Someone Stole a Rubber Fetus From an Anti-Abortion Protest. The Catholic Pro-Life Committee Is Not Amused.

It's not uncommon, if you happen to be passing the intersection of Greenville Avenue and Royal Lane, to be confronted by very large, very graphic photographs of aborted fetuses. The corner is a favored hangout of anti-abortion protesters, presumably in support of the White Rose Women's Center, which offers counseling and says on its website that the procedure is linked to "depression, lowered self-esteem, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, and even suicide."

That's where volunteers from the Catholic Pro-Life Committee were camped out yesterday afternoon when one passerby decided they'd had enough.

According to a police report, one of the protesters watched as a black Jeep pulled up to the corner just before 1 p.m. The passenger stepped out, grabbed a $300 rubber fetus that was on display on the sidewalk, and got back in the car, which drove off.

The volunteer called police, telling officers that no one had been given permission to take the model, which belongs to the CPLC.

The police report doesn't detail what type of fetus was stolen. It could be the Touch of Life 12-30 week model, (now available in ethnic!), though the price point suggests it could be the in-the-womb-model.

Either way, CPLC would like its fetus back.

Theft isn't okay, but you have to admit its a bit funny.

I wish these people understood that them standing outside like that doesn't change anything. It just traumatizes her even further!

The protesters and the like are also ones who cause "depression, lowered self-esteem, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, and even suicide." when they try to make you out to be an evil monster.

See?! Can't turn your back on a child for a second or they will disappear. And on a street corner as well?! Irresponsible parents...

If I had the money, I'd make a 300 dollar donation to Planned Parenthood in their name. Also, I clicked on the link to their website. "Having an abortion can be an emotionally traumatizing experience." I'm sure having a bunch of bible-pounding bullies screaming in your face as you try to get into the building lessens the trauma SO much.

Is it really theft if a piece of plastic is on a street corner and you pick it up?

It wasn't me, I was at the gym! Whoever did this...say two Acts of Contrition and give a donation to Mattel!

These people need jobs. If they can afford a $300- fetus and are not at work at 1pm on a Thursday then I'd say something is wrong with this picture. Oh wait.. Something definitely is.

Also terrible parents cause "depression, lowered self-esteem, sexual dysfunction, substance abuse, and even suicide"

In all seriousness, disagreement does not make theft ok.....but still kinda funny.....now give it back.

I think we need to discuss the legalities of the issue and whether or not the model represented actual human life or not....it depends if it's part of a lawsuit where the Catholic Church stands to lose money....

The protesters are in front of the Southwestern Women's Surgery Center. I know because I have to pass by that 70 yr old dude with the fake fetus every day on the way to work.

If life starts at conception, wouldn't a naked fetus, in fact, be child pornography?  Perhaps the thief was offended that perverts were feverously lusting after the naked child sitting outside for everyone to view.  I do not support the portrayal of naked babies as sexual objects as this Pro-Life group was protesting.

Well, my previous post was deleted, so here is a reasonable repeat ...

I just like the snarky write up on the subject when one group is exercising their 1st Amendment rights.

I wonder how the story would be written if props from a pro abortion rally were stolen.

And isn't the fact that the "ethnic" version is available a sign of diversity which is so highly valued by certain segments of our society.

I don't see us pro choicers pushing our beliefs on pro lifers and I"m Catholic. I get fed up with their judgmental crap on the streets as well yet we're UNChristian? WHAT A JOKE.

Pro-lifers should necessarily be against guns, war, animal abuse, and capital punishment.  One would think so, but....

Thee poor person who had had enough, I wonder what plans he/she has for the unwanted rubber tissue that drove them to such a desperate act. Will the likeness be thrown out the car window? Disposed of in household trash? Tossed ceremonially in a dumpster behind a pro-choice clinic?

Or will it be kept in a drawer, to be shown to like-minded visitors like a prize, and a reminder of what happens when those who champion choice are driven to bold acts by the wrongful choices of others?

@ThePosterFormerlyKnownasPaul It wasn't really that snarky, all things considered. There is literally nothing in the article that suggests they shouldn't be doing what they're doing.

Also, "pro abortion rallies" aren't a thing.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Myrna, you really do need to get away from those cats and start paying attention. The pro-life Catholic Church has been against the death penalty for quite a while now. Nobody has spoken out against war more often than the Pope. Except maybe he previous Pope.

@bmarvel Yeah, but the catholic church promotes homosexual pedophelia, so that offsets everything else good they may ever do!

Myrna.Minkoff-Katz

@bmarvel You're speaking of the hierarchy, not the vast laity all over the planet.  And I never mentioned the Catholic Church, did I?

bmarvel
bmarvel topcommenter

@director21 As I said, you seem to have made up your mind. And this is not the place to argue theology.

But while the Nazis rounded up Jews and other "undesirables" openly and made no secret of their policy, abuse by priests was carried on in deepest secrecy. And while some of the hierarchy aided that secrecy, I can assure you that as the laity learned what was going on they were anything but silent. In fact they have raised holy hell.

director21
director21

@bmarvel @director21 Here is what I am forced to believe: In NAZI Germany the people did not have a problem with what Hitler was doing to the rest of the world until the bombs started falling on them and their cities. In the catholic church the members have stood by silently while the priests, bishops and popes have not only practiced homosexual pedophelia, but covered it up and not reported it to law enforcement.

The silence of the lay catholic membership is just as guilty as the clergy. This could have been stopped long ago if people just quit supporting the church until it cleaned up its act. But, it has always been a dirty organization predicated upon a false doctorine that claimed Jesus was something he never was. The church exists for one and only one reason - control of power and money.

@director21 I'm surprised, director21. Your posts are usually very thoughtful. I don't imagine anything I would say here will budge you from what you clearly want to believe.

I hope in a moment of calm you'll re-think your response. In the meantime, nobody is angrier at the Church for the actions and inaction of some of our clergy and hierarchy than us ordinary Catholics. I would imagine ordinary Boy Scouts, a lot of ordinary college athletes and a lot of ordinary public school students feel the same way.

bmarvel
bmarvel topcommenter

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Myrna, you're a wonderful example of how those on the left can be every bit as narrow and nutty as their supposed opponents on the right. Your first mistake -- although you attempted to hide it behind irony --  was in assuming that "pro-lifers" are all of a kind -- pro-gun pro-war, pro-animal abuse, pro-death penalty.

But this is manifestly untrue, Myrna. It's one of those ugly stereotypes that you on the left are so quick to condemn when you hear them from the right. I know of at least one very large group of "pro-lifers" who would not fall into this stereotype. And I'm speaking not of the hierarchy but of the ordinary church-going Catholics who sit in the same pew as i sit Sunday after Sunday.

But this really isn't about Catholics, Myrna. It's about the mindless kind of back-and-forth that goes on here day after day between those who style themselves "conservative" and their mirror images, those like yourself who somehow imagine that they are "liberal" or "progressive." It's about the stereotyping that goes on, preventing either side from listening to or speaking to the other, from seeing the other side clearly, from seeing the larger picture clearly. From ever learning anything.

Thanks again for proving that it isn't just the political right that distorts, that twists arguments all out of shape. Libtard or Neanderthal, you're like the coyote and the roadrunner. You need each other.
