Mavs Suspend Delonte West Again. This Time It Could Be For Good.
The Mavericks' announcement today that the Mavericks have indefinitely suspended guard Delonte West isn't exactly a surprise. He never seems to make it long without a suspension of some sorts. Just last week, he was on the outs with the team for a day after a locker room tirade. But that doesn't make it any less sad.
Guess this could be the end.
West has been a solid contributor for the Mavs and, more importantly, brought joy to the hearts of fans with his stream-of-consciousness pronouncements and tweets.
The Mavs gave little detail about the reason for the suspension, saying only that it was for "conduct detrimental to the team," but West offered some of his thoughts on Twitter.
I love the city of Dallas..I love playin in the NBA...no I'm not off my meds...no I ain't on no bipolar trip...this real people lives..— Delonte West (@CharleeRedz13) October 25, 2012
If I'm not what u lookin 4 ....That's fine...just dont kick me in my ass on the way out the door....I didn't do anything to deserve that...— Delonte West (@CharleeRedz13) October 25, 2012
And it just ain't right..imma leave it at that..no ill will towards no one...I'm just sittin here across from the arena wit tear in my eyes— Delonte West (@CharleeRedz13) October 25, 2012
We're right there with you. A Delonte-sized hole is already forming in the heart of the Mavericks nation, and there's really nothing that will ever be able to fill it.
Update at 1:36 p.m.: ESPN-Dallas talked to West, who said he received a text after on Thursday morning telling him not to come to practice after an locker-room incident after a loss last night to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
"There was an argument between two teammates in the locker room last night that didn't involve me," West said. "Somehow I'm being blamed for it. I had nothing to do with it. I don't know what's going on."
And maybe West's Twitter soliloquy was a bit melodramatic. Coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN-Dallas the incident's "not that big a deal."
