Texas Nationalist Movement Would Like to Secede Now, Please

Everyone has their own way of coping with or celebrating the results of last night's election. For his part, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott doesn't appear to have made good on his threat to arrest any European election monitors (who are, by the way, due to give a news conference in Washington tomorrow detailing their findings). Instead, Abbott responded to President Obama's re-election by releasing a brief statement this morning via Facebook. It reads, in full:
Texas remains one of the reddest states in the country and is the last bastion of conservatism. Now more than ever Texas must lead the nation! I'll continue to fight every day against an overreaching federal government to protect the liberties that Texans hold so dearly.

In response, more than 100 of Abbott's Facebook fans all have roughly the same suggestion. In the words of one guy: "Secede. I'm done with the Republic as a whole. They're going to he'll [sic], we don't need to go with them."

Calls for secession are nothing new around here, obviously. The whole thing feels sort of charmingly retro, in fact, right down to the multitude of folks on Abbott's page who are also nominating Chuck Norris to lead the new Republic of Texas. (The man is 72, guys. Can we not just let him relax and tell his grandchildren some bedtime stories about roundhouse kicking terrorists in the face?)

Predictably, one of the loudest voices calling for Texas to get the hell out of the union this morning is the Texas Nationalist Movement, a Nederland-based group that's been around since 1995 or so. Several of the posters on Abbott's wall are linking to a petition TNM has created, asking that the Texas Legislature formally consider secession. The petition's been around since February of this year; in the last day, though, it's garnered several dozen new signatures and been shared on Facebook about 200 times.

So who is the Texas Nationalist Movement, anyway? TNM President Daniel Miller was interviewed by Glenn Beck back in July , in the final days of Beck's stint on Fox News. Beck asked Miller how many members TNM has; Miller hedged, saying they've had "over 250,000 people in and out of our organization" at various times. That adds up to "a fairly broad base of support," he told Beck.

Probably not. But Miller is certainly trying to seize the moment, releasing a statement on the group's website. It reads, in part, "This presidential election serves as a clear signal from the rest of the Union to Texas -- we do not care for your right of local self-government and we do not share your values."

Obama, Miller adds, "represented a descent into the final destruction of the republican form of government envisioned by the Founders of the United States and Texas. With this, Texas cannot abide."

The outrage party is continuing at full speed at both Abbott's and TNM's Facebook pages and will likely do so for at least a few more hours.

While obama's trying to take our guns, his DHS[inland security] has ordered 2,700 ARMORED troop carriers, 7,000 AR 15's and enough hollow point bullets to shoot every American 6 times!, 1.6 billion bullets, no! If Texas succeeds in seceding from the union, I will be applying for my citizenship there. There is nothing left here for us to be proud of. We have a government and president that is abusing its authority in a dictatorial manner. Impose obamacare on us, use executive privelige for his own gain, give black farmers $2million in restitution which is in violation of federal law to allocate federal funds to any one race. Good luck Texas, I'm rooting for you!

Obama himself has challenged GOD Himself by standing up for gay marriage which mocks our Lord and Savior; who gave His life that we might live in freedom. Obama is as close too the anti-Christ as can be with his illicit executive orders. He is not just liar and chief. He is a mockery to our nation. He is continuing the unending destruction of the unborn now at 55 million these last forty years since Roe v. Wade. When in God's Holy name does this murder of the unborn stop???? Lastly Israel; watch your back; don't dare trust this President of death and destruction. He is out to destroy the Jewish state along with his Muslim Brotherhood of friends he has bonded with. Some of you who think this succession talk is silly, better pay attention to the amount of civil unrest in this country and start holding our elected officials accountable or we are going to be in trouble. Anyone who voted for Obama voted for a man who has lost his faith in capitalism and the free market. They voted for a man who ran against Bush using his 5 trillion dollar deficit against him - then turned around and raised the deficit more in half the time. We need a balance of Free Market and adequate Rule of Law or our economy is going to collapse. Obama funds his programs out of the pockets of American Texans. We don’t have any more to give.  We need to wake up as a nation before our pathetic national leadership inspires another Thomas Jefferson.  If you want to know how something like this can happen, read  "Defiance"  by Tom Ryker  - a current top seller.  This best selling conspiracy/thriller is so down to earth and close to the truth it will scare you, and you’ll be waiting for it to raise its ugly head on the evening news.

The next time someone calls in saying that a State does not have the right to secede, please ask them to hang up the phone, got to the nearest British Consulate, rescind their US citizenship, and apply to be British subjects again. We just let Puerto Rico hold a vote in which secession was one of the options. We supported the secession of the various Republics of the old Soviet Union. We supported the secession of South Sudan. So we send our soldiers overseas to fight and die to secure for others rights our government purports to grant to others?

Texas is a lagging indicator and is getting a little more purple each election cycle. Selectively inbred white frat daddies running everything is going to get more and more difficult to pull off. District gerrymandering and voter suppression is an unsustainable strategy. I couldn't help watch Karl Rove squirm in the Fox chair Tuesday night. Then the next day he accused the Obama of "mean tricks" during the election. Well, that is quite a compliment coming from Rove, a traitor that participated in the outing of CIA officer Valerie Plame. He should be hanging with a rope around his fat neck.

Well, it sounds like his ignorant, racists, rich friends were not happy with the results and the 300 million they gave him to defeat Obama, and other democrats.

Secession, yea, that's dealing with reality.

 @anylove Folks that understand economics know that insurance is the reason health care is over-priced. Anytime you insulate the end-user from price in a marketplace it fuels super fast price inflation.  Just look at the price of procedures that are not covered by insurance and see how they have DROPPED in price over time because of COMPETITION and no subsidies - Lasik eye surgery for example, or cosmetic surgery.  If there is no health insurance providers cannot charge more than folks can pay out of pocket.

 @anylove I am a 43 year old Texan. I have been here since I was 2. I do not have health insurance. It is expensive and I wouldn't use. I pay for my health care costs my self. Most of us here believe in the CHOICE to have it or not. I do not want to pay for something I do not want nor need. I do not want to pay for someone else's health care, it is their responsibility to take care of themselves and  make their own choices.

 @bradhart2 NASA is actually one of the only fed funded projects that is making money!  It won't matter when the US economy collapses under the FED. Also, Texas actually can support itself with crop production. Also, Texans make up a huge majority of US troops. They'll come back and serve in the Texas Armed Forces.

 @bradhart2 Pretty much any entrepreneur that doesn't want to deal with the: IRS, EPA, OSHA, and all the other alphabet soup agencies, and Czars will flock to Texas to start their company.  I would imagine that there would be two or three new oil refineries built soon after Texans vote for independence.  Just as companies are moving production to other countries because our laws are so numerous that it makes more business sense to make products overseas, with an independent Republic of Texas they can stay closer to their markets and have a much better workforce at the same time.

 @melonheadx13  @catjj6977 I lived in Mexico for three years and it has private health care.  VERY reasonably priced and very good health care I might add.  $2 to see a doctor and the higher end Dr.'s are about $20.  Drugs are available without a prescription for about 20% of the cost for same drug in US, with some being as low as 10% of US cost.

 @catjj6977  @melonheadx13 Check-out the documentary 'The Determinators' on youtube - it's an hour so make some time for it.  It explains that under 'universal' health care human life is not respected and the very young and those past their tax paying years are viewed as 'disposable'.  No one in countries that have 'universal' healthcare have the survival rates of those who receive treatment for the same diseases in the US .

 i know u guys have 2 have some decent health care, i work with ppl from where ur from, Carlos took his wife to Mexico on a flight to go to the denist, instead of staying here, r health care system over here sucks even though i like living here, so i dont understand y ppl r so against Obamacare, i think once they get use to the idea they will like it though, thanks for the input n u have a blessed day, someone else said u had uniersal health care, so i know it has to b good im all in for universal health care, i hear it rocks take care.Cat
