Take a Ride on Six Flags' Texas Skyscreamer, the "Tallest Swing Ride in the World"

Six Flags
Because clearly, you can't have the world's tallest swing set without the world's tallest cowboys.
We were sad, distraught even, when Six Flags announced that it was closing the Flashback last summer. The news that it would be replaced by the 400-foot Texas Skyscreamer, and that the Skyscreamer would stand as the tallest swing ride in the world, failed to move us. No matter how tall, we thought, a swing set is still a swing set.

We've since come to terms with our loss and are ready to give the Texas Skyscreamer a second chance. The ride had its ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday. (It was really more of a ribbon-branding since the fabric was severed using a Texas-shaped branding iron.) Video of the ride is after the jump. It's missing the Flashback's stomach-churning loop, but the views are fantastic.

I didnt grow to like amusement park rides till I was 20.  I love the Titan and all the rides at Six flags, but I was deathly afraid of those damn parachutes, so I have no plans to try this thing either.  I got weak kneed just watching the video

Now I regret leaving the metroplex, and Fun Central.

I'm a wuss when it comes to amusement park rides. This ride would likely lead to cardiac arrest.

@ScottsMerkin Is it the dad in me that thinks, holy shit if my kid tried to climb out or one of those chains snapped, they're a goner. Roller coasters seem pretty tame compared to this.

@DirtyP1 I think for me, I fear what would happen if the chain broke or the support bar came undone.  Like when I go to the top floor of my office building I get queezy thinking about what would happen if the building fell.

@DirtyP1 yeah, my wife asked if it got bad if I would come home too, I said hell no, Im in a 33 story tall building with a 5 level garage below ground.  Im staying here.  She too, did not find that amusing at all

@ScottsMerkin I'm lucky in the sense that I work in a 5 story building and my office is on the 3rd floor, so I feel pretty safe.

When we had tornado warnings earlier in the week, my wife asked me if I was coming home and I said "why would I do that, my building is much safer than our house, just bring the kids here." For some reason she didn't think I was funny.
