Johnny Manziel Was Guzzling Dom Perignon at a Dallas Club on Saturday Night

On Friday night, Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel was picking apart Oklahoma's defense en route to an impressively lopsided 41-13 victory in the Cotton Bowl. On Saturday, he went out to celebrate.

TMZ posted pictures of the Heisman Trophy winner partying at Dallas' Avenu Lounge, all the while clutching an open bottle of Dom Perignon. TMZ, and others who have since picked up the story, quickly noted that the legal drinking age is 21, whereas Manziel, a red-shirt freshman, is only 20.

According to a wire report in the Morning News, "he posted a photo to Twitter of himself holding a handful of cash with the caption, "casino ballin," then followed up with "Nothing illegal about being 18+ in a casino and winning money...KEEP HATING!"

This has prompted a mild amount of tut-tutting, but c'mon: Manziel, a college kid who just capped off what is possibly the most impressive football season ever by a freshman. The man deserves a drink. Surely, though, the NCAA has already launched a large-scale investigation into how Manziel got his hands on such pricey bubbly. One has to protect the integrity of the amateur game, after all.

Manziel was mildly apologetic. "It's tough knowing that everything you do is watched pretty closely, because I'm doing the same stuff I've always done," he said on Sunday. "It's just now people actually care what I do."

At least the kid's got a good head on his shoulders and realizes that his mistake wasn't in drinking underage, per se, but doing so in a very public way. Next time, he'll know to celebrate a bit more discreetly.

I understand the drinking laws and everything, but I do have a question. If it was not Johnny Manziel, but your spare 18 -20 yr old, would the club have let them in?

Nothing he did was illegal.  His dad was with him and his family is loaded.

Get a life and leave the man alone, haters!

As a staunch Longhorn I say this: If my boy had just won the heisman and whooped the okies in the cotton bowl as a freshman, there would be a couple of hookers in that pic also (at my expense) in addition to the dom. Let that kid blow off some steam, especially with his family. Who gives a shit - this is a perfect controversy for Dallas types. Oh noes, its awful to do this year but next year it will be just fine!

Do y'all know the difference between "clutching" and "guzzling"?

As is reported other places a young college age kid can obtain a bottle of Dom because his parents are fucking loaded.  Same reason he wears a rolex and gets floor seats to a Mavs and a Rockets game.  Also, it was reported that his father was at the location where he had the dom in his hands, so if his pappy bought it for him, whats the problem?  does it look good for his public image...no...but all these mother fuckers on their high horses may have forgotten about the first time they drank underage too huh.  And why the Fuck am I defending an Aggie, fuck them, Rock Chalk mother fuckers.  Gooddaytoya

Let the Protestant Progressive outrage commence. Can't we just ban this shit, it's poisoning our utes.

A role model he is not.  He was arrested last summer for disorderly conduct and two other misdemeanors.  He seems to be headed down the same criminal path a lot of football players seem to be going.

Good to see A&M fully embrace the SEC. Got to give those star QBs whatever they want - cash, booze, a church for their daddy...

@txfooz His father was with him Friday night when he got shit-faced.  His father was not at the club again on Saturday night when he got shit-faced.

@ScottsMerkin You're absolutely right.  Big effing deal, especially if Daddy is on the premises.

That said, this kid likes expensive things and likely has people offering them to him left and right.  I look forward to the inevitable NCAA investigation at A&M.  The schadenfreude will be glorious.

@ScottsMerkin -

My under-age son used to clutch and guzzle beers at Stars games in my presence.

@GuitarPlayer Personally, I don't care how shit-faced he gets.. as long as he doesn't get behind the wheel of a car, crashes, and kills someone.

@MushMouth1 Agreed, nothing like that ever happened in the Southwest Conference or Big 12.  Excellent point.

@Dub919 @ScottsMerkin

Why would he be more likely to take payouts if his parents are already loaded? Makes no sense.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Indeed.  There is nothing more honorable than destroying the lives of working Americans in the name of profit maximization.

@_mm_ @MushMouth1I would rather see him embrace the SEC with a drink then embrace the big 12 with rape charges like the texas players.

@Dub919 @drtz

Agreed!  You didn't say he was 'more likely' -- you implied it.  Go back to sipping your tea.

@drtz I never said he was "more likely".  Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, I guess.

The temptation is there for all college players.  However, Johnny Football's newfound stardom, combined with his seemingly "too-comfortable" stance on social media, will lead to investigations even if he doesn't accept anything from boosters.

@Dub919 @Myrna.Minkoff-Katz

Not to mention all the jobs and wealth he created. And Obama has managed to keep unemployment above 7 percent and he has his own private kill list to boot. It's a toss-up who is the better role model

Things are soooo complicated!

@MushMouth1 @sja7792 @_mm_  I agree, but this has nothing to do with corruption in college sports.  It's a 20 year old man celebrating with consent of his father, over one of, if not the greatest freshman QB year ever.

@sja7792 @_mm_ @MushMouth1 My my aren't we touchy this morning. All college sports are corrupt. Hell if Miami or Penn State didn't get the death penalty no school will. The rules of the NCAA are a joke,might as well do away with all those "amateur" rules and just be honest and declare open season.
