Tony Romo is Sixth Most Hated Player in the NFL, Says Nielsen Survey

Don't cry, Tony. Cowboys fans still love you. Some of them anyway.
Tony Romo's partying-in-Cabo-with-Jessica-Simpson-right-before-the-playoffs days seem to be behind him, but he's still a hard man for Cowboys fans to love. Whether it's a last-minute botched snap against the Seahawks, seemingly brain-dead end-of-game clock management, or any other number of meltdowns, he has an excellent way of counter-weighting his Pro Bowl ability with a fat sack of ugh.

Some Cowboys fans cling to the belief that Romo just needs another week, that he will soon emerge as the Aaron Rodgers- or Drew Brees-caliber passer they so desperately want him to be. Football fans elsewhere aren't so forgiving. How else to explain Romo's dismal showing in an annual Forbes survey, conducted by Nielsen/E-Poll, of the NFL's most and least popular players?

Romo came in sixth from the bottom, with just 26 percent of respondents saying they like or really like him, ahead of such teddy bears as Ndamukong Suh, Michael Vick, and Randy Moss, but behind his would-be brethren in the quarterback elite like Brees, Rodgers, and the Manning brothers.

Hopefully Romo can learn from the Steelers' Troy Polamalu, the league's most beloved player. First thing is to do something about the hair, since long, flowing manes are apparently in in the NFL.

A Super Bowl win would be nice. Bring home a ring, and Cowboys fans will quickly catch a bad case of Romonesia.

Does anybody remember our offense before Romo? HORRIBLE.  I just can't get over how many of his own fans hate him.  And anybody who says's he shouldn't start in this league doesn't watch the games.  This guy is easily on of the top 10 QB's in the league.

It's not just Tony...the "Dallas Boo Birds" of the 60's are migrating back...and they are fat and fit.....and still hungry....

Public does not hate Tony Romo. They just do not like him. He is in the gray area between stars and the axe murderers like Vick, holding his huge Dallas Key, you cited. For his career he really needs to go to another team, but being the 2nd or third best player on this team, no move is possible.

This only adds to my dismay over the Cowboys and continuing lack of giving a shit. For other fans to "hate" Romo, I guess that's ok. He's the QB of a love-hate team and all that comes with playing for the Cowboys. But I have never understood the hate he gets from his own fans. I don't think fans should be undying in support for their own, but Romo is a damn good QB. While not at the top of the top (Brady, Manning, etc.), he's almost there.

There's a bunch of reasons as to why all of this. On one side, there's some bad clips. The fumble against Seattle on the Goal Line in the playoffs. The vacation to Mexico with Jessica Simpson during a first round playoff Bye. The post-game interview (I think after the Giants playoff loss) where he was a bit smug, uncaring and said "if losing a football game is the worst thing to happen to me in my life, then I've had a pretty good life...". All of those are simply NOT good. They're burned into our minds. My brother has often compared Romo to Ian Kinsler, who also suffers from similar bad snippets, body language, pouting spells, etc. all of which make him "look" worse to fans.

Obviously Aaron Rodgers is now pretty much an elite QB, but can anyone imagine Tony Romo with the offenses that GB has had, not to mention some pretty good D's? In that division?! How about some of the style that Pittsburgh has played with that D, run game and even WR weapons? Romo can be a top-flight QB, but as cliche as it may sound, it's a team game. The Cowboys have had one decent defense in 10 years while seemingly rebuilding their O-Line every year.

Furthermore, Rodgers, Manning(s), Favre, Brady, Elway, Brees; all these guys who are among the best always had a few games you had to throw out the window. With 4 INTs, 1 fumble kind of games. But the difference was the games the "should" win, they usually won b/c of their D or wealth of offensive weapons. Something Romo or the Cowboys simply haven't had in some time.

This is because, by and large, Dallas Cowboys fans are ill-informed, bandwagonning, poorly educated, follow-the-ball-when-you-watch, Marginal-Citizenship-having, stereotypical-overbite-having dipshits.

I truly hope we get to see Romo play for another team, as that is his only hope for vindication.

As of this moment, he could immediately start AND vastly improve:   Seattle, San Francisco, Arizona, Kansas City, St. Louis, Houston, Carolina, Jacksonville, Tampa, NYJets, Buffalo, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Oakland, San Diego, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, and Tennessee.

Suck a dick, morons.

Who hates Tony Romo?  And why?  Because he's a GOOD quarterback that came from nowhere?  Because he can scramble?  Don't blame him because this team sucks!

Hating Tony Romo is like hating:

-Clouds in summer

-A white sand beach

-A cool Colorado day in summer

-A fresh made omelet

ps-Another Forbes survey?  Really! They are only qualified to comment on one thing-money; that's it..........let SI and ESPN do the sports stuff.   What's next, Guitar Player Magazine's in depth series on the world's best beaches? With a forward by a half crazed, drunken, and disheveled Eddie Van Halen?

We could very easily have a knuckle head QB he does a lot for this team and community.

He does not deserve that criticism, how quickly we forget the years of Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Vinny Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe. If you want to hate someone, hate Jerry Jones because until he fires himself and hires a REAL GM and a REAL head coach, we are destined for mediocre football.

does Schutze hate Tony Romo?

Romo's a fine QB, you haters cannot make that judgment based on his play on the field.  His offensive line is atrocious, give him a decent line and then we can make a fair assessment.

Is there any significance to the link to a Gawker article about Obama or is the DO being stupid/lazy?

As for Romo, it sucks but it comes with the territory.  Be a lead figure for the most hated team in the league and, surprise, you are among the most hated players in the league.  Consistently crapping the bed doesn't help either.

Observerist

I didn't see 'hate' or 'dislike' as an actual response in the survey, only 'like' and 'like a lot'.

So what does the DO have against  Romo?

He does suck at times on the field but I don't blame him for all of the team's lack of success.

He hasn't really done much off the field for people to hate him.

Come on, really?

This is very crass.........but so very true!  I went to the old place atleast twice a year; I would not waste my money at the new digs-not worth it.  And heck, if I heard "down in front" every 5 minutes at the old place, I'd probably be arrested for standing and cheering at Jerra World.

My dad used to take me to see Boston Patriots games at old Schaefer Stadium, and if you sat, you were either dead drunk or crippled.  It was awesome; so alive!

Football is not about eating 90 dollar nacho's, looking at artwork, sitting, and watching go go dancers; people in NY, Boston, Washington and Philly laugh at us, and this is exacerbated by being mediocre.  It won't happen this year, or maybe next, but eventually football in Dallas will be returned to us-the fans.

@kergo1spaceship I dislike him because I believe he's dumb as a brick. His athleticism saves his lack of quick thinking ability a fair amount of the time, but as he gets slower his brain isn't going to get faster.
