Sigh. Glenn Beck is Returning to Your Television Set

As odious a human being as Glenn Beck is, the man is brilliant in his way. His decision a year ago to break with Fox News, move from New York to North Texas, and launch an Internet-only TV station seemed a dubious bet. The cable network is, after all, the leading outlet for right-wing talking heads, and Beck is only one person. A very loud, bombastic person with a hard core of devoted followers, but surely that wasn't enough to make up for the audience he'd be losing.

Oh, but it was. Beck managed to pull in $80 million through his media empire, and his reliably silly diatribes have continued to ripple across the Internet with at least as much force as they did when he was on Fox. Score one for Beck and one for the power of new media.

Beck's farewell to television, it turns out, was only temporary. As the New York Times reports this morning -- and as Beck's website confirms, starting today at 5 p.m., Beck's streaming online network, TheBlaze TV, will be offered on Dish Network.

TheBlaze TV, an Internet television network, will remain available via the Web for its 300,000 paying subscribers, including those not subscribing to Dish. But the distribution deal with Dish gives Mr. Beck, formerly a host on Fox News, a new way to reach viewers that may be adopted by other Internet entrepreneurs seeking a way into traditional television.

"Our success over the past year has given us the ability to go on traditional television while maintaining complete creative control and freedom and remaining at the center of the Internet revolution," Mr. Beck said.

Dish is only the beginning, however, as Beck is seeking distribution to all of America's 100 million cable subscribers. And world domination, of course.

Glen Beck has ALWAYS made more sense than the flaming liberals who believe murdering babies is okay, that sleeping with someone of the same sex makes for a healthy family, and that entitling half of America at the expense of the other half is healthy for us economically.  Yay for Beck.

just jealous because Rachel Maddow, Ed Schulz, Chris Matthews and other leading lights of the left can't even imagine pulling in the numbers that Beck does

Beck now clearly represents the extremism of the republican party.  I wouldn't be surprised if he's their nominee in 2016 to go up against Hillary.

Come on now, even The Longhorn Network, an utter and complete failure by ESPN and UT, is in more homes. Beck will be lucky if he ever gets it in as many homes as crap shopping channels.

@FoxNewsBS lmao Glenn Beck has never been, nor ever will be on my tv (I try to not have even clips of his idiocy on it).

I would not be too cavalier about insulting a Mormon prophet.

I would hate to hear that a mob of ax-wielding Mormon fundamentalists stormed the Dallas Observer, dragged your half-naked and unconscious body down the street behind a pick-up for insulting their prophet . . .

only to have the President deplore your juvenile insults and use of visuals that attack said Mormon prophet.

So, DISH dropped Mad Men an signed up a mad man

It's all about perspective; DISH can get this asshole on the air, but they can't get Breaking Bad or The Walking Dead.

It's all about blog traffic. Glenn Beck trickle-down economics.

@holmantx The president did not, in fact, deplore the anti-Muslim film in question. Justifiably fearing for their lives, the Americans stationed at the embassy did. Their missive was not approved by anyone in D.C.; Obama's own statement was unambiguous, and was made before the Romney campaign decided to use dead American bodies as ignominious stepping stones.

You just lost a lot of credibility.

@holmantx four Americans died today, and you're making a joke comparing a legitimate tragedy with people saying mean things about a swollen-faced conservative media personality. Is there anything you morons won't politicize?

@monstruss because Beck isn't charging as much and he brings numbers higher than breaking bad or walking dead

Why don't embassies, especially the ones in hostile countries, have panic rooms/bunkers where the staff can hide from a mob for a few hours?

@Daniel  @holmantx Holmantx has never had credibility, every comment he makes on here is foaming-at-the-mouth bullshit.

@Daniel  U.S. sources say they do not believe the attacks that killed Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya, were in reaction to the online release of a film mocking Islam, CNN's Elise Labott reports. Stevens was the victim of a targeted al Qaeda attack "to avenge the death of Abu Yaya al-Libi, al Qaeda's second in command killed a few months ago.

It was a military operation.

I was in Beirut recently attending a party where the Embassy staff told me the Marine security force had been pulled off. Same in Libya. And there been a Maine squad there, they would have engaged the military force and beaten them back. It is my understanding that the State Department is now sending a 50-man Marine security force after the fact. Who made the decision to use private contractors?

Also, in the Cairo embassy fiasco demonstrators reportedly chanted “Obama! Obama! We are all Osama!” They yelled this obvious reference to Osama bin Laden as an al Qaeda-style flag was hoisted and the American flag brought down. At least one of the protesters at the anti-American rally knows a thing or two about al Qaeda: Mohammed al Zawahiri, who is the younger brother of al Qaeda’s emir, Ayman al Zawahiri.

And incompetent foreign policy statements by the President cannot be protected speech. Romney is running for President and we need to know how he would react and react he did - he was great today. and he took questions from a hostile press, while the President refused.

President Obama hurt himself today.

@holmantx

Well, you at least provided a fair-minded criticism of Obama this go-'round. Your man Romney did not. He was dishonest and grotesquely opportunistic.

Even worse -- but more predictably -- he demagogued those ignorant Americans who insist on believing that Obama is a Muslim or is somehow in cahoots with Muslims. This he did while the violence was still unfolding. Class act.

It should go without saying that it was hardly a good day for Obama politically. But the Romney campaign's performance was detestable to moderate Americans. This should concern you as a Republican. Romney could have criticized Obama without implying that he sympathizes with murderers. He chose not to.

Romney probably managed to galvanize the more rabid members of his base, which frankly he needed to do. But if you think he convinced people in the middle of his leadership ability, you're delusional.
