Healthcare.gov: Anyone Made It in Yet?

Categories: Buzz

Caduceus.svg.png
So Buzz is sitting here trying to get a peek at healthcare.gov, the government website for health care insurance exchanges unveiled today as part of the Affordable Care Act.

Six tries in, and we're still stymied. But that's fine. Universal health care wasn't built in a day, and if you're a progressive living in Texas, you learn to be patient. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius urged everyone to "give us the same slack you give Apple," Slate reported -- which would be a lot more cheering if Apple's new iOS didn't stop playing in the middle of songs ever since we loaded latest version, making us want to pitch our iPhone out a window.

And of course, leave it to conservative, government-health-care-hating Texas to make healthcare.gov's first-day glitches a little more annoying. In the middle of our sixth try to make the site work, an email pops in our in box. It's a press release from the state:

"For the first time in its history, Texas.gov, the official website of the State of Texas, has received twelve industry awards in a single year. This impressive accomplishment demonstrates the State's dedication to providing the best possible online experience for Texas citizens."

Now maybe Buzz is being paranoid, but we can't help but suspect that Texas was being deliberately dickish in releasing that bit of happy news today. Crowing about the state's website awards while a good chunk of the country is making failed efforts to log into the website for the Obama administration's single biggest achievement -- that just sounds like something Governor Rick Perry would plan, doesn't it? Bet he was smirking when he did it.

Anyway, congrats, Texas. You dicks. Now leave us alone while we try again to get into healthcare.gov again ...

... Nope, still no luck. We keep getting stymied by the screen that asks for answers to three security questions, ONLY THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS, just blanks where the questions should be. We want this to work, so we try to imagine the questions and type some answers anyway: 1. 42 (What is the meaning of life?) 2. Unladen (What's the proper way to measure the velocity of a swallow?) 3. Bigger than average. (Never you mind what question we were thinking of there.)

Still nothing. We'll keep trying. How about you commenter guys? Anyone cracked the code yet?

Over the last month, I've tried over 20 times to complete my application. Each time, it makes me reconfirm every detail of each of 6 family members (which it obviously had saved because it presented it to me), then I get error saying  they are experiencing problem, error 500.000999 and to try again in 30 min. During each person's data entry, it shows a screen with proper data, I click "Save and  Continue" and it shows summary screen with all but last 4 digits of ss number. I click "Save and Continue" and it throws up error saying invalid ss number! I have to enteer the whole number again to replace THEIR asterix's, and it will advance, until all personal data is entered and it freezes. Another thing is there a 4 "ghost" listings between my wife and 1st or 4 children. I have to actually advance past these 4 blank areas to get to first child. This website is a joke, a real F-Yo to America.

have had same troubles ...

finally got in to make account ...

But then couldn't log in to an actual page (blank "success" page only)...

Then tried it on a different computer in the house and it worked!

Came back to original computer and still did not work on it...

Tried using the "Incognito" browsing (have been using Chrome) and it worked!

Tried on MS Internet Explorer and it worked...

Tired on regular Chrome and it doesn't work... (Even with "Add Block" turned off)

Finally working through Chrome Incognito Browsing ... BUT!!! ---> It seems to have forgotten that I chose TEXAS as my state and it WON'T let me edit my profile to select TEXAS as my state!!!  (God knows I don't WANT to have to choose Texas as my state, no offense, but I have to choose Texas as my state right now for better or worse).

ALL of these "difficulties" seem rather "targeted" to me... I certainly don't trust Texas ...

I am currently 27 years old.  I had made a sign in name a couple of months back. So I must be good. Right? How wrong I was.  So I go to log in after waiting on line of course and the healthcare . gov  site takes my login but I am at a white page with nothing on it. So I  try again and the site says my login name can not be found! bumper I will try again in 2 weeks.

Day 2. I still can't get in for a while, and when I do, I get the "can't create account" message as indicated in this article.  I tried until late last night, and started about an hour ago this morning. This article said he got a Texas popup message, but I wonder how that can be, if he hadn't set up an account. If he hadn't set up an account yet, the site wouldn't know what state he would be applying in. Hmmmm. I have tried to get in to the site a lot of times but have never gotten a Texas msg, since I didn't get far enough to select a state to apply in.

Remember, if you move out of state, you get to do it all again. Given how much Americans love being forced to buy a product, there will much glee in serftown!

Yep...leave it to Texas to do this kind of crap. But it definitely has the HHSC website completely up and running for people to lie and get their food stamps!

I've been trying ALL day... I did actually create an account, but when I try to login it keeps saying my info is invalid. I wish I at least knew if it was POSSIBLE. Because if I know it's not possible, I won't waste my time trying over and over. But I don't know, and I keep thinking, maybe this time it will work, and I end up wasting my time :(

See?  More proof that Obamacare is a failure.  No one's going to Healthcare.gov because it's too crowded.

I started at 4:30 this morning and made it all the way through Step Two (out of the four) and then was stopped cold.  Can't even log in anymore.  The good news is I have a verified account, the bad news is I can't get to the Marketplace.  Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

can't get in all day. also seeing blank questions. I actually have a profile I created last month and when I go to reset my password it continues to say that I answered one of the questions wrong. I called customer no-service, took 20 minutes to answer my call, I was told that even that was a glitch and I wasn't necessarily answering them wrong. Arrrgghhh!

Apparently if you are in one of the 36 states (yes, Texas is in that list) that have not fully setup their healthcare exchanges, you receive this message when attempting to access the site :

"Health Insurance Marketplace: Please wait

We have a lot of visitors on our site right now and we're working to make your experience here better. Please wait here until we send you to the login page. Thanks for your patience!"

Patience is a virtue, but for doctors, patients are a necessity.

To me... It seems as though this is wildly accepted and popular... How else can you explain a server shut down due to high traffic volume... Yes! It is frustrating, but I am extremely excited about being able to afford quality healthcare out of pocket!

I think the delays are a plot by big pharma so that everyone is going to need blood-pressure medication by the time this gets sorted out.

indie_ana_500

@itsTDL Why don't you want to give it a chance, since it will help millions of uninsured people who need health care? Texas has the highest % of uninsured people in the nation. Why wouldn't you at least see how it goes? It's been in effect since 2010, and so far, it hasn't cost the country any money and has helped a lot of people with pre-existing conditions, people who were kicked off their ins. plans, and others. You DO want to help the country with health care, right? I mean, you're not saying you don't think health ins. is a drain on our economy and that the millions iwthout health care shouldn't have it, right? No, of course not. No reasonable citizen would think that way.

@yeahno Just because you lie to get things doesn't mean most people do. Most people want to work. Most people don't want the humiliation of having to take food stamps.

@raspberryh That just happened to me. Very frustrating. Tried to change password with THEIR procedure. The final step says it can't locate an account for me.

@Anonamouse Medicaid recipients get health care for free (and it's not very good health care, IF you can find someone in your area to take Medicaid patients). All others pay. Some will get subsidies if poor enough. Unlike the subsidies that Exxon and GE got, which were BILLIONS of dollars, and of course, those global corporations aren't poor.  I guess you forgot to blast GE & Exxon in your post for getting what the rest of us pay for.

@ColonelHapablap How is buying health care considered serfdom? You do know serfdom is a wealthy family owning other families in exchange for food and a home, right? Those poor families will fight battles, grow crops, and all the other manual labor for the wealthy family.

That is what Serfdom is. What kind of definition do you have it as???

marpcnm

@TwoShoesDo No it is NOT widely accepted and popular....we are FORCED to buy insurance through this site!

That was a really great reply...yeah...no not really. After a long six years of experience as a case worker actually interviewing and determining whether people like you are eligible for various government assistance programs...I think I can confidently say that yes...most people on benefits do lie and no, most of them do not want to work. But thats texas for you...enabling them further and further by making requirements less and less strict. But whatever. ..I guess it keeps me from becoming unemployed. Oh what did you say? Uhm...yes I do actually work.

@indie_ana_500 @raspberryh Exact same thing here..  I made two accounts just to be sure, and yup, it tells me the login info is invalid, so I try to reset password, get the email, click it and it says I don't have an account.. so I try to create again using my chosen ID and it says it's in use... lawl.

Anonamouse
Anonamouse

@indie_ana_500 @Anonamouse Just because someone else pays for it, it doesn't mean it's free. Taxes - maybe you've heard of them. Those funds taken by force from one group to give to another, more "deserving" group.

Don't think it's forced? Try not paying your taxes and see how many bunnies and unicorns the IRS sends to have a word with you.

@marpcnm @TwoShoesDo Obviously you are one of the millions of Americans that has failed to read how health reform works and instead you believe all of the memes you see on Facebook.

You don't have to get health insurance and you wont be fined for opting out of coverage. Well, unless you make OVER 250k a year. If that is the case you STILL wont have to worry about it because at that kind of salary you ALREADY have insurance.

See, that's what happens when you listen to people that watch Fox news. Now millions of people think they HAVE to sign up for coverage when they really don't.

And if you don't the rest of us tax payers will have to pay for your trifling behind when you get sick..smh I was at the gym 3 months ago and started having heart complications. After an ambulance ride and some surgery thank god I had insurance because the bill was was 50000.There's no way I could have payed that. and if you can, you can also afford insurance. Don't be like a teenager and think you're invisible to illness because you will be sick and broke...today is a good day, even for those who don't know it yet
