Jim is a good guy. He took off-duty work guarding my community. He never acted like a person on meth - ever.

This could go a long way toward explaining all those "excessive force" videos on YouTube.

GET OUT OF THE CAR! RIGHT NOW!

Jimmy Jay's brother, meanwhile, a Mr. Jimmy John, is still making incredible pizza.

Every meth-head I've known didn't stop till they used every grain.   If they had 6 grams,  it was party time till it was gone.   (perspective,  28 or so grams to the ounce,  he didn't have all that much)

And,  shouldn't have been difficult to spot him,   meth seems to make you rearrange your life,  stop showing up,  leaving early,  tons of energy/no energy at all,  etc.  Last time I had to deal with it,  employee got into 'ice',   apparently for the first time,  over a weekend.  Didn't show up for a week,  called then to say he was in the hospital,   had lost 20 or so pounds,  eyes were lipstick red.

Tragedy is,  and it is a tragedy,   the man's life is now over.  Regardless of his job,  that's a tragedy.

Ya know, I've been thinking about the number of officials being busted for drugs lately, and extrapolating for the entire population, it explains a lot.

Besides, the only way to be able to live in this hellhole is with a buzz on.

What kind of idiot trooper can't figure out how to score free meth, or whatever else, without getting caught in a drug house?

@mcdallas

I think you're thinking of Poppa John.

Jimmy John's are the sandwich delivery guys that have it in for Myrna.

@halldecker

How many meth heads have you known?

6 grams is a pretty sizable amount, by my reckoning - nearly a 1/4 oz. of speed will keep 2 folks buzzing for quite some time.

@halldecker Valuable insight, and no snark -- hunh.

Although the first stories don't report his tenure, at his age, he must have been well on his way to retirement, adding detail to the tragedy. He obviously picked up the habit while on the DPS payroll. I wonder if it was some sort of middle-aged crazy? I wonder if the released girlfriend had anything to do with introducing him? Still, no matter how boring the middle-aged ennui or how hot the woman (six years older, too), for a veteran LEO to go that route -- helluva drug, indeed.

My Old Sainted Mama,  on her death bed,  made me promise I'd never get into a pissin' contest with anybody who claims they know more meth heads than I do."

@wcvemail @halldecker Thanks for the comment.   I didn't post the rest of "John's" story.   He told me his new friends had shot him up.  He knew nothing about needles,  syringes,  cotton balls,  etc,  could have never injected himself.   A couple months later I took him to my Dr.    HIV positive.   I read a book ages ago,   IT'S SO GOOD,  DON'T EVEN TRY IT ONCE.

You almost certainly got it right,  Sugar Mama was the catalyst for it.  Most likely reason she got cut loose,   she set him up to work off her own dope cases,  or set him up for future favors.  And,  Crimestoppers,  somebody like that,  would likely pay handsomely for a veteran DPS officer's head.

What a fucking tragedy!
