Rangers Pitcher Matt Garza Went on a Misogynistic Twitter Rampage This Weekend

The square jaw and impressively rectangular goatee should be proof enough of the incredible manliness of the Rangers' newly acquired righty Matt Garza. So manly is he that it's all but inevitable that the testosterone that courses through his veins will eventually boil over and spill out onto Twitter, which is what happened after Saturday's loss to the Oakland A's.

Here's a sample of the Tweets, directed at the wife of A's infielder Eric Sogard:

@KayceeSogard tell your husband to speak up so his wife doesn't have to do it for him... Chumps! Hahaha! (@Gdeuceswild) August 3, 2013

Where I come from, if my wife spoke up for me, so give your husband his balls back! It's a mans came and keep your trap shut! @EricSogard (@Gdeuceswild) August 3, 2013

@EricSogard keep your woman out of it... Mans game...So no place in Oakland to eat huh! (@Gdeuceswild) August 3, 2013

@RealNolanBailey @EricSogard childish is having your wife speak for you! certain people can't shut there woman up! (@Gdeuceswild) August 3, 2013

The backstory is that Sogard laid down a textbook squeeze bunt in the seventh inning of Saturday's game, driving in an insurance run. This made Garza want to murder the scrappy second baseman, at least judging by this USA Today photo and his profanity-laced tirade upon reaching the dugout. Yahoo Sports speculates that Garza felt that Oakland was taking advantage of his "strange inability to make quality throws while not on the pitcher's mound."

Garza apologized on Twitter later that night for "let[ing] my competitive edge out," then followed up on Sunday with an actual apology:

All I want to say is I let my competitive spirit cross outside the lines, and that shouldn't happen. I let my passion, my fire carry over, and that's not how this game should be played. And for that I apologize to the Sogards for anything that was said through my Twitter. That's all I have. I regret what happened, and I'm just looking forward to a great game today.

Aren't opponents supposed to identify and exploit your weaknesses?

Good pitcher and glad we have him, but shut your trap and learn to play defense.

I think the author needs to re-read the tweets or look up the word misogyny. It looks like Garza is suggesting that the wife is empowered in the relationship. Thats almost the opposite of misogynistic.

So, he uses his twitter account to whine...

Yep, a real man-up type of action....

Looks like the Rangers have brought in another whiner

I can see the rage if Garza was throwing a no hitter and the hitter tried to bunt late in the innings with the bases empty, but Oakland was playing good baseball with the SF.

am i the only one annoyed that the lead describes his goatee as rectangular when the picture clearly shows a triangular goatee?

Maybe he should shut up and learn to field a bunt.

Twitter is like the window into the soul of idiotic celebrities that we never really wanted or asked for.

It does, however, provide for endless entertainment around the virtual water-cooler.

I hope it was a woman that told him to apologize.

Lou Brown: Good, I like that kind of spirit in a player.

I hope he sticks it up his fucking ass next time he pitches to Sogard

"I apologize for anything that was said through my Twitter"???

It certainly takes a huge amount of "manliness" to come up with that lame of an apology...

@petenelson277 Well, if he did, I'm sure this dumbshit site would scrape out out and throw it randomly into the comments.
