Citing Gay Ban, Train and Carly Rae Jepsen Pull Out of Boy Scout Jamboree

It was only a week ago that Scouting Magazine shared the exciting announcement that Train and Carly Rae Jepsen were "ready to rock" this year's National Scout Jamboree, an annual gathering of unnervingly upstanding young men. Alas, neither Train nor Jepsen will be making the trip to Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, as a protest against the Boys Scouts of America's continuing refusal to admit gay members and leaders.

The decision came in the wake of a call-to-action campaign by GLAAD and a Change.org petition by a gay Eagle Scout named Derek Nance, who claims to be a fan of both Train and Jepsen.

Deron Smith, publicity director for the BSA, responded to the decision in an email to the Associated Press. "We appreciate everyone's right to express an opinion and remain focused on delivering a great Jamboree program for our Scouts," he said. He did not say "Nobody likes Train anyway," probably because he ran out of time or something.

Maybe the Village People can step in and preform at the Jamboree.

I guess these acts were unaware of the Boy Scout's stand when they first booked to perform.  Or they have no spine.  Either way, who cares?

I wonder when she originally booked the event.  I doubt that she didn't have the same PR awareness at that time.

Follow up:  Deron Smith, publicity director for the BSA, responded to the decision in an email to the Dallas Observer "In spite of the recent Train, Jepsen clusterfuck. We are proud to announce that Judas Priest has been added to the bill. We just couldn't think of a better bastion of heterosexuality and rock then Rob Halford and his band."

I don't understand.  Isn't hiring these acts to perform a signal that BSA is embracing homosexuality?

Good for the artists and the Scouts who don't have to hear them perform. I attended the 1989 Jamboree with special guests.... wait for it.... The Jets.

@Chuck_Schick The Jets playing my High School in the late eighties.  We won a radio contest and in the end lost.
