GOP Party Platform Antagonizes the Sleeping Giant in Texas

Categories: Politics

Texas isn't really a red state anymore. It just doesn't know it yet. The Hispanic population nationwide grew from 35 million to 50 million over the last decade or so, and 20 percent of that growth was in Texas. Meanwhile, the white bloc that does all the electing around here is no longer a majority. It's only a matter of time before the voter rolls reflect the fact the Lone Star State is in play.

It's mystifying, then, that at a time of tectonic demographic shifting, the Republican Party would choose to codify its enmity toward Hispanic immigrants. As we might have mentioned, there's a Grand Ol' party kicking off over in Tampa, where the Republican platform is getting a tune-up. Abortion should be outlawed, they say, even where rape is involved. And immigration laws should be strictly enforced, with no humanitarian-minded compromises for the undocumented youths brought to the country by their parents.

Many of the platform's immigration amendments were suggested by Kansas secretary of state and immigration warrior Kris Kobach, who authored Farmers Branch's anti-immigrant housing ordinance. For example, it's now party policy that all employers should verify their employees' immigration status through the E-Verify system. They believe a double-layer fence should span a more militarized, U.S.-Mexican border. And forget any sort of DREAM Act-like amnesty for young people who grew up in America, even if they weren't born here. Instead, Republicans simply encourage them to self-deport, which is something ICE actually already does.

Just imagine living in a Texas with all the swing-vote clout of a Florida or Wisconsin, where casting a blue vote doesn't amount to pissing into a Possum Kingdom wildfire. And imagine that the emerging demographic to court in this state instead feels marginalized by a Republican Party that treats folks who may be an uncle, a cousin, or a friend like some common criminals, unworthy of mercy and sanctuary. It reveals a kind of terminal political nearsightedness in the GOP, pandering to a contracting constituency.

Besides, it isn't like John McCain swept into Texas in 2008. The senator from Arizona won by only 946,584 votes. Even now, there are a few million Latinos in Texas who are unregistered but eligible to vote. Some 48 percent of Texas youth under 18 are Latino.

Maybe it won't be this November, or even 2016, but soon enough the GOP will have big trouble on its hands, and they're going to find it in Texas.

LiberalsAreSoNaive-you have spent quite a bit of effort on your postings.   After noting them, and the anonymous nature of your postings (did you also like your own postings too?),  I seem to recall your  postings (the detailed articles) some time ago (unchanged from back when) under a differing log in name?!?!?    I have to wonder, by your writing style and the words that you use (especially the libertard term), that all of the past posting under differing aliases might be only you as opposed to multiple people.    A degree of paranoia (expressed by your rants) that you might try to mitigate (no relation to Mittens) by trying to make people think that there are others with such views as opposed to only one troubled mind (you).

One might suggest that you would benefit from taking advantage of some of the mental health services that are available to you.  Perhaps you should take a ride down to Parkland and chat with some of the psychiatric doctors there.    Those voices in your head might go away.   Remember –lobotomy sends them home (and quiets those voices in your head)!

The blood and pain of all the victims of illegal alien criminals is partly on every dumbshit libtard who ever "advocated" for illegal aliens.  Congrats naive white-guilt libtards, you are apologists and excuse-makers for rapists and murderers, all to assuage your pathetic weak wimpy white guilt.

Wow, I just had this sudden urge to massively violate copyright laws by reproducing dozens of news article in their entirety while failing to prove anything other than I know how Google News works but then I remembered 1) I'm not the criminal type that would do such a thing and 2) the articles about all the violent crimes committed by American citizens against other American citizens in just the last month alone would crash this crappy new commenting system (and still prove nothing).

Argument ends with stabbing in Mission July 31, 2012 Ildefonso Ortiz The Monitor

MISSION — An argument turned violent Sunday, sending a middle aged man to the hospital with nine stab wounds to his back.

Mario Alberto Ramirez went before Mission Municipal judge Jonathan Wehrmeister who charged him with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon at an arraignment Tuesday afternoon.

Mission police responded to the 100 block of Conway Avenue to an assault in progress Sunday night, Police Chief Martin Garza said.

When police officers arrived, they found a middle aged man on the floor with several stab wounds.

Emergency crews rushed the man to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, Garza said. Police found another family member holding Ramirez against a wall inside the house when they arrived.

Investigators learned that Ramirez had been staying at the victim’s house, but had gotten upset after the family confronted him about his drug use and heavy drinking in the home, Garza said.

Ramirez remained at the Hidalgo County Jail late Tuesday evening on a $250,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed an immigration hold on Ramirez, which will keep him in custody until immigration charges against him are addressed.

Alleged child rapist arrested in Cullman

By Justin Graves The Cullman Times, July 19, 2011

CULLMAN — An illegal immigrant who law enforcement officials believe to be a child rapist has been brought into custody. Benito Mezhua, 30, of Cullman, was arrested by the Cullman Police Department at his residence on Brunner St. NW Friday morning. He has been charged with first-degree rape and is currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center. Mezhua has been accused of the rape of at least one minor, but investigators have reason to believe there could possibly be more victims. “Through the investigation, we have reason to believe that,” said Craig Green, assistant chief with Cullman PD. “Through the many interviews that were conducted, the investigation has led us to believe there are more victims, and if so, we encourage them to call the police.” According to law enforcement officials, Mezhua is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, but he has lived in the Cullman area for the past 11 years. The initial investigation began when an underage victim and her family filed a report with Cullman PD. The victim was immediately set up with victim services with the Child Advocacy Center. “She told her family about what happened and then the initial report was made,” Green said. “She was then set up locally and interviewed by victim services. They have people trained to work with kids who were victims of sex crimes.” After multiple interviews with the victim, Mezhua and other individuals with close ties to the suspect, Cullman PD investigator Gene Bates concluded his investigation with the arrest of Mezhua Friday morning. Mezhua was also administered a polygraph test, with his consent, prior to the arrest. Bates said Cullman PD worked closely with Martha Williams at the Cullman County district attorney’s office throughout the investigation. “We remained in contact with the DA’s office with the specifics of the case,” Bates said. “Based on the information we gathered through the investigation, we believe this is a solid case.”

Warrants Issued For Arrest Of Man In Multiple Charlotte Rapes

July 30, 2007

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities in Atlanta have a man in custody that is wanted in Charlotte in connection with several unsolved rapes that happened in Dilworth and east Charlotte.

Jose Rivera, 26, was arrested on burglary charges in Charlotte, and then sent to Atlanta where he is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in order to be deported. His deportation is now on hold.

Rivera is accused of attacking three women between April 2004 and September 2005, twice in east Charlotte and once in Dilworth. Police said he talked his way into a victim's home, attacked another outside her apartment and -- wearing only red underwear -- grabbed a jogger who was running alone. The attacker used a weapon in each case.

Authorities said that by October 2005, they had DNA evidence linking the attacks but couldn't identify the attacker. It's unclear what evidence connects Rivera to the attacks, though he was convicted of receiving a stolen vehicle last year and he would have been required to submit a DNA sample as a felon.

Rivera, who's from Honduras, has been jailed at least eight times in Mecklenburg County since 2004, according to records. He was deported in November 2006, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman said.

Rivera faces 16 charges in the three attacks, 14 of which are felonies.

Illegal immigrant admits raping, killing Ala.woman; will reveal accomplice

The illegal immigrant who confessed to raping and killing an Alabama homecoming queen in a West Knoxville hotel room made a vow Thursday to expose his accomplice.

"That is a promise I make to the family (to) give them some peace," Valentino Vasquez Miranda said via an interpreter in Knox County Criminal Court.

Miranda admitted at a hearing Thursday that he used a master key to get inside a sleeping Jennifer Lee Hampton's hotel room at the Days Inn on Lovell Road and then raped and strangled her in September 2008.

As part of a plea deal approved by Judge Bob McGee, Miranda was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after a mandatory 51-year prison term.

Hampton, 21, was in Knoxville to help train workers at a new Mama Blue's restaurant set to open here. Miranda and girlfriend Rosa Hernandez were living and working at the Days Inn as housekeepers.

Assistant District Attorney Kevin Allen told McGee that the attack on Hampton was a violent one, with guests in an adjoining room reporting a crash against her wall severe enough to shake items in their room. Hampton fought for her life, he said, evidenced by bits of Miranda's flesh under her fingernails.

"The cause of death was strangulation," he said.

Hampton's body was found a week later face-down in Melton Hill Lake near the Solway Bridge. It was Hernandez who led Knoxville Police Department Investigator Steve Still to Miranda after finding his blood-stained clothes, Allen said.

"He told Investigator Still he had a cut on his hand, and that's where all the blood came from," Allen said.

But DNA testing showed the blood belonged to Hampton, he said.

It was DNA testing, however, that led, in part, to Miranda's plea deal.

Allen said testing on Hampton's sweatpants revealed a mixture of three DNA profiles, two of which were from men. One sample matched Miranda's DNA. The other revealed an "unknown male contributor," which authorities suspect was an accomplice, he said. Allen said the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation could not rule out Hampton as a source of the third DNA sample, leaving to speculation whether there was a third suspect in the case.

The TBI compared the unknown DNA profiles to another illegal immigrant who worked with Miranda and Hernandez at the hotel but found no match.

Miranda's plea deal "requires the defendant to submit to a full debriefing, including the identification of (any) others possibly involved," Allen said.

McGee stressed Miranda's promise to serve up the identity of any accomplices as he considered whether to accept the plea deal, noting Miranda must "tell authorities what all went on and identify others involved."

"Do you understand?" McGee asked.

"Yes," Miranda answered.

At a hearing earlier this year, Allen signaled that his office might seek the death penalty in the case. But the Mexican consulate, acting on behalf of Miranda and his family, later questioned whether Miranda was 17 at the time of the slaying rather than the age of 20 as suggested by fake Social Security documents. Under Tennessee and federal law, juveniles cannot be put to death.

To avoid a battle over the issue, Knox County District Attorney General Randy Nichols declined to authorize what's known as a "death notice" to be filed against Miranda.

Spared death and a lifetime behind bars, Miranda still tarried several hours Thursday before inking his plea deal.

Hampton's mother, Cynthia Senn, said she was told Miranda did not want to face her daughter's loved ones. He relented shortly before a 1:30 p.m. deadline.

Attorney Eddie Daniel already won a civil settlement on behalf of the Hampton family from the Days Inn. The terms have been kept under wraps.http://www.knoxnews,com/news/2010/jun/18/man-admits-slaying-at-hotel/

Young rape victim undergoes HIV treatment

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Staff Reporter

A 5-year-old girl is undergoing treatment for possible HIV infection

after the man charged with raping her -- an illegal alien who was

previously deported to Mexico -- admitted he has the virus,

authorities said.

The case has re-energized some state lawmakers to push for tougher

penalties for people who commit sex crimes and knowingly expose their

victims to HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Julio Cesar Cruz Martinez, 32, of Fairhope is being held in a

segregated unit at the Baldwin County Corrections Center on charges of

first-degree rape, sexual abuse and sodomy, a jail official said

Police said Martinez has confessed to some of the acts involving the

girl and to knowing he had HIV before the crime reportedly occurred

Sept. 13.

Officers notified the family immediately after Martinez disclosed his

infection, sheriff's spokesman Lt. John Murphy said.

"The child has been taken to medical services, where she has been

tested and is being given treatment to reduce the risk of the HIV

virus," Murphy said Wednesday.

HIV is a virus that destroys the body's ability to fight off illness

and is the cause of AIDS. People infected with the virus do not have

AIDS until they develop serious symptoms, but they are capable of

transmitting the virus through sexual intercourse, according to the Web site.

Martinez has undergone HIV testing at the corrections center to

confirm whether he has the virus, Murphy said. The lab results are

pending and may not be released publicly, he said.

Deputies had questioned Martinez's identity, since he did not provide

valid identification.

Temple Black, spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,

said Wednesday that Martinez is an illegal alien who has been deported

to Mexico at least once. The department placed an administrative hold

on Martinez -- requiring him to remain jailed -- after identifying him

by photo and fingerprints, Temple said.

If convicted of the rape and other charges, Martinez would serve his

sentence in the U.S. before being returned to Mexico, he said.

Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb said this week that her

office was looking into whether Martinez should face additional

charges for knowing he had the virus when he allegedly raped the girl.

Newcomb said such crimes typically fall under assault or endangerment

statutes, and she doubted that Alabama had a statute to enhance

charges against someone who knowingly exposed another to HIV or AIDS.

Many U.S. states have laws making it a separate crime for someone to

knowingly expose someone to the virus during a criminal act. But no

such legislation exists in Alabama, a researcher with the Secretary of

State's office confirmed Wednesday.

State Sen. Bradley Byrne, R-Montrose, said he agrees Alabama needs

laws that would make it a crime for someone to knowingly expose

another to the virus while committing a crime, particularly in cases

involving children. Byrne said he plans to push for tougher laws in

the next legislative session.

State Public Health Officer Don Williamson said Alabama needs tougher

laws to criminalize known HIV exposure, but lawmakers should be

careful not to dissuade people from getting tested for the disease.

"The known exposure of another party by somebody who is HIV infected,

without warning them or taking precautions, is immoral and

reprehensible. We need to figure a way to deal with that," Williamson

Lawmakers should be careful to create rehabilitative options for drug

addicts and others at high risk to HIV infection, so that get-tough

laws don't discourage them from getting tested, he said.

"For some people, ignorance of the law is an excuse," Williamson said.

"If they never find out they are infected then they can't be charged

with knowingly exposing somebody."

Illegal Immigrant accused of rape in Franklin County

Nov 06, 2010

RED BAY, AL (WAFF)- An illegal immigrant is accused of rape in Franklin County.

Red Bay police arrested Francisco Toto Mejia on Monday. Police said he attacked a woman living in his apartment community.

Investigators said he raped the woman in August, but she was too afraid to come forward.

Mejia is in the Franklin County jail on $20,000 dollars bond.

@MisterMean, as a person with Mental Health Issues, I find your comment highly offensive. There isn't anything I did to cause my MHI, it happened when I least expected it. MHIs are hereditary, so I pray someone in your family doesn't ever get this illness. It can be debilitating and consuming, to where you ruminate on certain past events, having nightmares and fighting in your sleep.

@MisterMean You idiot. The Observer bans people from commenting but you can just change your "name"

But nice typical liberalism as a mental disease response from you.

Thanks for the good laugh! seeing all the 5 dozen or so articles you took the time to post sure brought a good chuckle this morning! better than the comic section for sure, although similar in its origin.

keep up the good work, it's always great to have a good, strong laugh!

So I'm sure you will be moving to one of Dallas' lovely Mexican neighborhoods as soon as possible, right, my naive white-guilt libtard?

Well now @timetomoveon (or is it really @LiberalsAreSoNaive) take a few deep breaths and calm yourself.   Perhaps a few electo shock treatments would be in order to clear out those thoughts-fill the bath tub up with waster-get in and toss in the electic toaster.  There you go all cured!

@LiberalsAreSoNaive  Wow Chucklenuts, you know how to use the search option. Things are looking up. Maybe now you can find your dick.

mavdog topcommenter

interesting. apparently your position is that for anyone to comment about mexican-americans, they must live in a "mexican neighborhood".

so, do you live in a "white-guilt libtard" neighborhood? no? than you can't you comment about "white-guilt libtard", can you?

bwahahaha. too funny!

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz  @James080 Issac missed Florida and is going to hit New Orleans head-on. Please enlighten us as to what exactly the residents of New Orleans did to antagonize GOD and bring a hurricane down on their home?

I assumed that Rush was your hero (as most conservatives hold him to be).  The takeoff of his last name is for his Viagra bust when he was coming back from Dominican Republic with a bunch of male Clear Channel Employees.   Wonder why he needed the Viagra when there were no women in his party?

As for the Koch Sucker-guess who is spending $$$ to buy the elections like some 3rd world dictatorship?  Yep a conservative Republican!

@timetomoveon Try picking up a dictionary and learn a new word.  That is assuming that you are capable of learning which your posts seem to indicate that you can not.  You can't form a decent response so you resort to slurs against those who you disagree with.  White trash is what you must be.

@MisterMean Sorry it was hard to understand what you said while you had Anderson Cooper in your mouth. What was that?

@timetomoveon-my overlords?!?!?!?!?  I am not a Koch-sucker like you nor do I kneel at the alter of Rush Limpballs or Glen Beck like you probably do.   You are a blatherskite.  Your animus is demented by the hate of the GOP that you share.   Your nugatory responses are tiring and are ineffectual.

@MisterMean  @timetomoveon And end up like a  brain dead liberal like yourself? No thanks! Just keep crowing about diversity while you do what your overlords tell you to do.

really, too much information about your personal activities.

@GuitarPlayer My dick is easy to find.  I'm pretty sure

Ed Dravecky's isn't, though, seeing how it is covered up by  gigantically disgusting floppy folds of fatass flab that hang down over his dick.

@GuitarPlayer  @timetomoveon It is awesome how your insults about mommies and penises are so stupid and lame and inaccurate, while my insult of "naive white-guilt libtard" is the only insult I'll ever need for you, because it is accurate and obviously hits you too close to home.  Your hysterical libtard "muh dik" responses tell me I'm doing something right.  Naive white-guilt libtard.

@GodDoesNotExist @TheCredibleHulk @LiberalsAreSoNaive, I live in a Dallas Suburb where the population is mostly Hispanic / Mexican American. Whether they're all documented, I can't answer that. I have absolutely no problems with my neighbors. Yes, there is a language barrier, so I make sure I have someone to translate for me. Everyone is mentioning illegals molesting, murdering, and raping. They aren't the only one's committing these heinous crimes. Have you checked out who your neighbor is? Maybe you should! Keep in mind though, that those are only the one's who are registered. What about those that aren't registered in their city. What I find amusing is if any of you know what race / ethnicity each person is on this forum?

just when exactly did you stop beating your wife and kicking you dog?

what, no defense to your obtuse logic? apparently the emporer has no clothes.

gee, one would think that your deep insight would allow for some explanation. anything, but alas it seems that your mind is but a big bag of nothing.

@mavdog Continue with your naive white-guilt libtardism, and every neighborhood will be a Mexican neighborhood in about 20 years.
