Update at 12:34 p.m.: Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Vilma Esperanza Alvarado.

Original post: Early Sunday afternoon, about 1:15 p.m., officers were called to an empty warehouse parking lot at 7301 Ambassador Row, just off Stemmons, where they discovered the body of a Hispanic woman who had been beaten and stabbed repeatedly. Police don't have a name or age, just the tattoos and car keys you see above. The heart is on the upper right leg just above the knee. The second is on her lower right calf. A third, not pictured, is of a Playboy bunny with the name "Marie" and is just below her right shoulder.

Anyone with information about the murder or the identity of the victim should call Detective Ahearn at 214-671-3682 or the Dallas Police Homicide Unit at 214-671-3661 or 214-671-3624.

How do they know she was Hispanic if they don't know who she is?

"The terms "Hispanic" or "Latino" refer to persons who trace their origin or descent to Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Spanish speaking Central and South America countries, and other Spanish cultures. Origin can be considered as the heritage, nationality group, lineage, or country of the person or the person's parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States. People who identify their origin as Hispanic or Latino may be of any race."[36]

@movinondown Oh jeseus christ, can you pick another blog entry to get up on your high horse about this.  Lets find out who she is and give her the proper respect she and her family deserve.

@ScottsMerkin I'm just curious because I was told I need to learn the difference between race and ethnicity by a commentator on here.. so I am trying. But I am confused because how can we know she traced her origin to Mexico, PR, Cuba etc...?

@ScottsMerkin Well, I sort of wondered this, too. If she's so mutilated that they need to ID her with tattoos, how can they tell she's Hispanic? Skin tone alone? Are they sure she's not Indonesian, or perhaps part African-American and part white? "Hispanic" is a nebulous category (particularly considering her facial features are apparently distorted); it doesn't take an especially high horse to see that.
