Eat That, New York: Cowboys Still the Most Valuable Team in Football

No matter what happens on the field tonight, Jerry Jones has already won.
With the NFL season set to kick off with tonight's Cowboys-Giants matchup in New York, it's easy to be distracted by debates about who has the better team or who will score the most points and lose focus of what really matters in professional football: money.

By that measure -- and only that measure -- the Cowboys are the best team in the league. According to Forbes annual ranking, the Cowboys are worth a ludicrous $2.1 billion, making them the second sports franchise in the world to eclipse the $2 billion mark after Manchester United. The 14 percent increase over last year was driven largely by revenue from Cowboys Stadium. The Giants, on the other hand, come in at No. 5 with a laughable $1.5 billion value and a load of debt.

So, as you watch tonight's game and bemoan the fact that, while the Giants have won two Super Bowls in five years, the Cowboys have been mediocre since the 1990s, just remind yourself that Jerry Jones is making a killing. It'll make missing the playoffs easier to bear.

Cowboy addicts go out and mortgage the house to buy season tickets; which make Jones a billionaire.

Didn't think they'd have a chance in hell to win. Thought the O-Line would get Romo killed. Romo and Ogletree proved that wrong as did the back-up center. Corners were great against Manning and the new LB is pretty damn good.  Absolutely amazing. Good win. Better defense, onward to Seattle. This may prove Peter King not to be crazy after all.

Bum Bright laughed till the end of his days,  Jerry was hammering him to buy the Cowboys.  Bum was an Ol' Aggie,  played it perfectly.

"Jerry,  you're a nice young man,   but you don't have enough money to buy the Dallas Cowboys .........."

"Dammit,   I'll show you just how much money I got ........"

Gigged Jerry in just the right place.

Book value is nice,  $2-point-whatever is impressive.

But,  that's not how much money Jerry has in the bank.   That's what,  in theory,  the Cowboys would bring if sold.  Q is,  would Jerry open the books to a lender if he ran short?

(Last year,  you may have heard the rumor,  the Cowboys were being sold to a group of Filipino businessmen.   Who were going to move them to the Phillippines.

Where they would be known as the Manila Folders.

God,  that's bad.)

You'd think,  with all that money,  Jerry could buy himself a better toupee.

Oh,  come on,  don't tell me that's news to you.

Just imagine how much they'd be worth if they could actually make it back to a Super Bowl one day.

Jerry is just one big rich idiot!  Wait how can one be an idiot and be rich?  Oh he just has a few hundred million sheeple who continue to buy into his pie that he serves.  Cant be too mad at a business man who make millions.  But you can still hate the player personnel decisions!  This team sucks.  go chiefs

There can't be any doubt that the first priority for Jerry Jones is to make as much money as possible from the Cowboys. Jerry is likely a billionaire, but he's still willing to act like a complete ass in those pizza commercials so he can stuff a few more dollars in his pockets. Winning seems to be pretty far down the list for Jerry, otherwise he would fire his ineffective General Manager-Head Coach......in other words fire himself.

$2.1 billion. Apparently buys one playoff win in a decade. Well played, well played.

Eric, you gonna tone down the arrogance in your writing.

Most theories from people more in the know and smarter than you or me say that Jerry put himself into a financial vice grip by building the new stajium. And it is nowhere close to being paid off. If you look at how Jerry's been spending money the past few years you surely wouldn't have had such an irritating approach to this post.
