Seriously, Dez Bryant? You Were Arrested For Slapping Your Own Mother?

When the Cowboys drafted Dez Bryant a couple of years back, I ignored all the hand-wringing over supposed character issues. He's young, I thought. Everybody does stupid stuff when they're young. Give him a massive spotlight and several million dollars a year and he'll grow out of it. But last night we learned he was arrested and a few moments ago, we learned exactly why from WFAA's Rebecca Lopez, who broke the story:

Desoto police say Dez bryant assaulted his mother. Slapped her across the face and pulled her hair.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but slapping your own mother? That's low.

What I heard on the radio the day it was reported but haven't heard since is that it started as an argument between Dez and his half brother, somehow his mom got thrown into it... Am I sticking up for him? Not really, but there's no telling what was said or what this is really all about. What I know for a fact is that brothers fight, it happens, and 75% of the time half brothers aren't even that close. And more times than not mothers always stick by the side of their youngest and it usually pisses off the oldest. This could have easily been about a family member saying that he "owes" them this or that, should be obligated to "buy" them this and that, "why you acting broke?" "You're a bitch ass dude who owes money all over town". Like I said, there's no telling what was said between those guys but mom definitely sided with the half brother and jumped in.

Dez has a drug addict mom. He confronted her and all hell broke loose. Wait for the rest of the story to come out. South of I-30 this ain't new.
