It's clear to me that some of the fools writing on this blog need to go back to school and learn English. This gangster B.S. is getting out of hand. The man was shot because he is an idiot and now his problems are over. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the fools in this city.

This was my cousin. He lived in the fast lane, doing the wrong thang. He finally got caught up. The ole man had every right to protect his property, my only issue is what da hell happened to warning shots? But I wasn't there to know or see how this may or may have not affected the victim emotionally so it is what it is. His father, who had worked for DART for almost 30 years passed away 3 years ago. No, he was not in the pen or a criminal for those of you that commented on the father issue. His mother did the best she could do with him. All of us have a choice to make. Deyfon was a grown ass man, chose his own life style. May he RIP.

Warning shots will get you a ticket or incarceration for discharge of a firearm within city limits. Double tap to the chest or head is a better solution for the homeowner...and society in general. Too bad you can't sterilize criminals before they have a chance to bring another (future criminal) into the world. My apologies to the surviving family, but it rings true.

sorry for your family's loss jackie, i must say its refreshing to see someone from his family acknowledge that he was doing the wrong "thang". and that it was his "choice". But using that same mentality. isnt a warning shot the "choice" of the homeowner he is threatening? and are warning shots something new? seems like a courtesy thing and to tell you the truth im not sure a burglar deserves the courtesy he didnt offer the homeowner by telling him he was going to break into his house.

I thought the DPD officer questioned on camera by Fox4 last night did a very good job of explaining the Castle Doctrine. He slipped it into his explanation of the incident. Almost like he sensed there were citizens unaware of its existence.

Just as there are millions of guns which cause no problems each day, there are millions of African Americans who cause no problems. Your suggestion was posed many times as justification for the Jim Crow laws this country had many years ago.

Maybe you are just a troll or are just trying to make an obnoxious point, however all it does is add to the you or me mentality. Does the African America community have some issues or at least some perceptions which must be dealt with. Probably so. But can't the same be said for the gun community.

Just remember to shoot straight, and double tap for good measure. Otherwise you end up being liable for preventing the felon from a legitimate job, homeowner's insurance usually kicks in but the wrong judge and jury may want to seize assets....its harder to be legally liable when the felon has been removed from the "workforce"...

This is regretably the the truth phil, if you shoot someone in your house you had better kill them. in criminal court you will be vindicated by the castle law...but in CIVIL court you will be sued by the suspect or their surviving relatives. and there is NO QUESTION in my mind that this elderly gentleman will be sued in civil court by the family that failed so miserably raising this "vull na bull". 33 yr old Mr. pipkin knew full well that A) what he was doing was against the law and B) there was a better than 50-50 chance (especially in TX) that he would encounter someone who didnt appreciate him breaking into their house (someone who is validated by law to kill someone threatening them in their own home)

If you haven't already started noticing a missing peice of the narrative on stories such as this: we have a statement from mom and the sister...what about a father? Didn't see one referenced in the article. At some point I do wish that someone in the mainstream media would pick up on the "absent-father" thread that I would bet is present in almost all occurences of crime and begin to throw a great big spotlight on that issue. Instead, we get sidetracked by guns and race.

The really sad part about is the apathy and acceptance of this kind of behavior. When everyone knows that you are a criminal and there appears to be little stigma involved in that label. Fox4 this morning reported a little more on the mother's reaction to the incident and basically she said that the shooter should have given her son a second chance. I'm not saying she was proud or even condoned her son's behavior, rather she had accepted it as his job.

As far as 2nd chances; that's like saying give the guy a chance to go home and get his gun so he can use it on the homeowner. I'm not going to tell the robber to "go on now, this is your second chance."
