Dallas Has Country's 34th Worst Drivers, Which is Ridiculous. We Drive Much Worse Than That.

dallasTraffic.jpg
Dallas drivers are terrible, but they're not as terrible as they could be, Allstate's data shows.
Every year, Allstate crunches its claims data from the country's 200 largest municipalities, does a little arithmetic, then releases a ranked list showing which cities have the best drivers and, by extension, which have the worse. The insurance company just released its report for 2012, and the answer to your burning question is yes, Sioux Falls is still the nation's safest place to drive.

Dallas? As you'd expect, not so much. The city, for the second year in a row, came in at No. 167. Drivers here -- at least those with Allstate insurance policies -- are 32.8 percent more likely to get in a wreck than your average U.S. driver. The typical amount of time between accidents is 7.5 years.

But looking at it another way, Dallas actually does relatively well. Of cities with more than a million people, it's the sixth safest. Flipping the list on its head, Dallas has the 34th worst drivers in the country, which flies in the face of everything anybody has ever said about Dallas traffic, not to mention that time last month I was rear-ended and spun into a concrete wall on the Mixmaster.

I have to say, Dallas, you can do better. Remember how everything's bigger in Texas? That goes for our cowboy hats and our Cowboys stadiums, and it should also go for our car wrecks. Washington, D.C., of all places, the epitome of everything that Texas is not, is 33 slots ahead of us, which is frankly embarrassing. So let's start driving a little more like Texans and see if we can't top those liberal Washington elites by the time next year's list rolls around. Just make sure to drive very carefully around bikes.

Comments keep mentioning the traffic. It is not the traffic; it is the group of drivers and pedestrians we have. I do not think many of them would last a month in NY or LA. Take your pick: pedestrian walking against light, facing away from oncoming traffic looking at phone or almost reflexive action to call someone, anyone, as you exit a parking garage or listening to iPhone music with those ubiquitous white plugs in BOTH ears while weaving in and out of traffic. Or are there any drivers on the road after 1 AM on Fri/Sat nights besides police that do not exceed the legal alcohol limit? I do not know anything about illegal aliens. All the people driving huge and powerful vehicles while not paying attention look like me.

I just read where a 100-year old driver backed up onto a sidewalk in front of an elementary school in LA and mowed down eleven children.  Some are in critical condition.

I'm amazed that more people aren't run over on the sidewalk by careless drivers flying out of parking garages downtown.

The thing about LA traffic is that there is nowhere else to go.  At least in Dallas we can bail to NW Hwy or Royal or Walnut Hill, or in Grapevine we can take the back roads ( not going to tell you MFers how to get there) but in LA one is trapped by mountains and ocean and cannot get away.  Rememeber LA Story?  It could be worse homies.

We have five more years of pain before the next round of improvements.  Enjoy!

Eric Nicholson is such a naive white-guilt libtard that he can't figure out the connection between this issue and the fact that Dallas is getting swamped by illegal aliens from Mexico.  On the other hand, when the unlicensed and uninsured illegals drive away from the many accidents they cause, which often go unreported, it might help keep the citizens' auto insurance rates down.

When I use to take Central, I'd see fender benders on the side of the road almost every day. Now on Tollway, every impatient BMW or Maserati wants to ride my ass or cut me off just to slam on their breaks. We all could use a little refresher on "How to Drive in Traffic".

I submit that Dallas traffic is worse than LA traffic.

I love driving in Dallas, there is no controlling authority.

Which is why its more expensive to insure your car if you live in Dallas county or work in Dallas county.  Im sure the shitty design of the freeways and interchanges contributes to this as well as all female drivers.

@Myrna.Minkoff-Katz Im nearly ran over twice a week, in the parking garage, plus the countless times Ive had to stop in a crosswalk to avoid being hit by the idiot not paying attention turning.

@EricNicholsonSucks sorry bro, havent been hit by an illegal in years here in Dallas,  just good ole white utopia not giving a shit about anyone else

@monstruss It is most definitely not worse than LA traffic. People pretty much live in their cars there. An hour commute one way is standard, and generally people aren't riding your ass or trying to switch lanes to get 1 car ahead like they do in Dallas.

@monstruss no, its not, I promise.  Try to drive from LAX to I15 takes 2 hrs anytime during the day.  And their most of their HOV lanes are 3+ and full.  I did find that the right lane flows more steady than left lane however on their major freeways

@ScottsMerkin True.  You're better off jaywalking against a red light if the coast is clear than crossing on green with texting drivers paying no attention at all running their reds.

@ScottsMerkin You haven't been hit by an illegal in HOW MANY YEARS?  I don't think you realize it, but you helped me prove my point.  THANK YOU

@CelebrateDivershitty  @EricNicholsonSucks go research the stats and come back to me.  You can do records search/inquiry to see how many vehicles have been impounded for failure to provide proof of insurance,  then tie that back to the owner.  As for me in 1998 i was rear ended by 19yo white female.  She asked not to call the cops so we could just exchange insurance.  I complied only to call 10 minutes after she drove off and found that her insurance was cancelled due to non payment 2 months previously.  In 2000 I was cut off an wrecked by a 40 yo white male in a truck causing a major wreck on 35.  At first i was told to be at fault but after he sued me and lost I counter sued his insurance only to find out he had provided fake insurance cards to the cops.  In 2004 in Plano, my gf was t-boned by a 45 yo white female.  No insurance and no DL.  2007, rear ended at a stoplight in Euless, 22 yo white female (on her cellphone)  gave me false insurance information, but did give me a # to call.  It was her dads #, luckily he paid to fix my car.  6 months ago, downtown dallas makin left got hit in the rear qtr panel.  Hispanic male 38 y.o fully insured even called to have the cops come out, although they refused.

so there you go, my full accident history since 1998

@ScottsMerkin  @EricNicholsonSucks Give me the hard numbers.  How many wrecks have you been in and/or witnessed over the years?  How many of the drivers at fault were whites with insurance?  How many of the drivers were whites without insurance?  How many were of another race?  How many were illegal aliens?  QUIT BEING SO VAGUE.

ScottsMerkin

@EricNicholsonSucks no, I didnt prove any of your point.  Ive been hit or witness to many wrecks over the years, and most of the time its the White guy who caused the wreck that doesnt have insurance.
