We Now Know Jason Garrett is Not on Facebook. When Does the Season Start Again?

Categories: Sports

At some point last week, the Dallas Cowboys surpassed five million "likes" on Facebook. They're the first NFL franchise to hit the mark, which I suppose is worthy of a Tweet, or maybe a Facebook post.

But during Garrett's daily press conference on Friday, Cowboys beat writers, apparently out of vapid football-related questions, asked head coach Jason Garrett how he felt about the team's momentous achievement.

"I have no idea what you just said,'' Garrett responded, according to the Morning News. "I don't know what lights on a Facebook page means."

The entire press conference actually contained some interesting stretches, specifically when Garrett spoke candidly about Dez Bryant's conditioning. The troubled young receiver has thought in years past that his chiseled physique and near-complete lack of body fat meant he was "in shape." But in shape for a wide receiver, Garrett stressed, means one thing only: You can run all day. Bryant, the coach seemed to indicate, is starting to get that.

Interesting stuff, followed by a whole lot of awkwardness when the questions turned to Facebook. Garrett, we learned, thought The Social Network was outstanding. And no, his avoidance of Facebook is not because he went to Princeton and Mark Zuckerburg went to Harvard. But yes, someone actually asked him about that.

All of which leads us to wonder: When, for the love of God, does these guys start playing games? Oh yeah. One week.

The Cowboys could go 10-6 or 6-10, depending on injuries and how well/poorly they play.  If they make the playoffs, maybe they get lucky, catch lightning in a bottle, and advance to the Super Bowl.

But you could say the same thing about seven or eight other teams in the NFC.

for Facebook, it's not about being excellent today. it's about being excellent everyday and continuing to improve everyday.

so, you engage in meta-vapidity with this story.   Such an improvement.

One month. Preseason football does not count. Everyone who doesn't barely make payments on a boat and recycle their Antonio Bryant jerset as a Dez jersey knows that.

Is there anything more useless than a Jason Garrett press conference? The sports media should be ashamed the way they fawn over him and the team but everybody wants to go to Jerry's parties and ride on his bus. There isn't one objective reporter covering this team.

Yawn. We're all about baseball now.

@ChrisYu and improving takes a process, and a process is being put in place to make sure that process works

@MushMouth1 You're right, they never do. All the beat reporters issue ass-kissing softballs, and the radio guys talk big until they have Jerruh or Jason on and then they softball too. Training cap coverage is a giant circle jerk.

Amen - For many it's just a guy version of real housewives

What's Facebook got to do with anything anyway?

@ScottsMerkin Make sure that process works in all three phases of social media. Three phases. Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus. All three phases. Improve the process to make the Facebook phase improve. Process. Facebook. Improve.

 @Scruffygeist

it's a long season and their record is 0-0. Let's wait on the ball kicking until we see what this thing is doing. How hard of questioning do you want them to do when they're basically playing two-below out there?

Doesn't  matter. This year's Series win is pre-ordained.

@GuySports If youve given up after yesterday, well we dont need you as a bandwagon fan anyways

@GuySports yes, all very true and actual however you clearly stated that you were all about baseball until yesterday.  Why give up so easily.  Clearly this team has problems but with all the problems it has, its still in 1st place in the west and just won 4 of the last 5

@ScottsMerkin Hamilton looks lost. On a scale from 1 to 10 on pitch selection I would give Olt after three whole games a 7.5 and Hamilton a 2.5. Young is a singles hitter with a low OBP. Seriously, Gentry should be getting twice the playing time as Young. Wash rests half of infield on the same day? Top of the ninth, zero out tie game and you call a squeeze with the meat of your order up? That call speaks loudly about the direction this team is headed over the next month against Det, Yank, Orange Bird, Jay/Ray.
