Kidd Kraddick Thinks Date Rape Victims Are Liars. Advocates Think Kidd Kraddick is an Ignorant Douchebag.

Kidd-Kraddick.jpg
The real tragedy of date rape is that it makes it harder for guys like Kidd Kraddick to get laid.

Gamma-hydroxybutyrate, or GHB, is a powerful sedative used in Europe for decades as a sleep aid and anesthetic during childbirth before it became widely used as a convenient and powerful date rape aid.

That use has become disconcertingly common, at least according to date rate victims, their advocates, state and local law enforcement agencies, and U.S. Department of Justice.

Kidd Kraddick, however, is not so sure. During his show Monday morning, the DFW-based radio personality spent several minutes offering expert testimony on the "new epidemic that's sweeping America: It's the 'Women who say they've been roofied' epidemic."

"Hah-hah," chortled his sidekick, Big Al.

"You're hearing it a lot now," Kraddick continued. "Kelly, how many timed have you been roofied?"

"Seventeen," said Kelly, his female sidekick.

Kraddick marveled at the number and offered an alternative explanation: "A lot of times women get really drunk and are like 'Ah! I got roofied!'"

Another woman in the studio related her own recent roofie experience, her first. She was on vacation, only had a couple of drinks, then suddenly became very ill. She took a cab home and sat with her roommate in the bathroom for several hours, vomiting.

"That's a failed roofie. If you remember everything, that's a bad roofie," Kraddick told her, finally seeming to get to his real area of expertise. Roofies don't make you violently ill, he told her. "I'm not putting you on trial for the roofie thing, I'm just asking. ... I mean, the point of a roofie is for a guy to take advantage of a girl."

That may happen sometimes, Kraddick conceded, but not very often.

"It is a very dangerous drug and it is a felony to drop it in someone's drink, but you talk to girl's your age and there's just a whole army of guys running around just roofie-ing girls. They're not getting drunk on their own, getting sick, they're getting roofed left and right."

"Every girl has a roofie story," Big Al agreed.

The real tragedy, the real victims, if you will, are the law-abiding males out there just looking for a good time.

"Here's why I get mad about it," Kraddick said. "It's because normal guys are suspect. ... It is hard enough for guys to meet girls without them throwing around these stories, and every strange guy is a candidate to drop something in your drink. It doesn't happen very often at all. Almost never."

Then, Kraddick's coup de grace: "I would love to have a built in excuse every time I got so wasted I don't remember anything."

I didn't hear the original broadcast -- how Kraddick escaped my presets is a mystery never to be solved -- but the Dallas Area Rape Crisis center did. They were not amused, as they made clear in an email to supporters:

The discussion on Kidd Craddick this morning regarding "roofies" was terribly irresponsible, disturbing, contributes to rape myths and the culture in which we don't believe victims, andadds to the barriers victims face regarding reporting being drugged and reporting sexual assault.Kidd and his crew spout about how community involved and supportive and helpful they are (Kidd's Kids, etc.) and then this kind of ignorant information is put out for the community to hear. Having a daughter in college, Kidd should do his homework on this. This happens often, especially on college campuses. "An excuse for a one night stand." "Regrettable mistakes." "Hard enough for guys to meet girls," According to a study by the National Institute of Justice, out of 20 million women who have been raped in the United States, nearly 3 million have experienced drug-facilitated rape. Only 16 per cent of rapes were reported to law enforcement because of myths as discussed onthe Kidd Kraddick in the Morningradio program.

They encourage anyone who is so inclined to call the Kidd Kraddick show (1-800-543-3548) or visit his Facebook page to let their feelings be known. Also, just in case you missed it or want to hear it again, you can check out Kraddick's podcast. Just jump to about the 24:45 mark.

unfortunately it does happen, i was accused of date rape. i had met a girl in a bar, we had  a few too many drinks and her friends knew me. we were all having a good time. i asked the girl if she was seeing anyone,  she told me the night we met that she didnt have a boyfriend and told her friends that she was going home with me. well the morning after i found out  that she did have a boyfriend and i actually knew him. realizing that she could lose her boyfriend and her reputation, she quickly came up with a story that i had drugged her and called the cops on me. i had to hire an attorney, take a polygraph which i passed. when the detectives called her to tell her that,  and that her story had a bunch of holes in it, she hung up on them and never returned their phone calls. even her friends that were with her that night testified against her. I later found out from an ex friend of hers that she had lied to cover her ass for getting drunk and doing something stupid. i cost me over 10k to clear my name, but she keeps playing the victim...

they are liars aided by the Gloria Allreads of this world (obammamas favorite lawyer)

Met Kid Doofus once at a Village Country Club pool party decades ago. What a fratboy douche! I am not the least bit surprised that this geebo would say something as callous and asinine as his comments on rape. And he has the nerve to masquerade as a 'family man?'

I never realized he was a Republican until this news corroborated it.

I've never been roofied.  I have been date-raped, and had a guy hold a gun to my head.  I have a 26-year-old daughter who has been roofied, and I've listened and observed long enough to figure out that young women in Dallas routinely learn to keep an eye on their drinks.  They watch people pour, and they know people who have been charged w/DUI because of loss of motor coordination, without lab results.  I know women  who have were roofied on Greenville Avenue, and one thirty-year-old who lost the past two days of her life that way.  Local bar, BTW.  That makes two decades of it here, at least.

I also know that it is NOT routine to test for RHP, etc. when a female shows up complaining of such symptoms as extreme loss of motor coordination, and what some would claim is mild nausea.  It's time to keep much better statistics on these claims, and to make testing readily available.  TABC?  Get ready.  Maybe we could pass a Kid Kraddick law.  He could redeem himself by sponsoring it.   I am sure there are research protocols by which we could filter out the stories of women who were really begging for it to start with, then felt the need to cover up having had (gasp) sex.  Probably eliminate at least one.

OTOH, if Kid Kraddick is still online/on the air claiming that this doesn't happen, that women are hysterical or covering up activity that he purports they are actually cruising for, maybe it's time for him to have his fat salary taken away.  Maybe he should be shown the door.   Unless we want to keep supporting the same kinds of people who would publicly announce that the theatre victims in Aurora got what they deserved somehow.

I would listen to the podcast, but then I would be guilty of a crime more heinous than rape, giving Kidd Kraddick relevance in society.

The bottom like here is that if you're out and about and you see this guy, you're in an area where date rape happens all the time and you should leave. Any club or restaurant he walks into instantly becomes a rape studio. It's either that, or you can't *give* away radio time these days and it's a publicity stunt.

Whether people agree or disagree with what Kidd said, one silver lining about all this is that it is at least fostering a discussion and raising awareness that drug rape is a very real problem. Awareness is the first step, but an early startup named DrinkSavvy (www.facebook.com/SavvyTechnology) is developing products to actually prevent drug rape. Essentially, the products will look and function just like regular cups, glasses, straws, stirrers, and swizzle sticks, except that if a rape drug is slipped into your drink, they will immediately provide a visible color change, even in low lit areas, warning you to throw your drink out before you consume the drug. Hopefully one day, drug rape will be a thing of the past.

Moron. Yeah because rapists and other criminals are all geniuses smart enough to figure out the logistics, rather than acting on impulse. Clearly you are not a man, because you are certainly thinking like a woman.

here is a thought...have you ever seen how women get it both ways? they get roofied-which is anathema- and can yell i was raped. or they can get drunk and get laid and claim they got raped. (either way the boy loses- rightfully if he raped her and wrongfully is they had sex) it is such a tough time to be a man today. womens rights screw up the whole dating picture. do you buy her a drink or should she buy yours. should you engage her in conversation or let her. do you hold the door or not? gentlemen conduct is one thing, being emasculated is another.

"entertainment" and "Kidd Kraddick" do not belong in the same sentence.

Married men can and do rape their wives.

cp

Why worry that we are approaching that stage? How about "yes means permission"? Meaning that, if a man does not hear the word "yes" he does not engage. No game-playing with the word "no", no uncertainty about what the woman *really* wants. Seems simple to me.

Yep, I read that memo in my monthly NOW newsletter and you missed one thing: the part about women trying to eradicate men from the planet by using rape as the "gateway". I thought that was pretty prescient and wondered why you didn't include it in your treatise.

wow, girls do get roofied. You have to be cautious of your drinks, and your friends. That's why I never ever go out without a guy. I guess I will no longer be a listener because this is not a typical thing to happen to girls.

Wes Scott

Pamela, I agree with you 100%. No real man needs to drug a woman or rape her. Doing so is a classless act that says the guy cannot get laid any other way. My dad once told me that he would come to my aid for anything I ever did except for raping a girl. He said that it is too easy for a guy to find a willing partner, and that there is never a need to rape somebody. That is truer today than ever before. Some of these guys are obviously just losers who probably could not get laid even if they did get a woman drunk and drugged.

Wes Scott
Wes Scott

Katana, please forgive my misspelling of your name. When I look back on that event in my life I must say it felt like Truelove!

Wes Scott
Wes Scott

Kataka, you are absolutely correct! Once, a group of women conspired to slip Viagra into my drink and then proceeded to rape me repeatedly. I felt helpless and ashamed to have been used and abused that way. In fact, I was so ashamed that I did not report it. Stupidly, I later went back to where those women were and lo and behold they did it to me again. One of these days I am going to learn not to go there!

There have been studies done that have found that less than 5% of women complaining of being roofied actually had any trace of sedative in their systems. What he says is perfectly true.  So let's all stop pretending to be outraged.

Listened to this guy for a long time, but his comments are more for ratings than anything else... this dude is a moron who doesn't have enough listeners time for him to get 97.1 EAGLED like so many years ago...... those old enough will understand what I mean.

Roberta Sandolval

If women would stop crying "rape!" every time they regretted getting drunk and hooking up, then maybe actual rape victims would have an easier time finding justice. Fact is, no one believes it anymore.  I have never once in my life seen or ever heard of a guy using a date rape drug, and I've spent plenty of time in bars.  Couple this with the fact that every other time a female friend gets wasted she says she was roofied, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that most women who claim to have been roofied are just using it as an excuse for getting wasted.

Roberta Sandolval
Roberta Sandolval

Were you actually raped or did you falsely accuse someone you regretted having consensual sex with?

Roberta Sandolval
Roberta Sandolval

Were you not paying attention? Rape used to mean rape.  Now, thanks to feminist rape industrialists, rape means any sexual experience that a woman feels bad about after the fact. Feminists have cheapened the word 'rape' by broadening its definition into infinity.  As such, no one takes the word seriously anymore.

Great.  No complaints about making these kinds of products available.  How's about let's test for the drug, and prosecute offenders, as well?  How's about let's hold bar owners/employees accountable at least to the same degree as we do for patrons who are over-served?  We have to be careful about fostering the war just so we can sell the armaments.  Heaven knows, we are conditioned to look at problems as business opportunities.

SunAtNight

Gross.  Your inability to ascertain how to rightfully treat/ pick up women has nothing to do with the fact that rape happens to women.  Yeah, women get it both ways and its SOO rough to be a man.  You're truly disgusting and your comment makes my skin crawl.
