There's a New College Fantasy Football League, and the Hootie and the Blowfish Guy is Commissioner

I've never played fantasy football. I like to catch a Cowboys game from time to time, but actually joining a league and drafting players and obsessively tracking them throughout the season seems like a lot of work and not a lot of fun. So I'd never really wondered or cared why the fantasy game seems specific to professional sports, why fantasy college football isn't a thing.

Well, a new Dallas company is trying to make it one. This month marks the launch of Pigskin Fantasy U, which "brings a fun new twist to college fantasy sports," according to a press release.

Seems that rather than select individual players, as is done in the pro leagues, participants pick entire teams from the 124 FBS schools and decide each week which ones to start or bench.

The idea seemed even lamer than its pro-football cousin until I saw that former Hootie & the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker is the league's commissioner.

"I can't wait for football season to start," Rucker said. "Watching games on Saturday is one of my favorite things to do and adding Pigskin Fantasy U to the mix is going to be awesome. My buddies and I needed another reason to talk about football and trash talk each other."

This changes everything. I'm signing up for the league and dusting off my copy of "Cracked Rear View" so I can play it on a loop as I watch football all Saturday. Anyone care to join me?
