In Saginaw Murder Case, Police Zeroed in on a Suspect, and Then He Opened Fire

The three weeks that have passed since the body of 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher's was found by teenage passersby in Saginaw, naked, bound and gagged, and wrapped in heavy plastic, have been unnervingly quiet. Police have been following up on leads, rummaging through Alanna's things, and otherwise turning over every rock they could find in hopes of finding her killer.

Publicly, at least, their efforts had turned up nothing more suspicious than than her polyamorous household.

That changed today. Four days after a front-yard memorial was set ablaze, investigators linked DNA evidence taken from the crime scene to a neighbor identified as 17-year-old Tyler Holder. Police arrived at his home, two doors down from Alanna's, with an arrest warrant. According to NBC 5, he pulled a gun from his waistband when he opened the door, striking one officer in the leg.

Officers returned fire. Holder was taken to the hospital with a head injury. His condition is unknown.

Investigators interviewed Holder shortly after Alanna's body was found but did not have enough evidence to make an arrest. There's not a lot of information about the teenager save what's provided on his Facebook page. He says he graduated from North Hills Private School in Denton last year. He is also very fond of taking selfies while blowing marijuana smoke.

This guy's photo should be in Urban Dictionary under the definition of "loser."

DO is really throwing me off today...One article about a Hispanic boy being killed was the turning point for blacks and Hispanics and the Dallas justice system when I thought now Hispanics were white....and a 17 year old who smokes pot can be bad instead of being a innocent child......If they find any skittles or ice tea in this kids home...its going to blow my MIND!

At least saying Noose around a black person is still bad otherwise I would have thought everything they harped on last week was just BS and they were pandering to their rainbow and flowers.

I wonder if the right-wingers blaming the crime on the parent's polyamorous lifestyle will be apologizing?

He exercised his constitutional right as a "well-regulated Militia", but a better well-regulated Militia got a head shot.

More and more interesting.  I wonder when we will find out what the motive was?  Assuming that there was a motive for this.

this can't be.  according to everything I've heard In the past week or so, a 17 year old is just a child.  also, everybody knows marijuana smokers are harmless ...

@TexMarine WTF is WRONG WITH YOU? This kid raped and murdered a 6 year old. Trayvon Martin just got shot. What is your problem, racist Tex- no fucking Marine would say that shit.

@EdD. You just self-identified as an idiot. Him being 17 and in possession of a pistol is a crime, so there will be no NRA statement because the NRA doesn't support illegal possession.

I'm not an NRA member or supporter, but why do you feel the NRA owes you an explanation about anything?

@dlstxmale   Child murderers breathe air.  You breathe air too, therefore you're probably a child murderer.

ScottsMerkin

@dlstxmale some 17 year olds act children, some act like adults, and some are punk ass baby murderers.   I think you can figure out which one

@ruddski He was linked to the crime scene in which the memorial was set on fire - not linked to murdering the 6 year-old girl. You want to put someone to death for lighting some stuffed animals on fire?

ScottsMerkin

@ruddski I dont think Perry got that bill passed yet, they were too worried about vaginas and closing womens health centers.

James_the_P3
James_the_P3

@ruddski Nope.  Not even old enough for life without parole.  And since our legislature is too busy worrying about abortion, there's no way to charge him with capital murder, as the only two sentences for that crime are death and life without parole (which cannot be constitutionally applied to a minor).  So, yea!  Good job, Lege--he'll be out in 25 years.

@havoth1 What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? Let me guess, you count yourself among those who weep for Trayvon. You poor thing. I'm merely setting context that TM was no angel and neither was this punk. Racist? Because TM's black, no white can say anything? Your white guilt reveals your racism.

And your assertion that "no fucking Marine would say that shit" tells me that your experience is very limited; mostly to your imagination.

Now go smother your cats.

@whocareswhatithink @EdD. He pops another anti-depressant and walks into mom's closet to retrieve it. Did she not know that he had given a DNA sample days earlier and that he MIGHT be under suspicion? Maybe that would have been a signal to ensure that the guns are locked up and he's not going to be a danger to anyone?

@TexMarine @EdD.  The NRA doesn't support illegal possession, but they do fight any effort to prevent illegal possession.

@miss-ashly @ruddski He did shoot at the police, which is probably a little more serious a crime than setting some stuffed animals on fire.

ScottsMerkin

@miss-ashly @ruddski multiple news stations have reported that he was linked to the murder of the girl.  I have not seen a story that says he was linked to the fire at the memorial of the little girl

OK then, Rick Perry, vaginas, abortion, Texas legislature. Can we get a reference to the NRA in before noon?

TexMarine
TexMarine

@observist The problem that you fail to see is that they do not support empty legislation that will do nothing to stop senseless gun violence. In the context of THIS CASE, it wasn't his pistol in the first place, most likely his mothers, so no background checks, national databases, or any other imaginary "feel good" act would have stopped this or any of the thousands of shootings in Chicago.

@EdD. That just isn't true.  The NRA regularly calls for better enforcement of existing laws.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @RTGolden1 In this whole scenario, is the greater tradgedy the presence of guns or the fact that some sicko took a child's life?

I guess in your world, child killers are ok, as long as they don't use guns to do it?

@James_the_P3 @Tom434 @ruddski No, this bill was purposed to address the Parker County case of the17 yo who killed his mother and sister.  If this guy lives and the facts fit a capital murder charge he will be charged with capital murder

James_the_P3
James_the_P3

@Tom434 @James_the_P3 @ruddski Not until after the crime was committed, so it's ex post facto.  Had it been done in the first special session, it could be used.  But as it is, he can't be prosecuted for capital murder.
