Two Rifles and a Shotgun Were Stolen Yesterday From an SUV Parked Off Lower Greenville

Categories: Crime

A Remington 1100 shotgun.
At noon yesterday, Jay Bailey parked his 2011 Chevrolet SUV in the lot behind the Blue Goose Cantina on Greenville Avenue and went to lunch.

When he returned an hour later, he found that the lot had been targeted by a vehicle burglar. The rear window of an SUV parked nearby had been smashed, and the owner's laptop and briefcase were gone.

Bailey's window had also been broken, and the thief had stolen his laptop and brief case as well. But Bailey, a commercial real estate broker, was missing a few more things, namely a Remington 1100 shotgun, a Remington 243 rifle, and a Winchester .22 rifle.

I've emailed Bailey about the theft and will update when and if I hear back.

Hey now, the poor need their right to arms too. How else are they going to fulfill their rights. I don't  see any gun charities for the poor.

I have no issue with Jay Bailey's right to purchase these guns. From what I know Jay Bailey is not a criminal and has no history of mental illness. (disclaimer, I have actually met Jay Bailey).

Should these stolen weapons be used in a crime, or someone is injured by these stolen weapons, there should be a penalty applied to Jay Bailey for his failure to secure the guns. The owner of a firearm who fails to secure the weapon should be liable for the use of the stolen weapon.

I'm sure that responsible gun owner had no choice but to leave those guns in a place where car break-ins happen every day.  poor guy.

Items were stolen out of a vehicle in Dallas! Who would believe it? Takes cake for non-news of the year, so far.

His briefcase and laptop were so important Eric needed to mention them twice in two sentences.

And no sympathy to anyone who leaves a laptop in plan sight in their unoccupied vehicle. You're asking for a break in that way.

I'd issue a BOLO and Amber Alert for missing ducks, deer and rabbits.

I'll be cursed at again for commenting on gun madness, but this is a perfect example of how legally obtained weapons fall into the hands of loonies with killing people on their minds, and why guns should be available only to law enforcement and the military.

@holmantx Deer and Duck seasons are already closed in most of the state. But there is no regulated season on rabbits.

Be very very quiet... it's wabbit season.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Civilian guns have killed thousands, most of whom were involved in illegal behavior/activities.  Government guns have killed at least 200 million INNOCENT citizens.  Better apply some logic there, because the first thing done to those 200 million was to take their ability to defend themselves.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz - haven't you naive Observer readers figured out that "Myrna" is a conservative troll, meant to make liberals look stupid?

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz  Myrna, were you here when Bush won the Gov. against Ann Richards?  I was against the concealed carry that Bush was running on.  However, I have to admit that my fears didn't bear out.  What about you?  Were you here?  Do you remember?  Can you explain why there wasn't a marked increase in yahoos brandishing weapons and using their guns irresponsibly?

You realize that you're here against choice and freedom.  If the issue were abortion or drugs, your very argument that you use here would maintain the drug war, and limit abortion.  Personally, I think guns, abortion and drugs should all be legal.  It's not nice, or ideal, though the fact is that we won't ever eradicate these things; we're better off admitting that fact and controlling the consequences.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz You also probably believe in the Disneyesque world where all animals in the wild live together in loving peace and harmony. Where Mother Nature would never let drought and overpopulation cause horrible deaths by starvation.

These were hunting and sporting guns.

England has had very strict regulations on private ownership of sporting weapons for a long time. It works so well that crimes involving guns has gone up exponentially in the past twenty years.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz

You are a hypocrite of the first order. Anytime a story comes up that even mentions a cop you jump on your idiot soap box and claim that cops are murdering jackbooted thugs. Then here you claim they should be the only ones with guns.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz NOW NOW, no one stole those weapons! But; according to 'shit fer brains' like yourself, they jumped up out of the back of the vehicle, broke the window and hopped  off to commit a murder. After commiting a murder they'll hop into some piece of shits domain hide in a closet till the heat blows off.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz“Now, there are contributing factors that are not under anyone’s control and may seem odd but it is factually true. One of them is actually the weather. @NewsDog Each time a libtard asks for 'proof', be assured they have already decided to reject it without offering a shred of opposing proof.

As you asked of NewsDog, proof?

Or is anyone who doesn't hold your viewpoint biased?

One is an American criminologist and lawyer, the other a Canadian criminologist and college professor. The report was published by Harvard (a pretty liberal institution). Others have come up with the same findings but their results were questioned because of their biases (John Lott is one example).  I can find nothing that shows any basis for such bias from these authors.

@russp WOW a completely unbiased report written by two gentlemen with no ties whatsoever to the gun industry...........
