A Frisco Man Told Police He Was Hit With a Shotgun, Robbed Outside a Dallas Bar This Morning [Updated]

Update at 3:03 p.m.: Amsterdam owner Mike Scheel called this afternoon to update us on a couple of things. One, he wanted to note that the bar does its best to protect patrons and employs an off-duty Dallas police sergeant. The sergeant was actually working at the bar last night when the robbery occurred but wasn't aware of it. Neither was Scheel for that matter, nor were any of the Observer staffers drinking there at the time.

He also wanted to say the two robbers were caught, and that they were caught not long after leaving the bar. Sure enough, police records show that Todd Nickolas Norman, 24, and Darius Renard Bables, 22, were booked into Lew Sterrett this morning on three counts of aggravated robbery.

Original post: A 27-year-old Frisco man and two friends were leaving the Amsterdam Bar last night at around 12:30 this morning, when they noticed a silver sedan idling a few spots away in the parking lot. They paid it little mind until, as they were getting into their car, a black man in his 30s, about 5'10" and 170 pounds with a shaved head, stepped toward them.

He was holding a shotgun, which was trained on the 27-year-old's face. The gunman then clocked him in the face with a shotgun and ordered him to lay down, then demanded money. When it wasn't immediately forthcoming, he muttered "Fine, I'll just kill the girls."

He didn't actually kill anyone, though he did get $19 and stole a $500 Tory Burch purse from one of the women. Loot in hand, he turned and ran back to the car, which was driven by another man who they didn't get a good look at but was wearing a red hat.

The Frisco resident's face was visibly bruised and had a small cut. He refused to be taken to the hospital. Dallas PD put out a general call for officers to be on the lookout for the silver car, license plate # BYR 0454, but they've had no luck as yet.

The Victim described a black man in his 30s, about 5'10" and 170 pounds with a shaved head, stepped toward them. That do not fit the description of neither one of them in the picture..SMH..

I'm confused as to why Amsterdam was referenced in this story headline. I'm reading this incident happened in a parking lot. Who cares what bar they left when they were robbed? It's Dallas, baby. It can happen anywhere in town! You will get robbed, sometimes attacked, possibly kidnapped. (Let us not forget the Observer's July 31st, 2003 article, "Number 1 With a Bullet".) You have to be a big kid and roll with the punches (sometimes literally), but for all the b.s. that Dallas dishes out, it is also fabulous - and the Amsterdam Bar is one of those fabulous things. Please do not poorly refer to the businesses that actually make Dallas a great place to live.

So this happened on premises or in the parking lot?  There are many businesses that use this parking lot, all of which you have to walk past to get to.  This is just lazy journalism.

Amsterdam is a fine place. Crime can happen anywhere.

uh, when that guy in the parking lot behind Amsterdam asks to wash your windows...be nice to him and pay him to do it. He does a good job. Don't make him go into the referral business. Just saying...

Meanwhile in Arlington, an 80 year old was carjacked in her driveway, murdered and left on the side of the road and the man is still loose.

The license plate belongs to a gray 2006 Toyota 4-door sedan, registered to a woman on Ledbetter.

Far be it for me to state the obvious but if the cops have the plate number why are they out looking ? LOL

This is why I look as busted as possible when I go to a bar. Theft deterrent!

Might as well change the name of this blog to Crime Blotter.

Rebecca Minkoff's bags are much better than Tory Burch's.

So where is the Amsterdam Bar?  I remember when a "news" story answered the, who, what, where, when & why of the details.

um...yeah
um...yeah

Why was someone from Frisco at Amsterdam? And why did his date have a Tory Burch purse?

Easy marks...

@ScottsMerkin It is amazing how little airtime that story is getting. 83 year old woman randomly beat to death at 8:30 in the morning and all the local media can report on are 2 attempted rapes in north Dallas. Unreal

@timdickey I think it would be irresponsible to name names, not knowing a thing about that person or how the car may have come into possession of the assailants. But it's seems useful to clarify the make of the car, and one of the neighborhoods it might be found.

@Allan OH I'm shocked! Imagine a yard monkey from South Dallas commiting a crime.

@um...yeah Just because we live in soul crushing cookie cutter suburbs doesn't mean we don't enjoy the mean streets of the big city.  I mean, c'mon, it's not like we have to stop and show our identity papers at checkpoints as we travel south.

@um...yeah My guess is that being Monday night, they were there for "Bad Ass Jazz".  Not surprising to me that it would draw from that far away.

@FEDUP it took less than 60 seconds for a racist to chime in under the cover of anonymity. There is officially a new record for the Speed of Stupid

um...yeah
um...yeah

@doublecheese

Plausible. Have you gone to that? Does it attract a crowd that dresses, for lack of a better term, 'wrong'? I still don't get why a girl with a $500 preppy handbag is at a dive in Expo Park.

Girls with $500 preppy handbags go there all the time, but they leave the bags at home.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @YeaCommaIWentThere Seriously?

C'mon, let's face it, *no one* "trolls" for drugs anymore.

You're an adult, living in Frisco? You probably have twelve different friends who can get you weed, and another four with chemical connections.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz @YeaCommaIWentThere People from all over go to the Amsterdam Bar on Monday nights for "Bad Ass Jazz".   Despite it's close vicinity to some bad parts of town, the immediate area of the Amsterdam bar doesn't have shady people hanging out on the corners selling drugs.  Not that I have seen, anyways.

@YeaCommaIWentThere Read it again.  It says that the Frisco resident "SAID" he was just walking around minding his own business.  Perhaps he lied?

@um...yeah @doublecheese Haven't been since one of the owners sold his soul to the devil, but it used to get a diverse crowd especially on Monday nights.  Also, Music Hall at Fair Park is across the street, so it is not all that uncommon after a show at the MH for people to stroll into Amsterdam or Meridian Room dressed up.

doublecheese

@um...yeah @doublecheese Yes, I have gone.  It attracts all kinds, and that includes people who normally wouldn't be in that area and have a clue how to not draw unwanted attention.  And no, I wouldn't go there with a $500 anything at night.
