Two State Troopers Were Indicted Friday over Painful Roadside Cavity Search of Irving Women

Helleson, left, now faces felony sexual assault charges.
Kelly Helleson will no doubt think twice before performing any roadside cavity searches on evidently law-abiding citizens. In January, the Texas Department of Public Safety fired the state trooper for her unusually thorough probe of two Irving women, a decision that severely limited her opportunities to conduct such searches.

Now, the 33-year-old faces criminal charges. CBS 11's Jack Fink broke the news on Friday that a Dallas County grand jury decided to indict Helleson for her search of Angel Dobbs and her niece Ashley on the side of the Bush Turnpike last July.

Sure enough, Dallas County records show that Helleson faces two counts of sexual assault, one for each Dobbs, and two counts of official oppression. For the former, Helleson faces at least four and as many as 40 years in prison, if convicted. Each of the latter charges carries a maximum year in jail and $4,000 fine.

Almost, but not quite, escaping censure is Trooper David Farrell, who pulled the Dobbs women over that July night and radioed for Helleson after developing a suspicion that they were carrying drugs. He's hung onto his job and faces no jail time for his actions, but he is charged with misdemeanor theft for allegedly seizing a prescription bottle of hydrocodone during a search of the car.

as any CHL holder knows, in the state of teas, deadly force may be lawfully used to stop certain violent crimes such as armed robbery, carjacking, arson, and rape. i would never advocate shooting a cop in the back, but if i caught a pair of rabid animals like them doing that shit to my mother or wife or sister..uniform or not...

Wearing a ponytail and living in Oak Cliff thru the 70,80 and 90's I have had my share of stops and searches by the ever vigilant DPD but as good luck would have it they never raped my girlfriend on the side of the freeway. So troopers learn some manners from the DPD.

She can work in the Panhandle along with the cop that prevented the Cowboy player from seeing his dying mother.  In fact, they can live together in the trailer and practice on one another.

No cap on violating someone's civil rights.

It's a good thing Trooper Helleson won the bet pot that shift, for 'getting some action during a traffic stop'.  She's going to need it.

Anyone want to guess how much mail these women got from attorneys wanting to represent them in the civil litigation surrounding this episode?  I think there may be a cap on the award for this sort of thing (I'm not an attorney, but I do play one in a particular dream I have from time to time), but I can't imagine its going to be a tough one to win.

This sad incident could only be characterized as a brutal rape perpetrated by armed thugs masquerading as peace officers. The male "police officer" should also be indicted as an accessory to the crime, just as you or I would be if we stood by and aided in such a brutal assault. Should the charge not read Aggravated Sexual Assault for both being that a theft was also perpetrated?

A prosecutor finally stands up to a cop. A red letter day.

This is rape and should be prosecuted as such.

@russell.allison1 pain and suffering can't really be gained from a gov't and gov't employees are protected from personal liability.  They really don't stand to win much.
