After a McKinney Mosque Is Shot Up With Paintballs, Calls for a Hate Crime Probe

It may have been just a random prank: two dozen paintballs fired behind the Sonic in a McKinney strip center in the middle of Saturday night. The same could be said of the man whose car was hit while he drove away. But the Council on American-Islamic Relations has another word for it: hate crime.

The paintballs fired Saturday night were aimed at the McKinney Islamic Association's six-month-old mosque at Eldorado Parkway and Hardin Boulevard. Mosque officials contacted police then, because Islamic religious centers don't tend to be vandalized by accident, says CAIR, the country's largest Muslim civil liberties group. CAIR, in turn, released and widely distributed a press release calling for the incident to be investigated as a hate crime.

"If a bias motive is proven in this case, the perpetrators should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, including appropriate hate crime enhancements," CAIR-DFW President Amina Rab said in the press release. "Local, state and national leaders should acknowledge the growing Islamophobia in our nation that can lead to such attacks."

The paintball attack comes after several mosque-goers report being "verbally harassed ... by young people who gather near the mosque," according to the release. Mosque officials say McKinney police have promised increased patrols of the area following the attack.

ever since 9/11 CAIR in conjunction with the compliant MSM has put forth false stories about backlashes against Muslims along with so called "hate" crimes. but when one looks at the FBI hate crime statistics you'll find the "There were nine times more anti-Jewish hate crimes reported in 2009 than those against Muslims, new statistics released by the FBI show." http://www.investigativeproject.org/blog/2010/11/islamophobia-not-reflected-in-fbi-hate-crimes

also there have been cases where Muslims have committed the hate crime against themselves

"n the immediate aftermath of each of the dozen attacks by Muslim Americans since 9-11, the conversation has been dominated by predictions of inevitable violence toward Muslims by bigoted Americans unable to control their rage. And each time a backlash has been virtually nonexistent. Our journalistic and political elites have become terrorism's unwitting domestic enablers, perceiving religion-based violence where there is none, while ignoring it where it is widespread and intensifying."

This seems like an overreaction, but I understand CAIR's position, too. If there are some more serious anti-Islam elements just under the surface in McKinney (not outside the realm of possibility), and this goes unpunished, it could embolden them. Then everyone looks back at this and asks why nothing was said or done. A bit of CYA, that's all.

Paintball paint is designed to wash off easy.  If it were a "hate crime" don't you think they would have used something more permenant?   Hate crimes are a crock of $hit made up by libtard lunacy anyway.  Unless you are doing crime to survive, such as stealing bread, all victim crime is a hate crime.

Paintballs? This is a tempest in a teapot. Wake me up when there's any real danger.

I loved my paintball gun when I was a kid. I once shot a man in Reno just to watch paint dry.

Anyway, on a lighter note, Big Kitty is in the doghouse.  I came in from shopping and heard laughter coming from the front room.  I sneaked into the room and found Big Kitty tapping away on my keyboard with a crazed look, doing an impression of Myrna.

Big rift in the comments: 'Nothing to see here' VS. 'Kristallnacht v.2.0'.  If common sense were to reign, we'd probably note that the real situation, like much of real life, lies somewhere in the middle.  Could this be a hate crime warranting further investigation? Absolutely (note to Myrna: not just mosques and synagogues get vandalized and attacked, churches do as well, bias by omission is still bias).  Could this be more of CAIR's self-aggrandizement? Certainly, CAIR has a long way to go if it ever wants to be taken seriously as 'civil rights organization' again.

Hypothetically, could it also be some mixture of the hate crime and the idle youths theory?  Could the idle youths have picked this place as a target to vandalize partly because it is a Moslem house of worship?  This is also possible, but whether it warrants a hate crime prosecution or just some small town justice of making the offenders clean the damage and do some community service, is certainly debatable.  One thing that isn't debatable, nobody has the facts yet, but everyone 'knows' exactly what this is.

I would think if this was really a hate crime, a Molotov Cocktail or at least spray paint with ethnic slurs would be more like it. It sounds like some kids being moronic. Find them and fine them...

I lived in McKinney the Police there are  like the love child of the Keystone Kops and Barney Fife. They could not catch a cold in Janurary. I was swindled by a McKinney Resident Trey Teichelman III and their attitude was 80,000 Dollars  that is not even worth our time. Bet it would have been if I took a Cadiallac for Free.  Nothing will happen here

Not really seeing a hate crime here, more an act of stupid kids being stupid, I say find them, make them pay the fine and do some community service down at the ol' Mosque...

Bored teenagers with paint means hijinks won't be far behind. Same thing happened to the Christian high school I attended - it had swastikas spray painted on the exterior of the building one night; it was called "vandalism".

How about we just investigate the incident and hold off on the "hate crime" kerfuffle until we have SOME idea who did it?  CAIR is just looking for publicity, because 9 times out of 10 when a place of worship is vandalized, it's someone (usually young) related to the membership, and they hit that place because they know there will be a huge reaction amongst their peers.

@pak152

So? So what?

As far as I can tell, the very business of EVERY religion is, first and foremost, to be tax exempt and, second, be a perpetual victim to persecution from any and all others - religious or secular.

Why should Islam be any different? And why does it offend you so much that it isn't?

@everlastingphelps ANY vandalization pf a house of worship is troubling. To brush that aside is to ignore history. But the law against "Hate Crime" has become an all-purpose legal flyswatter. I'm surprised they pass Constitutional muster.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @RTGolden1 ALL hate crimes are committed by people so closed-minded and arrogant as to assume their thoughts, beliefs and conclusions are the ONLY correct ones.......

@bvckvs @everlastingphelps So, anyone who doesn't jump to an immediate conclusion about this incident, even in the complete absence of facts, is an anti-government or bigot type? Do they let you vote with that brain of yours? I think you ought to put the pipe down for awhile.

Phelps hates Muslims so much that he actually believes, really believes, that Muslims attacked their mosque for publicity.

Oh, and any Jew who doesn't hate Muslims is a traitor to Judaism (like he said to me earlier on this comment board).

everlastingphelps

@bvckvs @everlastingphelps And when it turns out to be a bunch of Muslim teenagers that did it, then where does your "bigot type" and "racist" bullshit leave you?

Oh, yeah, in the bigot-type racist bin.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @everlastingphelps You are analogizing things that resist analogy because they are utterly dissimilar. Kristallnacht, and the events preceding, even prior to Hitler's accession to the Chancellorship of Germany, were conducted by organized, uniformed members of a state-sanctioned political party. Kristallnacht itself was conducted by state actors under the auspices of the governing bodies of Germany. Read a good survey of early-20th century European politics. Kristallnacht was official state violence, the events leading up to it in the years prior were either official or quasi-official state violence and oppression. Paintballnacht ain't that. Even assuming this attack was animated by hate or contempt for Muslims, you're trivializing the Holocaust and the official oppression of the Jewish population of Germany by making such a rank, uninformed juxtaposition.

Since the 1990's, Muslims have murdered thousands of Americans on US soil. In turn, there has been precious little in the way of a violent backlash against American Muslims. Have there been some who have been outspoken and negative towards the Muslim population? Sure. But last time I checked that isn't the same as burning mosques or bombing school buses.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @everlastingphelps This is nothing.  This isn't systematic.  This is punks with a paintball marker they picked up at Walmart.  I know people who LIVED Germany in the 30s.  My father in law was smuggled out of Germany in the 40s.

This isn't that.  That you would even suggest it ridicules the victims of that tyranny.

@everlastingphelps If the family has become Americanized, of course they're going to have asshole children. It's part of the price immigrants pay to come here.

But still I'd bet anything that the idea of paint-ballng a mosque would never cross those teenage minds.

@everlastingphelps Highly unlikely, Phelps. You apparently don't know much about the Muslim family, where piety and respect are pretty much the norm.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz He's suggesting nothing of the sort, Myrna. He is displaying a crass attitude towards the realities of history. But nothing that a little education can't overcome.

My guess, in a week or two he'll be looking back at his comment with acute embarrassment.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz

Myrna, don't be daft. He's suggesting no such thing.

I give 10- to-1 odds that this was the act of some dumb, bored, suburban middle-school boys, not a hate crime. (For one thing, it would be pretty easy to spray paint offensive phrases, if that was their intent.) The suggestion that this very realistic assessment makes me a Nazi apologist, or even indifferent to prejudice against Muslims, is beyond sanctimonious.

Dan, Phelps is suggesting that it was the Jews who broke the windows of Jewish businesses on Kristallnacht "because they knew there would be a huge reaction among their peers".
