The Former Cop Who Stole $250,000 from CrimeStoppers Will Spend 42 Months in Prison
Theadora Ross asked for leniency. The former senior corporal with Dallas PD, who pleaded guilty in August to stealing $250,000 in would-be reward money from the Dallas Crime Stoppers program she oversaw, argued in a court filing that prison would be too hard on her daughter, who has Down Syndrome.

"Mere words cannot express how devastating it would be to [the girl] to lose her mother for even a short period of time," she wrote, according to the Morning News. The girl "has never had to face a time without her mother. She is not equipped, mentally or physically, to deal with such a loss."
But maybe Ross should have considered that before she stole a whole lot of money that was intended to help solve serious crimes. U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey thought so at least. He sentenced her to 46 months in federal prison, according to a news release sent this morning by the U.S. Attorney's Office. She'll also have to repay CrimeStoppers $274,304 in restitution. Her stint in the pen starts January 14.
And the DMN's Scott Goldstein adds this interesting little nugget from sentencing:
It was noted at sentencing that Ross still collects a city pension because she was allowed to resign from the Dallas Police Department.
