Oncor: 240,000 Power Outages in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area Due to Winter Storm Cleon

Frozen (but operational) lines near Lake Cliff Park.
Nearly a quarter million homes and businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are without electricity as a winter storm encases North Texas in ice.

Some 2,500 Oncor Electric Delivery linemen and contractors are currently working to restore power. "We've been prepping for this all week," Oncor spokesperson Jeamy Molina tells Unfair Park. "We've been in communication with utilities across Texas and the country, and they started arriving yesterday and will continue throughout today."

So far, the outages appear to be caused largely by falling, ice-laden tree limbs that are knocking out lines. Molina is asking Oncor customers for patience.

"Safety is our number-one priority for our customers and our employees," she says."The roads are treacherous so it's taking longer for crews to navigate them. But we work 16-hour shifts, through the day and night."

Oncor doesn't have an estimate for when power will be restored. With freezing rain continuing to fall, outages may continue to mount. Even melting ice could cause outages. Molina says.

"The storm is still kind of passing through. We're trying to assess everything we can."

We lost power at the very beginning of the storm for about four hours (some trees must've fallen on our underground power lines). What was moderately impressive to me was that the repair estimate the automated line gave me about ten minutes after the outage started was right on the nose (the power came on two minutes before they said it would).

How do I find out what my neighborhoods estimated time is of when the power will be back?

Cleon and Oncor must get a kickback from the plumber's association (Krampus?).  Power has been off since 5am in my neighborhood with 16 degree temps expected  tonight.  I hope I can find the water turn off valve.

@BigBlakMtnMan 1996??!   I doubt the infrastructure has been much updated since the really big ice storm of the early '80's.

@kayo @rubberduky exactly, they will need to make up for all the overtime and equipment they lost.  Expect Oncor to be at the PUC office monday morning asking for a rate hike on our delivery charges if they are not there today
