The Eagle Gun Range in Lewisville is Reconsidering its "Santa and His AR-15" Photo Shoot

Nothing creepy about this at all.
In what no doubt seemed like a wonderful idea at the time, Lewisville's Eagle Gun Range announced last Wednesday that Santa would be paying a visit, and he'd be "bringing his favorite toys to share in the Christmas photos -- his AR-15 and other firearms of choice."

"Come get your picture taken with Santa and His AR-15!" the announcement continued. "Both adults and kids are welcome to choose from a variety of ornaments -- from handguns, BB-guns, 22-Rifles to modified AR15's -- then sit on Santa's lap and tell him what you want for Christmas and even take your own photo with him at no cost! Then feel free to stay and try out some of Santa's toys on the range!"

That was, of course, two days before a gunman wielding an AR-15 slaughtered 20 first-graders at a Connecticut elementary school. Suddenly, arming Santa Clause with military-grade weapons and having him pose with small children no longer seemed tasteful.

So, citing only "last week's event," the gun range decided to cancel St. Nick's Friday appearance. One assumes, given that the cancellation notice was sent yesterday afternoon, that the event scheduled for this past Saturday, the day after the Sandy Hook attack, went forward as planned.

No doubt the news broke the heart of many parents who want their kids to associate Christmas with heavily armed, strangely dressed sociopaths. For that, there's always Weird Al's "The Night Santa Went Crazy."

Just cordon off all the NRA members in a big, freakin' field somewhere in Alabama, Arizona or Mississippi, provide them with millions of rounds of ammo and let the asinine fools kill each other.

Maybe that will satisfy their bloodlust. We will certainly have less of the fools incessantly whining about their precious 'rights' and our children can sleep at night.

Given what passes for journalism, and the effects of such bias on a low-information public, maybe we should also consider some restrictions on the 1st Amendment too.

and no more gun videos.

or Hollywood glorification of guns.

for the chillerns 'n all don't you know . . .

I wonder what the reaction would be if in the picture yje people were of darker skin and wore different mideastern clothes? Do we live in a great country?

Why do people purport to keep guns?  To protect themselves and their homes against invaders.  Who are they posing with?  The most prolific home invader in the history of humanity.

"Suddenly, arming Santa Clause with military-grade weapons and having him pose with small children no longer seemed tasteful." - Has there ever been anything tasteful about this? Great article complete with witty humor. I'm all for the right to bare arms, but assault rifles and other military-grade weapons just aren't necessary.

Agreed, Eric.  Nothing creepy about this at all.

Dude in black appears to be holding an M-203 which is usually attached to an M-16/AR-15/M4.  I am not an expert in these things so take with whatever sized grain of salt you deem necessary.

I don't see a single AR15 in the photo

@KylePettimore

And this is the trend now.  For the supposedly (in their own eyes) morally superior anti-gun folks to vent rage and hatred at those whose opinions differ from their own.

@KylePettimore Strange how it seems to be the negro not the NRA member that are killing each other. Thankfully they are mostly cordoned off into subsidized housing already.

@holmantx Right, because anyone who wants to ban (or further restrict) assault rifles "for the children" is being disingenuous and hackneyed.

You know, Holman, I'm not even sure the people of Newtown have laid all the little coffins in the ground yet. But hey, at least you gave DOCensors a chuckle.

@holmantx  So in your mind, a week is a long enough wait for you to resume joking about shooting children?  Stay classy Holman.

@observist Look, up in the sky! Is that a sleigh and reindeer?

Who cares, just shoot it!

@DOCensors You wouldn't because the event was canceled. The pic is a photo of the Scottsdale Gun Club. Easier to comment before reading what you are commenting on?

@DOCensors Eric didn't say an AR15 appears in the photo, so what's your point? Oh yeah, you don't have one. Shocking.

@ScottsMerkin 'cause they think there's no better way to celebrate the birth of our Lord and savior than having Santa surrounded by weapons of death and destruction!

@ScottsMerkin @GuitarPlayer OK, I'll answer......because only an idiot would equate Christmas and Santa with fucking huge assault rifles. Jesus H Christmas son, I really didn't think I would have to explain it to you but I guess it will have to be your gift. Happy Holidays.

@GuitarPlayer I would say yes you really have to answer that, but then I have a pretty solid idea of what you will say so ill let it be.  merry Christmas

Your lord and savior, not mine.  I bow to no myth and the only thing Jesus was saving anyone from was his own father/alternate personality.

And the Pagan construction of Santa Clause is hardly a religious icon anyhow.
