Brianna Gardner
It's been nearly a month since the housekeeping staff of an upscale Chicago hotel discovered the body of Brianna Gardner, a 22-year-old Dallas woman who had been fatally shot in the head. The case seemed to be headed for a quick resolution when police arrested a 28-year-old man whose cell phone had been found in Gardner's room. But he was never charged.

In the meantime, news outlets didn't exactly bury the news that Gardner had just been picked up on a prostitution charge and was an aspiring stripper. Still, the last news report on the murder was August 16. Since then, nothing.

The silence was too much for Jennifer Glasco, who describes herself "a working girl in the same profession as Brianna," who started an online petition on September 1 demanding answers. (It's unclear whether "working" refers to stripping or prostitution; we have a call in to Glasco.)

"(T)his whole thing has hit a lot of us ladies very hard," Glasco wrote in an email. "Reading how the media put her out there. They were able to report what she was arrested for prior to her murder, but they have said nothing about the actual murder. It breaks my heart to know her case has just been put on the back burner. She was a human being that got her life taken away far too soon."

In short, Glasco thinks there's been far too much judgment and far too little justice. As of this morning, 918 people agreed.

"If this was a 22 year old college student, who dressed sexy and drank too much, flirting with every guy that crossed her path and was raped and killed ... it would have not left the front page of the news until the killer was found," the petition says. "Why is this case any different?"

As of now, we have 1020 signatures for Brianna's petition. There are alot of people who care to know whats goingon with this story. And lets not compare Brianna's murder to a childs. Thats just ridiculous. Again, this is not about justifying the business or getting anyone to understand it. This was a human being.

regardless of her proffesion she is still a human being its sad how the craigslist killer victims were described as "upscale" strippers and erotic message services and was all over the media and did everything they can for there case. but as far as this young lady who was in the same proffesion they were in gets described as just a "prostitute that was arrested earlier that week"..no matter what anyones proffesion is it could happen to anybody i dont care if you were a lawyer walking down the street theres many stories on everyday people who get killed or shot at judgmental america needs to get past this young ladies occupation and show some respect what if it was your daught? sister? niece? cousin? you would want no one disrespecting your loved ones like you guys are disrespecting hers. there is no difference on why this young lady should recieve justice! forget what she was doing why dont you ask who did it? why? and when will this guy be caught

Thank you so much, Eric :) You have no idea what this means to alot of us. People, what you do for a living DOES NOT define who you are as a person. Murder is murder...reguardless of who the victim is or what they do for a living. If a woman goes out of the house wearing sexy clothes....does that mean she is asking to be rapped??? No. This is not about getting people to understand the profession. It is about a human being who had her life taken away way too soon. Its about how the media put her out there to be "Just a prostitute". Its about a mother who's daughter was taken away. Its about a familly that needs peace and a young lady that deserves justice. Where is the humanity??? And besides all that, when has it ever been okay for a murderer to walk the streets? Last time I checked, every human being has a soul. Stop trying to hide it. Open your hearts and have more understanding for family and friends who lost someone dear to them. Eric, again, THANK YOU for this positive story!!! This is the type of thing that really makes my heart smile. God bless you.

first it does not matter at wall what this women did for money that means she deserved to die or it matters less that she was black and not a white girl... and whoever in these comments that are saying that you are truly going to hell and I dont feel the least bit sorry for you.. the truth is if this was your daughter or your sister those words would never have came out of your ignorant mouths period... this is about seeking justice and thats it!!! having sum respect!!

I'm going to attempt to delicately answer why her death is any different from anyone else's.

#1 there's a difference between visiting a city and being killed in your hotel room versus visiting a city and prostituting in your hotel room.

#2 a kid killed in the street in a drive by shooting will get more sympathy than a guy killed in a drive by shooting that was dealing drugs. That's just the way it is.

There is no form to sign when you decide to become a criminal that says "I understand that the activities I engage in might get me killed".

Once again, sucks that she got killed. I hope others can use this as what not to do. The police are obviously investigating this, nothing we can do down here to solve it.

 @DirtyP1

No dirty P1 there is no difference Murder is just that and a sin to boot. I do believe Jesus said he who is without sin may he cast the first stone. America is a piece of work prostitutioni is the oldest profession around. Marilyn Monroe was being gifted by our president at that time  Kennedy, you know him, Geprge Bush Jr. Ms. Rice was the secretary of state, I guess you can nickname it something else since she had another job. Jacquline Kennedy in her marriage contract it states how many times a year sex will be provided then she married Arnassis no disrespect but I probably spelled his name wrong another contract multi Billionaire it explained how much a year in the muti millionaire family for her to put up because he would be the provider, now was that prostitution  I don't think people know the meaning of prostitution you take money for sex. Now a whole lot of men have to pay their wife for sex and they know it . oops there is that prostitution again. Sweetie the job isn't what got her killed it was the sick trick with a gun, what was he mad about the pussy wasn't free then he should have kept it moving. Men think differently all they want to do is hit it love, devotion. loyal and faithful they speak volume for what kind of man you are and today I only know one president of the united states that is a King oops President Obama and probably the only one without a chick on the side yet he handle everybody fairly because I believe the rules to life have been written a long time the Bible gives you instruction on how to live by those rules don't go away for those you could care less about. As for it showing others what not to do how would that be possible you have some good men everybody isn't going to shoot you. The police are you in the same world I'm in? It was the reporter that isn't good at what he does because he talked about her being a prostitution not the murder. Prejudice is  disease and some people have written just down right rotten stuff speaking on a victim. Those that love her want to lay her down to rest in peace sympathy is not what they want they need and want some support. And you personally probably can do nothing but a little support and kindness even from a prostitute is free and so is respec t for others loved ones.

Unfortunate story but the World's Oldest Profession is also in the running for World's Deadliest Profession. She was cute and had some nice DSLs.

In 2012, Chicago has the highest murder rate in the Alpha world cities with 19.4 murders per 100,000. This rate is more than triple New York (6.0) and more than double Los Angeles (7.5), and ahead of Mexico City, Moscow, and São Paulo. Chicago is projected to have 505 homicides for the year which would be a 16% increase from 2011.[3]

@Montemalone Plus prostitutes aren't exactly just "dressing sexy and drinking too much, flirting with every guy that crosses her path". It's a bit more than that.

Sadly, I think you're right. She is (well, was) hot, though. That ought to count for something.

Before anyone starts bemoaning the current state of society (Oh, we are such sickos - we only care when attractive white girls get killed), or my own poor taste, this isn't anything new. Nothing has ever sold papers (or stone tablets, or papyrus scrolss, or ceramic urns, or anything else used to convey written information) like hot, dead women.
