These gentlemen are very happy with their shoe purchase.

If you haven't been keeping up with the sneaker industry recently, you probably didn't know that today was one of the red-letter days on the calendar, when the new Air Jordan XI Retro "Breds" were set to be released. Several hundred were quite aware and showed up early this morning at the Shoe Palace in Hulen Mall.

Then, apparently, all hell broke loose.

Sgt. Pedro Criado with the Fort Worth PD confirmed that officers had been called to the mall to help quell an unruly crowd that had lined up before the store opened. As for the claim that 400 people were pepper sprayed, he was skeptical. "I don't know about that."

Criado said a captain is on scene gathering information. So is NBC 5, in force.

Update at 12:13 p.m.: Here's some video from WFAA.

Just looks like people anxious to get into the mall. I've seen much rowdier crowds at every metal show I've ever been to, no pepper spray was ever unleashed upon us...

My old boss who manages the Zales there said that pushing and shoving happened to the point of people being pepper sprayed but that's it.

Maybe they thought Obama was giving them away.

Any reports of pepper spray used for Black Friday crowds?

You know, most towns don't even allow people to be out on the streets anymore (no more 'drags', or 'hanging out', etc)...supposedly do to quelling bad behavior. (IMO, really restrictive to feeling free and having fun...my home town at night used to be bouncing, but now you go and see nothing. anyway....) So, there really shouldn't be commercial exceptions made to 'just hanging out' because a particular product is being released. Let 'em loose online first, so people can just order them in. Quit the line-ups for in-store craze-inducing specials.

So was there a Riot or not? I hit the link and didn't see anything about a riot, or much about pepper spray either.

Entertaining to see people work so hard to prove a
stereotype.

Doesn't say good things about people that would get so excited about paying $185 for athletic shoes.  I wonder how much these people have paid for a book or study aid in order to do well in school - probably not much.  Talk about screwed up priorities.

Who could guess that a large gathering of materialistic blacks with a lack of moral values would devolve into violence?

$185 for a pair of sneakers, you got to be kidding me.  As for the Chinese selling them for $17.58, who do you think is making them anyway?

You can buy sneakers with SNAP cards? They should have used fire hoses.

A riot caused by sneakers?  Amazing... it's not like they're Beanie Babies or something.

I think I could find something better to do with $185.
