Occupy Dallas
The men and women who gathered alongside Central Expressway this morning to protest the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Center were mostly well-behaved. They marched by peacefully by in their Jason-esque hockey masks, Guantanamo prison garb and comically oversize papier mache heads.

But then something went wrong. A Dallas policewoman tweeted a while ago that three protesters were arrested. Police have provided no other detail, but the Morning News' Scott Goldstein brings us this important piece of news:

The arrests came after papier mache Bush, papier mache Cheney, and another person reportedly refused to get out of the road and onto the sidewalk. Can't wait to see the mugshots.

Update at 2:56 p.m.: It seems the arrest was caught on video:

We should arrest more people for jaywalking.  Maybe we can cure the morons that jaywalk across a one way street facing away from traffic.  C'mon man!  Special mention goes to the trifecta winners that are texting in the process.

The right to assemble is being challenged even in the presence of a so-called "Liberal" President.  I argue that Obama has followed in the foot steps of George W. Christ.  In essence, he has aligned himself with President 43.  Now, protestors are being arrested for having a fling with "civil disobedience."  How do you like being free?

Looks like their 3rd grade art projects turned out pretty good.

Seattle had the Battle in Seattle with their protesters against the WTO.   We had the gentle shush at George Bush with these protestors.  Which probably was a good thing.  I heard that Phil Donahue even showed up in the free speech zone.

It may be the closet we ever come to seeing Bush/Cheney where they belong.  I am sure there are more than enough Dallasites that will bail them out.  And though you wouldn't know it from reading the comments here, most of the International press will be giving them a thumbs up.

.  It is good for city busines for the world to see us as *diverse.

* Excuse me for using such an inappropriate and disgusting word.

The best part about this is the road was closed. Too bad they didn't walk too far and stagger over the edge of the highway

Why does the crowd boo?  They clearly were trying to get arrested, which is why they went out in the street and refused to get back on the sidewalk.  I'm not saying there is anything wrong with trying to get arrested to make a point, but I do find it to be more than a little silly when an arrest was exactly what was desired.  I'm sure the cops looked at it like this: (1) we let them run out into the street without arresting them but wanted to get them back on the sidewalk where they can protest to the heart's content; (2) they are pushing things trying to get arrested and will keep ratcheting things up until we give them what they want; so (3) let's give them what they want before things get ugly for all involved.

They call that a rebellion, well they call it a "Standard Rebellion."  But I have seen more protesting at taco bell when someone's order takes too long and is wrong.

Getting arrested.  The ultimate badge of honor for a protester communicating his message through civil disobedience.  I don't think it counts when you have to make the police arrest you by playing in the street.  Don't these people have any ambition anymore?

Arrested for what? Public assembly? Speaking bad things on SMU property? No SAG card? Knockoff illegally imported simian costumes?

so they begged to get arrested, oh well

No, the news was the Old Man Bush wore pink polka dotted socks and we think the family might have been pulling a joke on the old man.  Then the other news was that OLDEST COW in Texas, Barbara Bush did some mooing of her own and said the world had enough Bush's.  She failed to mention that Texans have had more than our fair share of them and wish they would move to Iraq or Gitmo and waterboarding.

The other real news....Where was Dick, he partner in war mongering for profit?  Why didnt' they wheel his tired jaded heart down here?  Because even Bush can't stand him now.

@everlastingphelps @primi_timpano Being totally lame is more like it.  Where is the passion?  Still it went off well for all concerned.  The protesters got their mandatory 'we showed the man' arrest for the protest video without incurring any real charges.  Neither side had to break a sweat and most likely the charges will be dropped.

Just my ass?  That would leave you with nothing to kiss.  But know I love you with all my hear and SO.  May the Lord Bless you and keep you.

Definitely lame--I'm not much of a fan of theatrical protests--but no more lame than most every other public event.
