Just When You Thought The Dust Had Settled, Susan G. Komen President, CEO Step Aside

A few months back, the Susan G. Komen For the Cure, the Dallas-based, Nancy Brinker-founded organization that has single-handedly made breast cancer a cause celeb, thrust itself squarely in the middle of the abortion debate when it announced plans to cut funding from Planned Parenthood. Brinker walked the decision back, but the damage was done, and the rest of us turned our attention to more important matters, like Chick-fil-a.

Apparently not wanting to cede the spotlight completely, the Komen Foundation announced last night "a new period of transition as it positions itself for the future of its ongoing global mission to end breast cancer." Or, if you prefer, a massive leadership shakeup.

President Liz Thompson is out. Brinker is stepping aside as CEO to focus on other aspects of the organization. A couple of board member, Brenda Lauderback and Linda Law, are leaving as well.

No mention of the Planned Parenthood flap in the group's release, of course, just that Thompson, who joined Komen in 2008, "is confident in the infrastructure and leadership of the organization that she built during her tenure at Komen," and decided its time to move on.

As for Brinker: "I was asked by the Board in 2009 to assume the CEO role," she said. "Three years into that role, and 32 years after my promise to my sister to end breast cancer, I want now to focus on Susan G. Komen's global mission and raising resources to bring our promise to women all around the world."

Brinker is clearly the victim of botched plastic surgery.

"Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya, bie bie"  This whole concept has long struck me as utterly absurd, patronizing, and narcissistic.  And Nancy Brinker is a sucker for sycophants.  .

All those contributions spent on hair and makeup, and she still looks like Cruella DeVille.

This is a rearranging-the-deckchairs-on-the-Titanic moment. It's too little too late, and nobody should be fooled by Nancy Brinker's stepping down as CEO. She is Susan G. Komen's sister, as long as she has any role in the organization, the titular CEO will simply be taking marching orders from her, and no person with ambitions to be a real CEO will want the job. Brinker is either still in denial about the damage done to the Komen brand by the Planned Parenthood incident, or has no real idea about how to undo the damage, based on the actions taken thus far.

The one change in behavior that I have adopted after watching this trainwreck unfold is that every time a censorious nitwit says something rude about PP this election cycle I will send money to them.

I manged a BMW dealership for over 15 years- BMW along with the dealer base supported the Komen foundation with THE DRIVE FOR THE CURE- raising millions of dollars- Nancy Brinker , since she lives in Dallas and the dealership I managed was in Dallas came in on several occasions- This was is one of the rudest, arrogant, jerk - I have met in conjuction with this event- She talked down to the very people busting there butt to raise money for this wonderful cause- Whats odd is she has no reason to be arrogant ither than she has a rich husband- She is obviously not well educated and I assure you has issues. It is a good thing she is gone- 10 years ago I said this would happen- I felt compelled to share this about this lady- I hope they recover from the disaster this women has created with her ignorance-

Sounds like they are going the Mary Kay route. Only 25% of Mary Kay consultants are in the US. The rest are now, in other countries. Screwing poor women out of their money and laughing all the way to the bank.

Since Komen is a money making scheme, it won't be hard to predict which conservative Catholic countries will be targeted and duped for a money hungry plot, on Komen's behalf.

Why did Lauderback and Law resign?  Was it in protest of the shakeup or because they advocated the policy that caused their organization so much harm?  SOunds like something other than term expiration.

@rufuslevin You're a horrible person, rufuslevin, and that's OK, as I expect to run across clueless idiots such as yourself on forums like this. Your biggest sin, though, is that you aren't the slightest bit funny.
