A Texas Child Protective Services Investigator Was Fired for Tweeting About "Nigartards"

rita_screenshot_opt.jpg
The Internet tells us that Rita McShannon wears many hats. She's a small business owner, a real estate agent, an Oath Keeper, and a special investigator with Texas Child Protective Services. She's also, we learned yesterday, an unapologetic racist.

Credit the Texas Observer's Forrest Wilder for catching that last one. He reported on Wednesday that McShannon, using the handle @TexasPeanut, went on something of a Twitter rant during the recent murder trial of George Zimmerman. She's since deleted her Twitter account, so no screengrabs, but Wilder preserved the text of a handful of tweets.

Of course the gov will pursue civil rights charges to appease the nigartards. -- Texas Peanut (@TexasPeanut) July 15, 2013

Every white American needs to own a gun and teach your family gun safety and how to shoot...your family is a target now...it will get worse -- Texas Peanut (@TexasPeanut) July 15, 2013

Trayvon Martin, thug in training, came up against an American gun owner, jumped the wrong person that night, he would have died young anyway -- Texas Peanut (@TexasPeanut) July 15, 2013

I'm really f#cking tired of being politically correct for nothing after all these years! Texas Peanut (@TexasPeanut) July 15, 2013

That the woman managed to squeeze two of the most offensive epithets in modern English into an even more offensive portmanteau is rather industrious, but her bosses at CPS were unimpressed. They were contacted by Wilder about the Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday morning, she was fired, two days after posting @TexasPeanut's final tweet:

"I'm not racist..I'll kill any color of person who tries to kill me first!"

This is what ppl on the right don't seem to get.  She can be AGAINST Trayvon and FOR Zimmerman without being a digusting human being.

Can we agree on that?

Remember the millions who died so she has the right to say what she wants... and let's never forget those souls by giving an ignorant "name calling" event even a minute's thought....

If this is what CPS fired her over, it looks like they just lost another lawsuit.

She got off easy.  They need to investigate each of her cases to see if she allowed abuse of minority children to go on.  If so, they should pack her off to jail.

Not seeing anything wrong here. Political correctness is the new McCarthyism. She's only saying what rational people are thinking.

Take off your ignorant blinders...Race still does matter and it is unfortunate that some people just don't get it...There is always a double standard...wow! If you don't believe race matters look at how criminals are treated based on color of skin....

A couple in Texas just got 5 years probation after killing three puppies with their bare hands but Mike Vick went to prison and he didn't even see the dogs.... God Bless America!

The "Oath Keeper" bit explains it all.

Not surprised. She's just saying out loud what so many of these butt-ignorant people think. These are the ones who decides who gets to keep their kids in TX! Beware! They're like cockroaches once you let them in your house!

Just curious, does Mr. Wilder also offer his racist bounty hunter services to black employees as well or is he of the belief that only white people can be racist? Wait if he believes that, wouldn't that make him racist. Tell him to immediately report himself and wait patiently to be fired so he can write a story about it.

When will people learn that words only have the power we choose to give them. Let racists rant and spew...who cares? They only make themselves look ignorant. At the end of the day, does anything she said really matter?

The color of peoples skin is not the problem in this world. It's stupidity! Stupidity not knowing what's wrong and what's right, hurting and stealing from people to opening your stupid mouth and saying stupid things. In any instance you will pay for being stupid... It's time to pay up!

I love this "preserve the text of a handful of tweets". I'm going to start preserving the text  of a handful of non-existent tweets from some people I don't like right now. What are they going to do, claim they didn't tweet them when they had the Twitter account they don't have?

I'd love to repost this story, but I can't as long as that ridiculously awful word is in the headline. I don't need the association.

still cant figure why these people are so worried about people killing them. I've never had anyone try to kill me, and im not saying it doesn't happen, but it seems like these people are really paranoid.  homeowners and elderly people may a gun, but it seems like such a weird crutch to constantly talk about and tweet about.

Dallas_dude
Dallas_dude

If I may play devils advocate....Her racist stupidity not with standing, the core of her argument was solid.  This is a second amendment country.  With any confrontation you have to assume the other person has a gun. PERIOD.  Otherwise, you might end up dead.  Lesson hear is avoid confrontation.  You think your big and bad and well you just dead and wrong. Ceratin people have picked up on this, others have not. You call it racism, I call it natural selection.

With that said....

1)Twitter is so worthless.  It will only cause you problems.

2) If you're going to go on a rant like this, freakin own it.  Don't back down.

3)Lastly, as a person of color, I'd hit that.

Yes, you can have your own thoughts, there is no argument about that, BUT when you are in a position like she was, there is NO ROOM for racism.  End of discussion!

@corkyvonluxembourg Even rational people, some of whom may be bigoted, would refrain from using words that deeply hurt people.  The word she used has a double-whammy slap.  It's hateful and disgusting.

@James080 @Wynn James, how did someone as slow as you get to be a Top Commenter (wait, I just answered my own question)?

Unlike with Weiner, in this case the only evidence is the "preservings" of the arcadian "Forrest Wilder". I'd estimate the return on investing in a defamation suit against the TO on McShannon's behalf to be on the order of 20-30%, more if VVM could be named as well. This is the sort of opportunity you sell shares in, quietly of course.

Doesn't really matter if she did it or not, just that there are more parties to her firing even more stupid than she might have been.

I don't give to sh!ts what someone calls me.  That's why I've managed to have a moderate level of success in my life.  Stop being concerned about what other people think.  People waste so much energy on dumb stuff.

method_man1449
method_man1449

@mcdallas @bvckvs yes well when encountering a specific group of people, especially ones who malign so quickly those not expressing similar beliefs and ways of life. it's kind of hard not to reserve such "judgements" however inappropriate or far reaching they may be.

James080
James080

@Wynn @James080

There are plenty of people smarter than I am, you're just not one of them. Truth is the perfect defense to a defamation suit.

If you think investing in a speculative defamation suit against the media on McShannon's behalf is a reasonable investment, I'll take the short side of your bet every day.

Why is it that the "poverty leaves people with no choice" argument only seems to apply to black people?  How about all those poor indians that come here, get jobs, start businesses and force their kids in to school and academics?  How about the chinese and koreans that come here with nothing?  Did poverty leave them with no choice?  Africans (from Africa) I see alot of them that succeed and seek out education.  And yes even a lot of 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics manage to fight their way out of poverty.  Why is it that ONLY black people have been caught up in this never ending generational after generation cycle of failure?  Are you seriously blamnig the government?  You can't take accountability that community has failed itself?

Unwound

@dallas_dude so youre equating poverty with not taking accountability? income inequality is at its highest rate since the late 20's, and things are gamed so badly against the poor that its almost impossible to move up the food chain.

@hellayella @dallas_dude Not sure how she treated the families or the children, maybe she had seen so much horrible shit it colored her feelings,

But certainly her compassion for others should be called into question and she definitely shouldn't be in a position of helping the public

dallas_dude
dallas_dude

I don't think she's a racist.  I think she's frustrated and saying what we all know and think.  A large group of people in this country aren't pulling their weight.  She voiced her opinion like a complete f-ing idiot, but she's still correct.  From the crime rate, murder rate amongst blacks, teen birth rate, drop out rate, education, obesity, drug arrest, the list goes on and on.  You can't blame everything on the government or whitey.  Stop being a victim and take accountability.

hellayella
hellayella

@dallas_dude the problem is that racism isn't just about words and hurt feelings. it's an institutional problem. this woman is racist, but she also works for child protective services. can you imagine how she must have treated black children/families? now multiply that dilemma by all the people in similar positions of power who share her views.

RTGolden1
RTGolden1 topcommenter

@CogitoErgoSum I hesitate to jump into this, as it is often a circular argument.  For curiosity's sake, I must ask, which side of the color line do your views on what makes a racist come from?  I've never experienced racism from the black perspective, being a white guy.  I'm sure jada's observation is based more on their experiences of racism, rather than what they read in some study or poll about it.

CogitoErgoSum
CogitoErgoSum

@jada5876 @dallas_dude The more money they have? Wow. Generalize much? How about instead, the more intelligent and/or educated they are? I don't think the money part is the primary factor as to why someone is less likely to be racist.

jada5876
jada5876

@dallas_dude I have to agree...the fact that some of them use the n word does not send me into bouts of shock and awe!!! what I do to balance my universe is keep a classier type of Caucasian in my circle and I find that the more money they have the less bitter and OPENLY racist they are...I'm just trying to make it to heaven...
