Attorney General Greg Abbott posted the above political ad to his Facebook page this afternoon. We present it without comment, other than to wonder if Abbott and Glenn Beck have ever been seen in the same place together. Think about it.
I personally take this to mean that families should be teaching these things to the next generation.
But maybe I just don't go out of my way to get offended/butt-hurt about stuff like this.

Aren't these the same sorts of folks that got all bent out of shape about Obama pointing out how they were clinging to their guns and religion?
Because it's not hard to see how people might get that idea from ads like this.

I didn't know Attorney General was a fucking commentary position. Enforce the laws, not your damn opinion.

In all fairness, what he says outside his office is his own business. And in reality, it's a good thing, because with a lot of these right wing extremists, the more people are exposed to their closely held beliefs, the narrower their constituency becomes.

The bible is taught in parochial schools. Whether or not it's taught should be up to the parents. I don't see why gun use and safety shouldn't be taught to students.
@Marvin Remmers In my neighborhood the kids don't need much teaching. They pretty much already know how to use guns. I've got a couple slugs in my house to prove it. But I'd recommend the Bible part.

I'm about the same age as Abbott, and pretty sure I had similar upbringing, middle class WASP beaver cleaver type stuff. Public schools taught reading and writing and arithmetic and did it pretty well long ago. that's what schools need to focus on again, not his BS agenda.

The bible shouldn't be taught in schools...that's personal...neither should learning how to fire a weapon...so I'm confused about this ad...

Another thing every American should know how to use is some critical thinking, which of course is no longer taught in schools either.

There's a third thing here that schools don't teach: common sense. You know, like having the common sense to make it look like the the gun is not aimed right at The Bible.

@nathan_mclain Personally, I don't think a day at the range is complete without pumping a few rounds through a Bible. Some of those bastards can get pretty thick.
@monstruss @nathan_mclain a good thick Bible can make firing your gun in your own home fairly safe, if you put the Bible in the fireplace. Have a good friend who got in trouble doing this. His parents begged him to use the phone book next time. When we were in college, his dad got in trouble for shooting out of their condo above Town Lake in Austin. His dad could flip three quarters in the air and pop all three.

Schools teach kids how to properly use the Bible - they teach them to read quietly to themselves and keep their mouths shut.
@Daniel @observist With the possible exception of Buddhism, religion seems to have the specific intent of mind-closing.
Here is the rulebook.
Rule #1 - Don't read any other rulebooks.
Rule #2 - Don't look at other pictures or watch movies.
Rule #3 - Don't say anything bad about the author.
Rule #4 - Spend at least one day a week reading the book.
Rule #5 - Obey the people who gave you the book.
Rules #6-10. Oh, and you shouldn't murder, cheat, steal, lie or covet. But make sure you follow rules 1-5 first.

I know that Mr. Abbott's office hasn't been much interested in enforcing child support payments. Not flashy enough, I guess. Screw the single moms.
