Police: A 20-Year-Old Dallas Stripper Starved Her Dog and Stuffed its Corpse in Her Garage

It didn't take a detective to follow the trail of dried blood to garage #15D, or to figure out that the stench coming from inside was from a rotting corpse. An employee of La Valencia apartments, a complex sandwiched between Stemmons and Walton Walker freeways just northwest of Love Field, could figure out that much. A couple of Dallas PD patrol officers, Jonathan McMillion and Clair Schricker, were the ones who opened the garage and discovered that the corpse belonged to a dog rather than a person.

The garage, they soon learned, belonged to 20-year-old Brianna Burkowski -- listed occupation: "stripper" -- who occupied unit #1526. The dog belonged to her too.

Burkoswki told officers that her dog had died a few days before, and that she'd wrapped it in a blanket and put it in the garage.

An animal control officer with the city of Dallas who was called to investigate determined that the animal had died after being starved and deprived of water and proper shelter. Burkowski was arrested for animal cruelty and taken to Lew Sterrett, according to the police report.

What a sick bitch! She should have the same done to her as she did to her poor dog.

On a side note.....i'd hit it.

The only thing I don't understand is had she done this to a rabbit or mouse it wouldn't be considered animal cruelty.

This is absolutely disgusting.  She should get the same sentencing she would if she murdered a human and  tried to hide the body.  There is no excuse for animal cruelty, period, especially of this extent.

I truly hope, with all of my heart, that this bitch has the worst life ever, & that she burns in hell for all eternity.  The dog was worth more than her.  They should starve her to death & shit on her stinkng dead body.  Die bitch!!

Dear All:

I certainly do not want to defend what Ms. Burkowski is alleged to have done. But I think that a case like this asks us to consider our moral obligations to animals on a deeper level.

The reason why Ms. Burkowski--or people like Michael Vick--makes us angry is that they inflict suffering and death on animals for no good reason.

We *all* agree that inflicting "unnecessary" suffering and death on animals is wrong. But when is suffering and death "necessary"? Whatever the answer to that question, we all agree that pleasure or amusement cannot justify our inflicting suffering and death on other sentient beings.

But  we inflict suffering and death on animals for reasons of pleasure and amusement all the time, with the numerically most significant example being the use of animals for food. The billions of animals we use for food are treated horribly under the best of circumstances and there is no need whatsoever for us to consume animal foods for reasons of health. Indeed, an increasing number of mainstream health care professionals are telling us that animal foods are detrimental to human health. In any event, they certainly are not necessary. for health.

So, in a sense, we are all Brianna Burkowski. The person who enjoys killing animals or watching them kill each other, or who directly participates in the killing, may be a more brutal person than the one who pays another to do the killing. So there may be a psychological difference between the person who pays another to kill and the person who actually kills, but as far as moral culpability is concerned, there is no difference. In both cases, animals have suffered and died for reasons of pleasure (whether palate pleasure or otherwise), amusement, or convenience.

Many animal lovers who are not vegans do not hesitate to criticize those who hunt. Although there is a psychological difference between the hunter and the person who goes to the store and purchases meat or other animal products, there is no moral difference. Indeed, the animal whose corpse is purchased at the supermarket probably had an overall worse life and death than did the hunted animal. But in both cases, suffering and death occurred for no morally acceptable reason.

We currently have a case in New Jersey that is similar to the Burkowski case. I wrote an editorial about the New Jersey case two weeks ago. You may read it here:

http://blog.nj.com/njv_guest_blog/2013/08/are_we_the_animal-lovers_we_th.html

I reiterate: I do not defend with Ms. Burkowski is alleged to have done. But before we condemn her, we should think about how most of us are guilty of similarly immoral behavior.

Thank you for your consideration of my views.

Gary L. Francione / Professor, Rutgers University

stripper is the one occupation whose workers make 1k or so a week and yet cant afford a car or apparently dog food.  Cocaine is a hell of a drug indeed.  Or paying for your boyfriend's car and xbox live subscription is expensive as hell too.

I am still kind of surprised that the Observer staff thought that it would be perfectly reasonable to put this girl's fucking apartment number in the article. Every other report I read just gave the area. Maybe the apartment name. Unfair Park thinks its cool to give people a fucking map to her front door.

Maybe colloquially it's permissible in the right context, but this is supposed to be a news article, not a tabloid.

Does anyone really give a shit if they call her a stripper, "exotic dancer," or stage slut?? It's adult entertainment. There's nothing PC about it.

Well it doesn't really matter if you see nothing wrong with it. It's up to the women employed in that industry to decide what they'd like to be called, not you.

A 26-year-old Trego woman pleaded guilty during U.S. District Court proceedings July 10 in Missoula to a charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Brandy Burkowski was involved in trafficking pound quantities of meth from California to Flathead County, allegedly with Kalispell resident Lucas Brager.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, agents seized a truck on Aug. 17, 2011, during a burglary investigation. At the time it was seized, it was occupied by Brager, Burkowski and another person. A search of the vehicle turned up meth and suspected heroin as well as three firearms.

When interviewed several days later, Burkowski admitted she and another person had made several trips to California to pick up pound quantities of meth to bring back and distribute in Flathead County. Burkowski said she originally was dealing methamphetamine to Derek Heft but was now receiving meth from Heft.

Burkowski also said she received and distributed roughly 2 pounds of meth every other week, traveling to Casper, Wyo., once each week for two years, receiving 20 ounces of meth each time.

When Brager was interviewed on Oct. 31, 2011, he said he was employed by Heft, Torgenrud (who owned the seized truck) and another person as an enforcer to collect drug debts from distributors and customers.

Brager said Heft would deposit large amounts of money into Wells Fargo bank accounts at the direction of the third person. Brager himself was paid between 35 and 50 percent of what he was able to collect. He was paid in meth, money or merchandise.

Brager, Heft and Torgenrud have pleaded guilty to federal charges and are awaiting sentencing.

Burkowski faces a mandatory minimum 10 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison along with five years of probation and a fine of up to $10 million. Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 12.

Holy shit. You are a hypocritical idiot. No, the dog didnt deserve that by any means. But you think treating a person like that is humane? You are a bad person.

@gfrancione Professor, you are right on the money. Aside from the health and moral reasons for eliminating meat from one's diet, there is copious evidence to support the environmental conservation argument.

@gfrancione I am a carnivore.  I read your article and respect your view.  Honestly I can't get down a salad if I tried.  I love the smell and I'd love almost nothing more than the be a vegetarian.  Literally, the leafy stuff comes right back up.  With that said, to make a comparison between "man's best friend" and a cow is a little shortsighted.  There is no doubt in my mind that the humble dog decided on its own as a species to align itself with man.  A long time ago the dog noticed how we took down a mammoth.  The dogs had a meeting after viewing this and said, "Hey, we've been trying to take down one of those things forever and those two legged freaks just accomplished that goal.  Now we've noticed they don't hear too well and their sense of smell is lacking.  Lets say we team up with those humans, show them how we can be an asset to their lives and maybe they'll share some of that food with us."  Dogs are smart creatures, there is no doubt.  Dogs help humans in many ways whether we're carnivores or vegetarians.  There is a reason they are called "man's best friend" the least of which is because that statement has stood the test of time.  As humans we should fulfill our side of the obligation.  A dog wants nothing more than to please it's human.  Literally...nothing more.  That is no accident.

So while I respect your view on consuming animals, to make a connection with the humble and servant dog is a bit out of line.

@Liz Larsen No it's not.  Your "me" centered mentality is the problem with the world these days.  In reality, she will have to learn to deal with being called what society generally labels her as and stop taking herself so seriously.  In other words she will have to learn to deal with the discomfort of the label she's rightfully given.

@bronco_5 @gfrancione Mans best friend only in US. if you go to Vietnam, you can pick out your dog from a cage on the street. They will cook it up just the way you like it. So how are dogs different from cows? Go to France and you can have a horse for dinner.
