Dallas Police Found 15 Assault Rifles in a Suspected Illegal Immigrant's Car Yesterday

Categories: Crime

Yesterday afternoon at around 3 p.m., Dallas police were sent to check out a silver Pontiac sedan parked suspiciously in an Oak Cliff alley. Officers waited for the driver to pull away, then performed a traffic stop on the 2400 block of Brooklyn Avenue after the car made an illegal turn.

Police arrested the driver, 24-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, for driving without a license and not wearing a seat belt. But a search of the vehicle turned up something not commonly found during routine traffic stops: 15 AK-style assault rifles.

Police suspect Gonzalez is in the country illegally. He was taken to Dallas County jail where he is being detained at the request of DPD. He has not yet been formally charged.

Police spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey said the department has no information on how Gonzalez came to be in possession of such a large number of assault weapons, where they came from, or what he planned to do with them.

The case has been forwarded to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms, which is taking the lead on the case, and which, given recent history, may have a pretty good idea about how an illegal immigrant would end up with 15 AKs in his trunk. We have a call into the agency's Dallas spokesman for more details.

Update at 1:14 p.m.: ATF spokesman Andrew Young says that, yes, his agency is investigating and that federal charges against Gonzalez are pending. The bureau is in the process of fingerprinting the guns and tracing them back to where they originated.

Well now, I am thoroughly surprised that all the right wing gunhuggers didn't rush to the man's defense since he had the standard NRA allotment of firearms stashed in his Pontiac. Actually the NRA probably advises you to throw in a couple of grenade lauchers and Glocks just for good measure.

Love the lord god 'Smith And Wesson' with all your tiny black heart.

Wait - wasn't he here just to work - like the immigrant "advocates" are always claiming?  I guess transporting assault rifles can be classified as a job.  If they don't care about immigration laws, then why would they care about firearms laws?

"15 AK-style assault rifles"??? What ever happened to reporters who actually REPORT? If you don't know what the weapons were, why do you resort to the SCARY words? AK-style, ASSAULT weapons...  Whether they were AK47s, AR15s or even a Ruger 10/22, they are all CARBINES, that is they weapon type. You might as well have said they found 15 scary-looking guns in the trunk. Is this your first writing gig? If so, then you'll go far in this liberal media era where facts are irrelevant. FYI, what you term as an "assault weapon" is usually a SEMI-automatic carbine with tactical furniture that other than looks is no different than a typical hunting rifle. Single shot per trigger pull, not "spraying bullets". The tactical furniture makes it LOOK like a military weapon, but it doesn't not make it an "assault weapon". An assault weapon is anything weapon that can be used to assault another human being, such as a rock, a knife, an iron, a frying pan, etc... Of course if he was arrested with 15 frying pans in the trunk that wouldn't be a compelling headline now would it? Amateurs!

I don't think any of us would want to be on the business end of that weapon..Getting hit by a single shot from that kind of firearm will  seriously screw up someones day.

Full auto ? That kind of shooting gets expensive quick .Even at $ 225. Per 1000 .

I think we have one maybe one or two  in my area ,There is no mistaking the sound of one of those being fired and there is that slight pause between rounds so I doubt they are shooting full auto.

Not that they can't

This is literally right down the street from my house. I am really surprised that this guy would be here illegally (aren't we supposed to just call them undocumented citizens?) since there are so few people in the neighborhood who are here illegally. That was sarcasm if you can't tell. I really hope that some day we can get a handle on our problem with our friends from the south feeling that it is their birthright to come here without regard for our laws.

He was just getting ready for the impending UN invasion.

Just doing the arms-smuggling Americans won't (with an assist from the BATFE).

Also, I think this settle for all time the question of where Jesus is pro-gun.

I am impressed! A trunk full of full automatic assault rifles? Where can I easily and inexpensively obtain one?

Seriously, the term "assault rifle" means a select-fire, military rifle. The bogus term "assault weapon" is used to signify any 'evil looking' firearm that looks similar to a real assault rifle. The ignorant public often conflates the two very different terms.

How can you tie this to "gunhuggers"?  If anything, this underscores what the gunhuggers are screaming bloody murder about.  You have this shit going on in our alley, while the federal government is disarming the responsible, law abiding public and their ability to defend themselves against this.  I am not a gun nut, but I trust a neighbor with a CHL much more than an "undocumented alien" with a trunk full of illegal weapons.

@rubbercow what about our moving the border South onto their land?  You know that the Mexican American war was started after US troops were shot on Matomoros Island; which was then part of Mexico.  This event, used as the causus belli for the war prompted Abe Lincoln to ask, where did those drops of blood spilled.

"The President, in his first war message of May 1846, declares that the soil was ours on which hostilities were commenced by Mexico; and he repeats that declaration, almost in the same language, in each successive annual message, thus showing that he esteems that point, a highly essential one. In the importance of that point, I entirely agree with the President. To my judgment, it is the very point, upon which he should be justified, or condemned. In his message of Decr. 1846, it seems to have occurred to him, as is certainly true, that title--ownership--to soil, or any thing else, is not a simple fact; but is a conclusion following one or more simple facts; and that it was incumbent upon him, to present the facts, from which he concluded, the soil was ours, on which the first blood of the war was shed.     Accordingly a little below the middle of page twelve in the message last referred to, he enters upon that task; forming an issue, and introducing testimony, extending the whole, to a little below the middle of page fourteen. Now I propose to try to show, that the whole of this,--issue and evidence--is, from beginning to end, the sheerest deception. The issue, as he presents it, is in these words "But there are those who, conceding all this. to be true, assume the ground that the true western boundary of Texas is the Nueces, instead of the Rio Grande; and that, therefore, in marching our army to the east bank of the latter river, we passed the Texan line, and invaded the teritory of Mexico."

Ironic that when a president lies his way into war, it has repercussions that are difficult to anticipate.   For a party and a group that speak so loftily of "responsibility" when do they assume it?  For the party that claims to care more about faith and Christian values, when do they follow them?  For the party that claims to be the most loving and charitable when does this race bating stop?

@JM64 Actually, there is a decent chance that these are in fact select fire weapons from China.  The cartels get them in Mexico from China, and then smuggle them north to gangs here.

@scottindallas as usual, your habit of looking at history in a vacuum leads you to an outright silly conclusion. How do you suppose the Mexicans came to possess the land which the US deprived them of? Who do you suppose the Mexicans deprived that land of? How far back do you think we should pursue this? I don't understand why you would direct comments about religion and party to me; I am a Democrat and believe very strongly that religious beliefs are for keeping to yourself.

@scottindallas you are wrong. When, exactly, did any offshoot of the Mexica tribe ever live north of the Rio Grande? Never. You are just a pompous, self-aggrandizing, intentionally and loudly indignant blow-hard. You are only good at one thing: twisting around whenever one of your goofball positions is demonstrated to be wrong.

@rubbercow  @scottindallas no religion, but invasion and theft of land.  You want to call the natives of the land, illegal immigrants, fine.  But, it doesn't make your right.  History is matter of perspective.  Ours, as we learn it is skewed and deeply distorted.  We claim to be a nation of colonized people, BUT WE"RE THE COLONIZERS!  Ask the native Americans about colonialism--no WASP has grounds to speak--but they're the ones writing our history.
