A Mesquite Man Is Very Sorry for "Terminating" His Pit Bull with a Shovel

Earlier in the week, 59-year-old Robert Prichard learned he would be staying in jail for the time being. A Dallas County judge upped his bail to $50,000 on a felony animal cruelty charge and sent him back to Lew Sterrett.

The upside for Prichard is that he now has more time to reflect upon his actions, which, according to police, involved beating his female pit bull to death with a shovel for chewing on some patio cushions on August 30.

KRLD brings us the results of more than a month soul-searching.

"I regret terminating that dog," he tells reporter L.P. Phillips. "I should have just leashed it inside its doghouse and waited for my next check."

Much of the interview is less of an apology than an explanation of why he killed his dog. The pit's behavior had degenerated. She had ruined his yard and was constantly biting him and the family cat.

She was biting him as he tried to put a leash on August 30 and "in the process I made a mistake," he said.

This is a marked change from August 30, when, still covered in blood, he told police that he'd thrown the dying dog into the pool to "cool her off."

he should have made a gift of the dog and sent him to Obama in the White House.

what kind of shovel was it?  was this an Obama "shovel ready" job?

Clearly a remorseless human being if he even considered the word "terminate" when discussing what he did.

Dont like Pit Bulls either but this guy is worse! What a waste of a person! If he could do this with an animal - he is capable of the same with a neighbor that crosses him! Hopefully, he will learn something playing "house " in the slammer!

I would guess that only in Texas, the home of Ted Cruz and other small penis rednecks like to boast and support animal torture cause it makes them fell tough and not like the pantie waste they truly are.  That is what you get when you live in a state filled with children born of incestuous brothers and sisters.

I'm thinking that if the dog bit him, it must have not been too much of a bite, because when a pit bull really bites, it does not give you the strength to hit it with a shovel over and over.   If your dog is that aggressive call animal control and have them euthanize the dog in a humane manner.  I had a pit bull mix for over thirteen years, it lived with a cat, another dog, and in it's last years of life, a baby.  It bit no one, of course my dog was socialized and not abused.   Had it started behaving aggressively, it would have no longer been in the home.  I do not understand why this man felt his only course of action was to bludgeon the dog to death.

Pit bull owners seem a bit different, one way or another.

PRICKard probably got the dog for protection and nothing more. He obviously had no feelings for the dog.

This man is sick and I hope he gets the book thrown at him for this although true justice would only be served if someone took a shovel to his head.

@harleykarmadad I would suggest you learn to write at a high school level before you presume to lecture us peons.

"I do not understand why this man felt his only course of action was to bludgeon the dog to death."

He didn't. He knew the dog was the easiest and less jail time way of getting off on his rage. They need to check his kids for bruises and healed broken bones that were never treated by medical personal.

@jrichey2

You are right. Real men protect their families by killing the dog with a shovel, in front of their family and neighbors. Cause, you know, its sending a message.

@jrichey2 How about if the dog was getting increasingly aggressive, why not call animal control who would have put the dog in a shelter, evaluated if the dog was fit for adoption, and then humanely euthanize the dog if found too dangerous.

@Daniel @harleykarmadad If people who abuse people are what you are calling peons, then I am talking over their head.  And if you are suggesting that people who abuse animals deserve some sort of respect, then that is another conversation.

@tdkisok @siditty He only went after the DOG because his WIFE was busy at the time getting him another Budweiser and heating up his Tacos.

I hope he doesn't have small children at 59 years old.

Some minor corrections to your earlier post:
"cause" should be "because"

"fell tough" should probably be "feel tough", unless you are somehow poorly describing a time when those individuals tripped or otherwise cast themselves to the ground unintentionally.

"pantie" should be "panty" if you are, in fact, referring to the female undergarment.

"waste" should be "waist", and at that should be plural (as in "waists") unless, well, the other is just too gross to discuss.

Posts like that are the reason I need to return to my personal policy of not reading comment threads.  Just too frustrating.
