Junius Heights Welcomes Barking Dog Avi Adelman By Burglarizing His New House

Categories: Neighborhoods

When the news came out that Avi Adelman, who stood sentinel over Lower Greenville for a quarter century, had sold his Belmont Avenue home, he was cagey when asked where he was heading.

We now know the answer is Junius Heights, where he and his wife have purchased a modest, two-bedroom home. We know this because DCAD now lists Adelman as the owner, and also because he reported to police that his new place was burglarized early Thursday morning.

The thieves broke down the back door at some point between 3 a.m., when a contractor friend who was working on the air conditioning left, and 10 a.m., when Adelman showed up. They stole $250 worth of power tools from the living room. They moved a table saw but left without it.

Adelman thinks the burglars had been watching the house, which makes sense given the contractor's late departure. Last night, Adelman spent the night on an air mattress in his truck, just in case they decided to return.

Adelman says this was the second time the house has been burglarized in recent months. A couple of weeks before he bought it, thieves broke through the back door and stole a stove, though no report shows up in DPD's public access system. Nevertheless, he views the new neighborhood as mostly safe and doesn't expect much trouble.

Perhaps it's just Junius Heights' way of rolling out the welcome mat.

It's all public information. Avi lives at 5620 East Side Ave Dallas,TX 75214. Not the classiest neighborhood I must say.

Perhaps a correction is in order, since he did NOT move to Junius Heights. Which is, by the way, a lovely and safe neighborhood. There is only one propery on Eastside that is is Junius Heights, and it it NOT his.

My suggestion to the "barking dog" is to get one.

a nice sized, loud dog is the best deterrent you can have. most thieves would just rather not.

City code is pretty darn specific on working hours for contractors, and 3AM isn't close to any of them. If this post is accurate I suggest that he create some poorly designed websites to harass himself.

Or maybe his contractors stole from him, be it they were working at 3 am

This is what happens to people who piss off drunk douchebags and hoochy-mama's.

Some of my best memories are from contractors performing work for me at 3 AM.

Hahahaha to the little bitch.

Seems a bit unprofessional for the Observe to revel in this "news," as they seem to be doing. Also seems dangerous to publish his new address--even if it is publically available--to further subject him to targeted crimes because of his past neighborhood advocacy.

At least nobody peed in his yard.

Did Eric mean to say "who's stood sentinel" instead of "whose stood sentinel"? I think I would have said it differently to make it read better.

Huh, I figured he would have moved to whatever tract home development in the exurbs that had the most gestapo like HOA he could fine.

Out of curiosity, how and why does one steal a stove? That seems a lot of work.

@JohnNeelyBryan really depends on the nature of the work, and the amount of noise involved.  Duct work, wiring, weatherproofing might not make much noise

@DTaylor Avi put himself out there, not the Observer.  I don't see that the Observer is 'revelling' in this news.  A reportable event happened to a self-elevated public persona in Dallas.  Looks like the Observer is doing their job.

The DO is an advocacy organization and guide for drunks, they have certain standards to abide by. Oh, it's also free and worth every penny.

@jmckee3 But that would take the fun out of it for him... No websites to create, no confrontations with the neighbors, etc... Why live under the Gestapo when you can BE the Gestapo...

P1Gunter

@ruddski You say that, but I'll be damned if the Observer isn't a better source of news than the DMN or local TV news. Now whether that is faint praise, now that is debatable.

@NewsDog @rzimmerman1

Probably, but I think Eric meant to use the contraction for "who has" but got it mixed-up with the possessive form.

@everlastingphelps Stealing the metal from the A/C unit seems a lot easier. Even the crappiest stove I've ever had weighed a ton.

iwearblack

@P1Gunter @ScottsMerkin He probably did it himself to claim insurance... Why else would he be claiming a false precedent for break-ins on the property?

ScottsMerkin
ScottsMerkin topcommenter

@P1Gunter well they had to "break in" to make it look like a break in.

P1Gunter
P1Gunter

@ScottsMerkin But a contractor wouldn't need to break in. Even per Phelps' high end that you could get $40 for a stove, that's not enough money for anyone but a crackhead to put together a team and get a truck, and too little for anyone else to bother. It just sounds fishy to me.

Adrenaline works wonders at 3AM when you're stealing other people's stuff.

P1Gunter

@everlastingphelps @P1Gunter I get what you're saying, and I know addicts are industrious as hell. But assuming this is even a crappy apartment stove, it would take at least two men and a dolly, and a truck, to steal a stove unless it was a Franklin Stove. That's way too much effort for your standard pipehead.

everlastingphelps
everlastingphelps topcommenter

@P1Gunter @everlastingphelps Right, but that weight is what they want.  It's all steel.  In any event, it's probably being sold to appliance shops, who don't have to deal with the scrapping ID laws.  I wouldn't be surprised if a good stove sells for $20-40.  That's a lot of rock for a crackhead.
