Barack Obama, Rick Perry Butt Heads During President's Whirlwind Trip to Dallas

President Obama, speaking Wednesday evening at Dallas' Temple Emanu-El
President Barack Obama was on the ground in Dallas for all of four hours on Wednesday. It would have been closer to five, but his departure from D.C. was delayed by an hour after bomb-sniffing dog reacted to what turned out to be anti-freeze in a vehicle parked near the White House.

From Love Field, where Air Force One arrived just before 5 p.m., the presidential motorcade made its way to Temple Emanu-El, where he was greeted by a few dozen protesters calling for Obama's impeachment over Benghazi and Obamacare, among other offenses.

Inside the temple, as announced, he defended the law and its rollout:

I just want all of you to remember, as challenging as this may seem sometimes, as frustrating as healthcare.gov may be sometimes, we are going to get this done. When we do, you're going to have families all across this great state of Texas who are going to have the security and the well-being of high-quality, affordable health insurance, and that's going to be good for business.

See also: Barack Obama Will Visit Dallas' Temple Emanu-El Wednesday to Praise Obamacare Volunteers

Encouraged the navigators who are helping some of the million or so Dallas-area residents who are uninsured sign up for Obamacare:

I know that sometimes this task is especially challenging here in the great Lone Star State...[but] this looks like a pretty motivated group... I'm going to be right there with you the entire way

And took some not-so-veiled shots at Governor Rick Perry, pointing out that Arkansas' decision to expand Medicaid dropped the state's rate of uninsured residents by 14 percent:

All of you understand that there's no state that actually needs this more than Texas. ...Your neighboring states have made that decision [to expand Medicaid], because they look at it and say, 'This is a no brainer, why would we not want to take advantage of this?' There's no reason why this state can't do the same.

Perry had his rebuttal ready.

See also: Yeah, But It's Not Like President Obama's Gonna Be in Dallas Too Terribly Long Today

"President Obama deceived the American people by promising that anyone who liked their health care plan could keep it, but millions of Americans are now discovering that simply isn't true," he said. "Now, he's coming to Texas in a desperate attempt to salvage his ill-conceived and unpopular program from a Titanic fate by preaching expansion of the same Medicaid system he himself admits is broken."

From the Temple, Obama made a couple of whirlwind fundraising stops, the first a
$15,000-per-person reception at Bluffview home of attorney Peter Kraus, the second a $32,400 dinner at the Highland Park manse of attorney Russell Budd. By 9 p.m., Obama was back on Air Force One and headed back to D.C.

Karen Mitchell, a worker at Planet Smoothie across from Temple Emanu-El, must have been crushed.

"I've just made a Merry Berry Cherry," Mitchell told WFAA in the lead-up to Obama's arrival. "We're all hoping he comes in for a smoothie today."

Alas, he did not.

One of the reasons Hillarycare collapsed back in 1994 was its proposal to regulate the number, kind, and location of medical specialities throughout the entire country. When people realized that Hillarycare meant that they might not be able to choose their doctor or specialist, public support for Hillarycare  initially very strong, collapsed. This was the reason Obama felt it necessary to offer the promise that we could keep our insurance and doctors if we liked them.  But it was never going to work out this way, as Obama’s technocrats knew early on. Even when you begin only by targeting the uninsured, socialized medicine requires “indefinite expansion in every direction until it includes the entire population.”

So he knowingly lied in order to get the thing passed.

The Noble Lie.

Darth Obama in best James Earl Jones baritone: "open the blast doors" . . . "loosen my plan"

Darth Obama 10 minutes later in falsetto: "CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS . . . CLOSE THE GODDAMN BLAST DOORS . . . . N-O-O-O-o-o -o-ooooooooooooo"

Probably the biggest faceplant of landmark legislation four years in the making ever performed by an inept administration.

and the hits just keep on comin'.

You fools put your hands on everyones' healthcare and that's worse than sending us overseas to fight a war.  Now it really IS personal. And that might have been okay had you not toasted the insured, caused the wagon riders to actually fill out forms on the internet instead of just showing up at Parkland, and (most fatally) you friggin morons tried to make 40 million invincibles (the young) pay like they are middle aged to pay for the retiring Yuppies who caused the need for Obamacare in the FIRST place (they robbed the SS lockbox).

If it were just the website roll-out, maybe it could have been fixed but this is fatal.

Why did you think you could just pass a law that autocratically ORDERS all 330 MILLION people to line up and sign up, or ultimately face hard men with guns if they don't?

for our own good, of course.

Seriously.  What friggin' utopian planet did you come from?

jeez.

no matter the fate of the aca which I figure will make most of these idiots happy once they figure with their Texas education that it's a good thing,. in a year Perry will be in the dust heap of history and Obama will still be President

Both Obama and Perry are only interested in protecting their truf.  Nothing has been solved and we're still going broke.

ACA increases concentration in the insurance and medical markets. It forces consumers to buy into oligopolistic and monopolistic marketplaces. Insurance and medical companies stocks have all gone up since Obamacare passed. (They've gone up twice as much as the S&P this year.) What these companies are all telling us is that the act is good for their business and good for their margins.

The law is complex, badly written, and will be gamed. See "The Coming Clash over Insurers’ Compliance with Obamacare" from the Independent Institute and "HHS Releases Final Medical Loss Ratio Regulations" in the WSJ.

@holmantx

Which reminds me of an age-old marketing joke that goes something like this: JB, a big company CEO decides to launch a new miracle dog food. He calls in his marketing director.

“Johnson! I want this new dog food in every newspaper in America! Get me the most expensive PR company you can find!”

“Right away, JB.”

“And I want ads on every billboard and TV station in the country. Hire me the best advertising agency on Madison Avenue!”

“Right away, JB.”

“And I want every office worker in America talking dog food around the water cooler — get the Leno and Letterman people on the phone!”

“Sure thing, JB.”

“Oh and find us the hottest celebrity spokesperson out there, tell them money is no object!”

“Absolutely, JB.”

Two months later, sales are flat. Huge inventories of dog food are piling up cross the country and the company is going broke. The enraged CEO calls the marketing director back into his office.

“Johnson!!!”

“Yes, JB?”

“This is a disaster!! Did you hire that PR firm like I told you?!”

“Yes, JB.”

“And what about the ad agency, did they do that Superbowl spot?!”

“Won an award for it, JB.”

“And Letterman and Leno? Did they do the jokes?!”

“Every night for the last two months, JB.”

“And Lady Gaga, she’s talking dog food, dog food, dog food around the clock?!”

“Sure is, JB.”

“Then I don’t understand it! We’ve done everything! We’ve been in newspapers! We’ve been on TV! We’ve shouted about this new dog food from every blasted hilltop!! What the hell is going wrong????!!!!”

The exhausted Johnson drops his armloads of reports and charts, sits down on the desk and sighs.

“It’s the darn dogs, JB. They just won’t eat it.”

@ynotryme How can bad unadministratable legislation that helps further bankrupt the country be a good thing?

"In the United States, one of the most protuberant and harmful political myths — one shared by subscribers to almost all political persuasions — is the odd, naive idea that big business and big government are permanent antagonists. As a historical and empirical matter, of course, nothing could be further from the truth, a reality thrown into sharp relief by the political machinations underlying Obamacare. The new law is fundamentally anti-competitive and anti-small business, riddled with onerous regulations and handouts to favored corporations. As usual, the relationship between big business and big government is not one of rivalry, but of symbiosis, routing genuine free markets in favor of collusion."

A message posted for military personnel on a carrier which had accomplished its mission, which was to partcipate in the overthrow of the Baathist regime of Iraq. Many who opposed the overthrow distorted the meaning of thr banner and gave it their own meaning, which in addition to being a lie, managed to shit all over the people who had accomplished their mission. And to this day, they are proud of their lie, as Myrna demonstrates.

Hey dumbass.  It's not insurance if no one can be excluded.  It is an entitlement.

Just like the last three the Congress blew up.  We now owe 100 trillion on those three so the Left cooked up another entitlement to stave off the consequences of draining the last ones dry.

Petulant is a good word for the guy.

Ben Nelson (D) took the Cornhusker Kickback in return for the 60th vote which unilaterally delivered Obamacare.  The largest piece of landmark legislation to ever pass without a single Republican vote.  The Left captured one-fifth of the economy.

Obama rescinded the kickback after passage.

Nelson had no chance of being re-elected so now he's a lobbyist in D.C.

Well, the dog caught the bus on this one.

@markzero

Then you go to the county hospital for free.  Why sign up and be charged $3,000?  Understand what I'm saying? Not even the indigent are going to put with this crap.

There's some new information in a just-finished study by the pro-reform Kaiser Family Foundation, which estimates that 17 million people who are currently uninsured or who buy insurance on the individual market will be eligible for Obamacare's subsidies next year. That's a lot of people. But then Kaiser adds: "We also estimate that about 29 million people nationally could look to new marketplaces as a place to purchase coverage."

So, of 29 million people who might enter the Obamacare exchanges, about 17 million would be eligible for subsidies. That's about 59 percent who would be eligible for taxpayer-paid assistance, versus 41 percent who are not. That's a majority on the subsidy side, but not a huge one. Then figure that some of those who are eligible for help will only be eligible for very small subsidies. For example, a family of four in St. Louis, Mo., with one parent who earns $48,000 and another who earns $37,000 would be eligible for a subsidy -- all of $13 per year to pay for an $8,088 policy -- that is virtually no help at all. (The numbers come from the Kaiser Foundation's online subsidy calculator.)

Out of the 59 percent who are eligible for subsidies, then, some portion will receive subsidies that do not cover the increased cost of their new coverage. For them, Obamacare will be a net loss. So, it's unlikely Obamacare will actually help the full 59 percent of those eligible for subsidies by Kaiser's estimate. The bottom line is, Obamacare could very well hurt substantially more than 41 percent of the people who are currently uninsured or purchase coverage on the individual market. That's not exactly making the system work "better for everybody."

And since the Yuppies are capped at three times as much what the youth are now MANDATED tro pay, the youth must bear the real burden (which they won't.  They are just starting out and every ducket counts).

Bottom line - this boneheaded law is DOA.

markzero

@holmantx @Willie reminder: in Texas and in other states that don't expand Medicaid, many poor people don't get subsidies to sign up. And in every state, people are exempt from signing up if they make too little to have to fill out a tax return.

Go to an online ACA calculator and pretend you're a single 40 year old male who hasn't worked in over a year so has no income, and no kids. You're eligible to sign up, but the cost is estimated at over $3K.

I wonder how many people in that situation will actually be able to afford that "entitlement," at least among those who couldn't afford to self-ensure previously.

Sotiredofitall

@ynotryme  I read your links; nice try.

Manhattan Institute released a report that shows that insurance premiums are going up an average of 41% in 49 states, although there are seven "blue" states where the costs go down. New York sees a drop of 40%. The analysis of the HHS numbers shows Obamacare will increase underlying insurance rates for younger men by an average of 97 to 99 percent, and for younger women by an average of 55 to 62 percent.

ACA takes the worst elements of public and private and fails to provide universal coverage for millions of people.
