George W. Bush Painted a Christmas Ornament, and It's Delightful

Behold, the George W. Bush Presidential Center 2013 Christmas Ornament, the perfect way to fill that bare spot on your Christmas tree and the only holiday decoration, probably ever, to be painted by a former leader of the free world.

Dubya first painted the cardinal as a gift for former U.N. Ambassador Warren Tichenor, but it was immediately apparent that the work was so masterful that it just wouldn't do to only have it on some diplomat's wall, shielded from public view.

"Laura liked the bright red on the cardinal and the greens of the foliage and, uh, chose my painting, for which I'm grateful, to become a Christmas card and ornament," Bush says in a video greeting. "I'm flattered."

He'll be even more flattered if you buy one. They're on sale through the presidential center's gift shop for the low, low price of $29.98.

And how can one resist, what with Bush's rock-solid confidence in his artistic ability: "I hope my painting meets expectations."

Take it away, George and Laura:

Personally I like how he has turned away from politics as "I have a life.  I don't need to keep trying to keep my numbers up."  It is the Cincinnatus model that used to be the rule in this country.  Now we have politicians that still think they have something to contribute and make sure we know every time they do it.  Apart from ideology, he is the anti-President Clinton.  If President Clinton had to stay away from politics for a year or even 6 months, I wonder what he would do with his time.

If only he'd decided on a career as an artist and not politics...then again, Poppy and Mother would have probably nixed that.

I wanna Peuwk! (spelling altered to allow  the artist to understand feeling) What about the loss of hundred's of small businesses, thousands of employee'd  citizens, including the families ruined, and the ensuing organizations of crime waving as he gutted Texas like a fish?

I like that he's getting art therapy.

I know he expected the Clinton treatment - being invited to parties and paid to speak at fund-raisers and such, but he's going to have to settle for quietly reflecting on what he's done, alone.

Definitely much prettier than Obamacare, the closing of Guantanamo, or bringing the troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq.

@rusknative

If this ornament is any indication of what would happen, his dad will then refuse the gift and GW will end up trying to sell it on eBay.

@MikeWestEast

To paint alone at home isn't really to "have a life".  It's what junkies, felons and mentally ill people do when they're going through therapy to figure out how they ruined the life they had.

Republican ex-presidents actually retire. And after liberating 50,000,000 people, he's got a lot to reflect on. What will Barack reflect on?

@dhoson Rembrandt, Michaelangelo, that red-headed guy with the happy trees, lots of people paint.  What idiotic point are you trying to make?

@Oxtail   Yes, but he left all his paint and brushes behind for someone else to clean up.

@bvckvs @MikeWestEast

And you achieve life fulfillment by forming non-informed opinions of others' personal activities. Give yourself a great big pat on the back there, pal.

@dingo

Perhaps you should follow Bush's lead and deal with your issues through art therapy. It's gotta be better than going around the web, looking for comment-posters to throw tantrums at.
