Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert: Beware of Islamic Terrorists "Trained to Act Hispanic"

Rep. Louie Gohmert
U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert is once again contributing to the public discourse, drawing connections between the attack during the Boston Marathon and immigration reform. On CSPAN's Washington Journal today, Gohmert, a Republican from East Texas, expressed concern over ethnicity-shifting terrorists aiming to abuse the U.S. immigration system:

"We know that Al Qaeda has camps over with the drug cartels on the other side of the Mexican border. We know that people are being trained to come in and act like they're Hispanic when they're radical Islamist."

Gohmert also compared the Boston bombing with attacks in Israel, saying: "Finally the Israeli people said this is enough. They built, over 70 percent of it is a fence and the rest is a wall to prevent snipers from knocking off their kids. They finally stopped the domestic violence from people that wanted to destroy them. I am concerned we need to do that as well."

Gohmert joins Iowa congressman Steve King, who said Tuesday that the attack in Boston is reason to put immigration reform on hold since security, not legalization, should be the national focus.

"If we can't background-check people that are coming from Saudi Arabia, how do we think we are going to background check the 11 to 20 million people that are here from who knows where?" he told the National Review. King was apparently referring to a Saudi national injured in the attack, now confirmed to be a witness and not a suspect.

The Texas Department of Public Safety in February released its latest Threat Overview. It does detail instances of terrorist travel across the border, but says nothing of known Al Qaeda-drug cartel camps.

Gohmert has a history of seeing terrorist threats where others are slow to find them. In 2010 he tried to sound the alarm about "terror babies," infants born on U.S. soil who would one day return to destroy the country.

I love Texas! I however, for self preservation sake must look seriously into relocating with amnesty for illegals. Border security pay & hour cuts. Land of Hanging Body parts and "fake" things under USA customs bridges....too much horrified. God Bless those that went down with the Alamo! I do not intend on being one of them when it comes again.  Seriously, I never dreamed that this would happen to our nation. Not stupid enough to believe propaganda saying our borders are safe. REGRETTFULLY SELLING PROPERTY AND RELOCATING.

Or Timothy McVeigh and Nichols... it only too Ronald Reagan's favorite game of "big Government" bashing 13 years, from 1980 on, to get a Federal Building Blown up. Of course it became a duet in 1987 with the entry of OxyContin "Rushs" Liberterrorism being piped across the whole country... "Fine kettle of fish, Stanley" ...apparently shot in the barrel. I am stunned by these people who have commented before me. Gohmert is a Texas US rep. Texas borders Mexico. He is very aware  of the threats that come from illegal immigration. As are all major politicians. He just doesn't play the politically correct card that is to say all immigration is fine or your a racist. He does go against the tide. Wake up and look at the world and terrorism. Read a book. Think every now and then without liberal media telling you what to think.

Could there be a merger on the horizon?  Will we have a new narco-terror cartel called "El Queso"?

This man comes off as an insane rednick hick.  Just the worst possible representative for our State.  It is a crying shame that this State doesn't have pubic figures that aren't constantly spewing ignorant hate.  It just makes the entire state ignorant.  Like Bush pretending to remove brush from his "farm".

Terrorists have posed as students and computer salesmen, why not Mexicans?  We were also told to watch out for Muslim terrorists posing as white people, or black people.  Posing as one of the dominant races of a country in order to gain access to soft targets is not a new idea.  Unless you choose to ignore the history of mankind in order to make fun of a political opponent.

Could you guys rehire Richie Whitt? His tired crap was better than this constant bombardment of 'attack the uncouth messenger' articles.

We are not supposed to worry about terrorists infiltrating the border because Gohmert brought it up?

The mentioned 'instance of terrorist travel across the border' was by a member of a group with known al Queda ties.

Discussing that incident we have this:

"Bottom line is that this case reflects the reality of how easy it is to enter the U.S. through the southern border and the fact that radical Islamic extremists have entered the nation and will continue to do so."

--Jeffrey Addicott, director of the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary’s University School of Law

Should there also be no scrutiny of F-16 sales to possibly Islamic fundamentalist swinging Egypt because Gohmert also raised that issue?

Thank you Observer, please review restaurants where Gohmert eats at when he's in Dallas so I can stealthily get near him by acting Hispanic and then quickly smear mashed potatoes or guacamole all over his face while my friend the Islamic terrorist films it on her phone, so we can youtube it! Keep up the good work! Can't wait! Will post here!

Ohhhh, if we're following the Israeli model we will build our fence on the other side of the river.  Lookee there, we're just ensuring Mexico lives by their agreements, and only by fencing them off from the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo can we fully ensure that water is delivered.  Bad country to emulate, not only is it tiny with a totally militarized state, but also the biggest violator of UN resolutions (though me most likely run a close second.)$0

@Americano

Whatever. Nobody is denying that terrorists use those types of tactics.

However, Gohmert has no idea whether or not  ". . .Al Qaeda has camps with the cartels on the other side of the Mexican border." It is pure speculation on his part, and if you have proof to the contrary, I'd like to see it, and I'm sure so would the CIA and Homeland Security, as well.

Gohmert understands full well that if he can keep his constituents in a state of panic over the idea that there is a horde of brown people that "hate us for our freedoms" just across the Rio Grande, he gets to keep his cushy job. It's just bonus points for him if he can tie them in with the scary drug cartels.

America would be better of to severe ALL ties with Israel.  We are sending 3 billions bucks a year to a country that has more human rights violations than any other.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz They haven't done hallucinogens, is their problem. A few stiff doses of LSD-25 and Gohmert would introduce legislation to make May Roky Erickson Month in Texas. It wouldn't be heaven on Earth, mind you, but it would be a far saner Texas.

I'm sure this guy is off his rocker, at least from what I've read.  The left, and the sycophant media actively hide their nuts, like the abortion murder Dr. in Philadelphia.  I like to point that out.  Thanks for jumping offsides here, it helps make my point.

RTGolden1

@TheCredibleHulk @Americano I don't know about Al Qa'eda and the cartels having links, but there has been speculation for years that Hezbollah and drug cartels have been working together in limited scopes.  I say again, Speculation.  I've never seen anything definitive on it, and the tone of articles on the subject can almost be cleanly divided between whether the publication is a conservative rag or liberal trash.

GuessWho-I-Sue

What is the diff between LSD and LSD 25?  And where can I get it and how much does it cost?

TheCredibleHulk
TheCredibleHulk topcommenter

@Americano @TheCredibleHulk

Offsides? Hardly.

I merely pointed out that Gohmert's idea about cooperation between Al Qaeda and the cartels is an unproven assertion that benefits him politically. I even acknowledged that the tactics you outlined have been used by terrorists, and we are aware of that.

What was your point, other than to defend this idiot?

TheCredibleHulk
TheCredibleHulk topcommenter

@RTGolden1 @TheCredibleHulk @Americano

Fine. Like I said, nobody is denying that those tactics are sometimes used.

Speculation is the key word, here. Productive speculation as far as Gohmert is concerned, as it keeps him employed.

He doesn't "know" any more than you or I do if there are links between Al Qaeda and the cartels.
