In Far North Dallas, a Burglar Was Shot Dead While Trying to Steal a Half Pound of Weed

McCallum Corners
Just after 8 p.m. yesterday, two men crept into Apartment 318 at McCallum Corners, a no-frills complex off Coit Road near the George Bush Turnpike. Police say they were after the half pound of marijuana inside, and quite possibly the $2,000 cash that was stuffed inside a purple bag inside a drawer as well.

At least one of the men was packing, carrying a semi-automatic pistol. It did him no good. The apartment resident was armed, too, and shot the 36 year-old several times in the upper body before he could return fire. The burglar, who police have requested not be identified pending notification of his next of kin, died. His accomplice ran away.

Police didn't arrest the shooter but say they plan to forward the case to a grand jury to determine whether to file charges. The weed and cash were seized and taken to DPD's property room.

You know, he'd be better off had he either only winged the dude or gotten ripped off.  You think the charges for the drugs won't cost $4000?  He didn't come out ahead for defending himself.

The obvious solution--stricter gun control laws and free weed for the masses.

I'm surprised that you naive white-guilter "journalists" at the Observer have completely failed to mention the shooting at The Bridge, the homeless shithole, oops I mean shelter, downtown. Oh wait I'm actually not surprised at all.

The Robber died because Robbers don't have GOD in their lives .

The Robber Died because God hates Fags

The Robber Died because God is punishing him for  Unborn Babies that have been aborted .

The Robber Died because God is upset because America has turned its back on him .

The Robber Died because he didn't say a prayer before the Robbery .....

Well I just thought I would try this here.

He had a gun on him and he still got shot.  Clearly just having a gun isn't protection enough - people shouldn't just carry guns, they should walk around with their guns drawn at all times.  It's the only way we can all truly be safe.

Sounds as if the resident might be a drug dealer.  Chances are the invaders knew it and should have known he owned a gun.  If so, they invaded the home anyway.

@rusknative If it were legal, an incident like this would never happen because the weed would be practically worthless and therefore not worth stealing.

@scottindallas Didn't come out ahead? What makes you so sure the guy who got killed wouldn't have killed him instead? I don't really care because drug dealers should all be killed-- but your presumptions are incredibly naive.

@schutzenaivewhitegui

amusing factoid - you hate everything about the DO yet you visit the site 100's of times daily, thereby driving their "hits" off the chart, thereby increasing their ad revenue. The DO thanks you. Now cinch up your tin foil and carry on.

@observist If you are a criminal and carry a gun, you are carrying that gun to put yourself into bad situations where you know you have a chance of being shot.  Being armed doesn't guarantee your safety.  It gives you a fighting chance.  The armed homeowner or apartment dweller has the advantage if he hears you coming in.

Besides that, the victim was armed, and it saved his life...seeing as how the criminal was (and they always will be) armed.  The armed citizen wins again.  Maybe he should have just called 911...HAHAHAHA!!!

@observist Maybe Google'll team up with Smith and Wesson to create a wearable six shooter that virtually scans your surroundings and automatically aims and fires at the first sign of trouble.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Thug life. If they knew he had half a pound of weed and $2,000 in a "purple bag" hidden in a dresser I'm pretty sure they knew he had a gun. Plus, there is a strong possibility everybody knew each other. The perp lost.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz The kind of drug dealer who traffics in half-pounds of weed is not necessarily, or even likely, armed.  Half  the people in this comment section have been in the same room as a half-pound of weed.

@Lakewooder like I give a shit about their revenue. They should be thanking me in that case!

I just enjoy yanking the chains of naive white-guilters like you.

@cheeseburger @observist The armed criminal with his gun drawn won against the armed criminal without his gun drawn.  The most aggressive shooter won, so clearly we all need more gun aggression in order to be safer, right?

@Daniel @Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Maybe the half pound was the remainder of a 20-ton load. 8 ounces an 2K seems small change to risk life, maybe the perp was just had poor timing, or maybe he had was just after the big-screen, maybe he was a terrorist, who knows?

@keepcensoringDO @scottindallas You're such a dimwitted moron.  You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground you mental midget.  Your bigotry and pathological psychology make you incapable of objectively analyzing anything.

Right, it's Taliban that's trying to give women the right to choose abortion, ban guns and create a gov't welfare program.  You fucking dimwit, you think their using the money of their invaders and occupiers to buy weapons to repel that occupation is "liberal?"  That's not a partisan issue, again you've conflated dissimilar ideas, and are too fucking ignorant and stupid to realize it.

See, one can engage in ad hominem and not leave without making arguments.  In fact, when one SHOWS their debate adversary to be a bigoted, ignorant fool, then you've done something.  The pathetic taste in your mouth isn't shared when you throw your hackneyed epithets at us.  Again, you're too stupid, too insular, too ignorant to realize it.

keepcensoringDO

@scottindallas @keepcensoringDO The Taliban was taking US dollars to buy RPGs while claiming they were destroying poppy fields but still selling the dope.

The Taliban shares more with the left than the right. So yes-- anyone with a modicum of morality would come out on the right of them.

Yup, and even though I stopped replying to his puerile posts months ago he still really thinks he's knocking zingers out the park every time he types "horse fucker." The amount he thinks about bestiality can only mean one thing:

@observist @cheeseburger There was only one criminal in this situation.  The burglar.  The victim's illegal possession of marijuana is irrelevant to the burglary, even if the marijuana was the target.  I don't know why you think he has forfeited his right to defend his home.

schutzenaivewhitegui
schutzenaivewhitegui

@Scruffygeist - that's why I'm pro-abortion. Abortion kills tens of thousands of otherwise future black criminals every single year. Imagine how shitty and crime-ridden America would be if all those blacks had been born! Thank the non-existent god for legal abortions, they should be free, especially for blacks.

Scruffygeist

@observist There's actually also a much stronger link between the long-term drop in violent crime and Roe vs. Wade than gun ownership.

ruddski
ruddski

@observist @ruddski @Montemalone

But then again, more states now have shall-issue or carry laws.

Maybe it really doesn't have anything to do with legal gun ownership or permits after all, maybe it's really about people, and maybe we can solve the problem by throwing money at it and putting even more laws on the books.

Maybe what we really need is a blue-ribbon committee.

@ruddski @Montemalone @observist   Acutally Google will show you that gun ownership was essentially flat from 1993 to 2011 when there was a one-year uptick, while crime fell significantly the entire time.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/150353/self-reported-gun-ownership-highest-1993.aspx

If there's a correlation on a national level, it's a weak one showing that gun ownership has generally declined with the crime rate, which peaked in 1993.  (There's a much stronger correlation between internet usage and crime rate decline, but most people aren't so silly as to assume causation.)

The longer-term trend from the 1970's to today shows a marked decline in gun ownership.

@keepcensoringDO @Daniel @Myrna.Minkoff-Katz It's a myth. You're right, if I'm honest with myself. The guy with the Weird Al Yankovic haircut on wing 3D of Bruce Hall in 1988 was a human monster -- an inhuman monster, more like: He listened to Joe's Garage on endless loop and once actually opined that Mars Hotel was the Dead's best album.

His later life reads like a catalog of sordid ruin: has an upper-middle management job in IT, is married to someone foreign-born also in the IT field, and plays flamenco guitar at trendy Houston restaurants on the weekends. At the time I ran into him, I must say his breath stunk of garlic. This ain't no Gentleman Jim we're talking about here!
