Dallas ISD Has Reportedly Fired Cristy Nicole Deweese, its Spanish-Teaching Playboy Model

CristyNicoleDeweese.jpg
Dallas ISD still won't comment on the case of Cristy Nicole Deweese, the 21-year-old teacher whose Playboy-modeling past came to the attention of the Internet last weekend. The evidence, however, suggests that she was fired on October 10.

Piece of evidence No. 1: There is a Facebook page calling for Deweese's reinstatement, created by occasional Playboy model Liz Ashley. On the one hand, it states clearly that Deweese "was fired today from her teaching position for her playboy pictorial published years ago" and urges followers to help a "damsel in distress." On the other, it's Facebook.

Piece of evidence No. 2: She wrote "They fired me!" in a text message to the TV gossip magazine Inside Edition. Pretty solid, but would be more more so had she texted a credible news organization.

Piece of evidence No. 3: She is relaunching her modeling career. In her Model Mayhem profile, she writes, "I've been modeling since I was 12, quit for a while to pursue teaching and now I'm back." She has also joined Twitter, where she thanks Ashley for creating the Facebook page and everyone else for "the support."

"I am unable to make comments at this moment but I'd like you all to know that I appreciate the love!" she writes.

That sounds like the tweet of someone who's found themselves a lawyer, which is not something that people who have willfully separated from their jobs tend to have. But that's just tea-leaf reading. To get confirmation from DISD, we'll have to wait a couple of weeks for them to fulfill our open records request, and even then they may not say who broke up with whom.

So what this firing thing is saying to young kids is be this or that. If you were one way when you were younger you can't change if you do we will fire you???

And being paid to teach children only means that; paid to teach. It doesn't mean that the public owns her, or her personal life. What she does outside of school, and especially prior to working there, is her business. Posing nude has absolutely nothing to do with the cases of misconduct between other teachers and their students, so please refrain from drawing imaginary connections between unrelated things that don't apply to each other, and leave people's personal lives to them.

Can a morals clause in a contract be retroactive? That's really going to come down to the wording and some interpretation by the court.

It's a matter of law.  They tried not to fire her, but the State Board of Education's Code of Ethics expressly forbids this kind of behavior from teachers.  She knew that when she applied for the job, and apparently kept it off of her application - which is also a violation of the Code of Ethics.

Personally, I think she did this so that she could sue the people of Dallas - a suit which will undoubtedly fail... because she violated the Code of Ethics.

Had they kept her on, they would have faced many more suits - which they would have lost - and it would have cost the people of Dallas a small fortune, while setting her up for life.

The reason we have these laws in the first place is because many, many teachers have been behaving as sexual predators and using their classrooms as hunting grounds for their prey.

If you don't like the law, lobby your state representative to change it.  Send a letter or email to their staff, identifying yourself by name and zip code, and telling them that you want teachers to be sexually active with their students.

DISD is a gov't agency, funded by taxpayer dollars.  It is right and good that some of those taxpayers' desires & preferences are expressed in DISD policy.

Cristy Nicole Deweese is not owed a job from the taxpayers who fund Dallas ISD.  If she can not comply with some of DISD's basic employment standards, she needs to find employment elsewhere.

Given that children are roughly 100x more likely to be sexually abused in a public school by a teacher or administrator than by a Roman Catholic priest in a RC church, morals clauses such as those violated by Miss Deweese are indeed a serious matter.

The school board should have promoted her to superintendent and fired Miles.

As long as the idiots will ban books with incest, genocide, adultery... that would be their Babble.

As a parent of two sons at Townview, I really do not care what a teacher did when they were 18.

What I do care about is the lawsuit which is most certainly coming as a result of her termination. Thanks again Miles for spending money on things outside the classroom.

If we can look the other way when a school board member gets caught participating in gloryhole time at the NorthPark Dillards, then college age legal jobs should be off limits as well.

As a teacher, this really bums me out. I get tons of judgement just based on my tattoos and "crazy" lifestyle (going to concerts?).

Parents would rather have an ineffective and un-engaging teacher with a clean slate than a riveting and talented one who has an "objectionable" past. Sad.

natalie.cowley

If nudity is her first love, then go for it....do NOT put my child in it.  IN ANY WAY.  I'm so not against porn, anything, but when my child needs an educator....that is what she needs.  If she wants to pose nude....let her make that her FIRST priority.

natalie.cowley

So how would you feel if it was a grown up man that posed in Playgirl with his d*** out to show everyone?  Men, is it the same?

Since her offense is ongoing, retroactivity doesn't apply.  The images she made available years ago, she still makes available today.

Does the SBOE's Code of Ethics prohibit this by current teachers or at any time prior to the person becoming a teacher?

@natalie.cowley I'm quite confused as to how the drug your or anyone else's kids into it. She wasn't publicizing what she had done. The question is can she teach Spanish effectively? If so, who cares what she did in her past. And yes, my reaction would be the same if it were a male. It's not like she was teaching in the nude.

Back in college I got drunk a lot of times and made an ass out of myself, does that preclude me from being a teacher? It's her past, so long as she can teach I don't understand the harm.

Sharon_Moreanus

Wouldn't care.

Id rather her teach the children than a someone as tight assed, closed minded as you Natallie.

@natalie.cowley Made her bed of what?  Doing something perfectly legal.  She has done nothing wrong.  To fire her for a past in modeling Nude or otherwise is wrong.

@ThePosterFormerlyKnownasPaul @bvckvs How does posing for a magazine equate to having sex with a kid? I don't think there's a correlation. If anything, I'm fairly certain that the overwhelming majority--if not all--teachers who have had sex with students have not posed for Playboy.

natalie.cowley
natalie.cowley

@Sharon_Moreanus  Really?  So I'm not tight assed.  Very liberal.  I'm all for "do what you want to do" , but when MY CHILD is involved they know they must be a great role model.  I'm not against playmates/porn stars, however when it comes to my toddler and she asks me about the "teacher being naked"...how do you respond???

@donopolis68 @natalie.cowley

It's the "morals clause" in her teaching contract.

Apparently it is quite alright and acceptable for our children to be exposed to violence, murder, mayhem, automatic gunfire (you know the kind, where 20 guys face off with automatic weapons and 30,000 rounds later one of the bad guys gets a flesh wound), fisticuffs, brawling, fighting, 'rasslin', pugilism, etc.; yet there be just one slight, covert, innocuous innuendo that a teacher may have had some sort of display of heterosexual sexuality, it is then "Katy, bar the doors" and protect our precious children from this evil, disturbing, life threatening experience that will forever scar and corrupt them.

natalie.cowley
natalie.cowley

@donopolis68 @natalie.cowley  I could care less about Playboy or anything else.   However, when you want to represent yourself as a pillar or teacher of the community then you need to think about what you do.  Trust me, I'm far far from being Mother Theresa.  I just think when it comes to kids you have to think about what your life goals are and do your best in prior years to establish those goals.

The "Clinton Defense" - that anything except intercourse is not "sex" - is not a valid defense.

Not that it matters, since nobody accused her of having sex with a kid.

@natalie.cowley I'm confused. How is your child involved? How is your toddler knowing about or even conceiving of "teacher being naked"?

Get over yourself. Your child is not involved anymore than your child is involved with a single teacher going to the bar and having a few drinks on the weekend.

@natalie.cowley @Sharon_Moreanus Natalie touches on an important point: Studies have shown that teenagers who are exposed to nudity have a high likelihood of growing up to be nude themselves. I'm very liberal, believe in free love, yes folks I'm "loosey-goosey," but if there's one thing that terrifies me it's a Spanish teacher's titties.

Sharon_Moreanus

@natalie.cowley @donopolis68 She was teaching High School spanish.  If she posted the pictures all around her classroom, it would most likely be Ozzie and Harriet prude compared to what the boys in the class had already concocted in their imaginations.

later on, your comments go on about your toddler.  Ok fine, don't let the woman teach pre-K.  by High School, I hope you're a concerned enough parent to have already hashed all this out with your kid, because if you don't, her peers certainly will.  And the lessons won't be the ones you'd want her to get.
